  • The “River of no return : Kousika”
Coimbatore is one of the most important cities and people around the world think it is a flourishing place with important streams running around it but that one lost river’s attention isn't drawn. It's a neglected issue. When it comes to Coimbatore , most of the people know only rivers like siruvani , noyyal , bhavani but not an formerly stream that has been running fresh back thirty years .Addressing this neglect is yet to be done. Even during water shortages, even in droughts, the government was informed about the urgency of the situation in the north of Kovai. In this context, my team and I began researching about the great river Kousika. Then, we learned about environmental problems in Kovai, such as water scarcity. What is the reason for this situation? We don't know, or we don't care. We started investigating to find the origin of this river. To see the start of this river, we journeyed to the foothills of the Kurudi Malai, beginning from the dense forests of the Kattu bannari Amman Temple. The journey of 52kms starting from the kurudi hills that gets connected with noyyal in Mangalam, tirupur which again travels towards kaveri river and ends up getting added up towards the ocean. Our research of bringing a social issue like this to the world has become easier when we found of the man behind kousika neerkarangal who has been working to trace this lost river for the last thirty years single-handedly till 2017. After that A crew was formed by him and is running successfully joining hands with the government and with the help of funds from CSR partners and other. Now it is a responsibility of every individual to protect the river else we will be in a situation where travelling to some other country for water in future.
