That brought back my painful memory when playing the Extreme difficulty for the only time. I discovered the flash back when I have one left, which is the one on the lower floor of the connecting bridge. I shot every other ones and made every codec calls possible and still not finding it, and then I thought it was just a glitch or something and began coming in and out of the area thinking that the sensor would be off, but instead triggered the flash back showing me where the last one was, and just to realize I cannot shot it from wherever I stand (you can actually, just read on). Then I treated the game like a ground breaking MGSV open world and went all the way to the roof of Struct E, thinking that I can snipe it from there, only to my disappointment that the control unit wasn't even showing up. At that point, which was 20 years ago when there wasn't any TH-cam videos or Reddit telling you what to do, and that online gaming advice was much less common than the present day, I basically just keep calling the codec team again, until I finally received and also noticed the Colonel or Snake telling me that I can tip-toe Raiden by pressing R2 and L2 at the same time and shot that last damn thing out... I think that is the only occasion in the entire game that mandates you to use that tip-toe control and it was easy to overlook that radio call thinking that you already know all the controls. There's many more things that they did differently only in Extreme, the other example I still remember was the bomb location in the bottom of Struct A where they move it to somewhere you cannot see without getting into first person view. Alas, however, that my Extreme adventure stopped at the MG RAYs...
@@traviscole4121 Well yes, never managed to get through the RAYs after a dozen of tries. Not that I don't have the time, I just don't have the skills to dodge all the attacks and I believe I am already running low if not running out of rations by that point. Remember also that I was playing in the PS2 era when you don't have all these video guides on exploiting the programming of the game (such as how you make one of the RAYs pause from attacking you). I basically have to work out each and every challenge thrown at me all alone, and even if I get through the MGs, I believe the second torture by Solidus would really be the toughest hurdle for me...... Anyway, I just accept that I am not the material for Big Boss and I never tried to do the BBE (or equivalent in the future games) difficulty anymore on MGS
I'm pretty sure you're gonna need that sniper rifle. You can use the SOCOM for everything except the control unit on top of the Cypher flying above (if I remember correctly!).
Hey you ever done the mgs 2 door glitch to get out of the big shell VR missions as ninja Raiden? I've tried it but get stuck half of the time, for some reason none of the doors have level locks once you get out of the mission area.
Have you tried the method where you trigger a caution, go in another area, then come back and do the punch door glitch? I'm not sure if it will help or not, I've only watched videos of this glitch but haven't ever done it myself. The only ones I've tried is where you can get through the door and explore the shell 1-2 connecting bridge (which should've been destroyed after the Harrier boss battle), and the one in Arsenal Gear where you can advance to the next area without having to fight the Tengu.
@@SomeGuy_Somewhere Well I see what you mean about getting stuck at the doors. I decided to try the glitch myself, but couldn't get Raiden to move once I did it. So I must've remembered it wrong and the triggering the caution thing was just to get Raiden unstuck, not to make the doors open. Once I did that Raiden could move and I was able to go explore the Big Shell. Then the same thing happened to me once I tried to go to certain areas. Raiden would be stuck running behind the locked door at the heliport, DE connecting bridge, and if I tried to go back into the Transformer Room. Bummer. It's just like the door glitch that lets you check out the Shell 1-2 connecting bridge, where you'll also get stuck if you try to go back through the Parcel Room door. Still a really fun glitch though. I had a blast running around as ninja Raiden and having him turn into a statue if I tried to use a grenade! Haha! If you haven't done so already, I recommend going to Shell 1 Core B1 (hostage room), the guards there are so weird. Their vision is horrible and when they do finally spot you, they'll just go run in the corner at the bottom of the stairs. One guy got stuck IN the stairs (not sure how that happened), and if I kicked him he'd fly through the wall, but when he came back he'd just be stuck in the stairs again. I wanted to play around with them more, but even though the timer doesn't show on screen, it's apparently still there and I ran out of time!

This game I beat it so many times i inow bu heart, i came from school one day and beat in one day....Nobody spotted me and headshots only i was 12....I got all dogtags, and was goong for the 0 game overs....But vamp its complicated that MF...i see these videos and i laugh how people are looking for this....
