    Great demo. You showed the complete gammett of tones this amp will do. Thanks for posting the video.👍🏻👍🏻

    One of these with a Zoom, Boss, or Digitech effects processor and it sounds as good as a JCM900 50w Hi Gain Master Volume. 80s hair guitar, Dio, Dokken, Ozzy, or Maiden, and it sounds unbelievably killer. A ton of distortion, some slapback delay, and some reverb is the basic Metal recipe. Chorus, flanger, etc can be added as necessary. That AVT50H was so good that if I could only ever have one amp for the rest of my guitar playing existence, I would be happy with it.

      I think I agree with you, I love this range, I was using this head loads to gig, I just found the 50 struggled to keep up with the drummer so I got the AVT150 combo, stuck some wheels on the bottom, and that thing handles any gig, even has a decent acoustic effect too. Great amp range. Thanks for commenting 👍🏻👍🏻

      Free is definitely the best price! 😂 glad you found the video helpful, with all the heads I have, this is still my sneaky budget amp, that I play loads at home, but at 50watts, it just doesn’t get over my drummer well enough. Enjoy! 👍🏻

    Great playing overall, but that metal stuff at the end was absolutely killer. Thanks for the video! Definitely gonna try and get one of these since it can deliver the Marshall Metal sound without breaking the bank.

    Does anyone have any problems with their clean channel? I cant get a loud vlean tone without it getting crunchy, overall I have had my marshall avt50h for years am the original owner

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not overly, it definitely does start to break up slightly when getting louder, but I still only use mine at home, I tried gigging it but it struggled to get above the drummer, so I brought the AVT150 combo and that gigs really well, loads of head room. Love this range from Marshall. Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻

    Adam - Nice video. I have been running 2 of these Marshall AVT 50H Half Stacks for 2 years now. I use 2 Marshall 4 X 12 cabs an upper and a lower with both heads. I think the Marshall valve purists hate these amps. My opinion is that these amps are a diamond in the rough. They have the Marshall sound, with a little bit of tone difference betwen a full valve Marshall, not much to dither about. You can pick these up for a fraction of the cost of a full valve model. Mine are holding up well, the internal cooling fans are a little noisy on start up but settle down after a minute of run time. I got each head for $200 US then I spent about $500 for the speaker cabs. Do the math....I spent $700 for 2 Marshal 50 watt Half Stacks. These amps are out there, will probably get snapped up soon.

      @Atomic Frost If you spent 200 for each head and 500 for the cabs “The Math”is 900 not 700 . But ya I love these great bang for the buck !

    One of these is available for £120 in a nearby Cash Converters store. I'm tempted to buy it, but don't know what a pre amp is? Can this be used as a stand alone amp or does it need to be attached to a speaker? Many thanks in advance for any response from anyone 👍

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey! It definitely needs a speaker to work if it’s the head version like in my video, you can buy combos in the AVT series which has everything you need to get rocking. Hope this helps, good luck! 👍🏻👍🏻

    • @oddjob1932
      @oddjob1932 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adamcumbers232 ah cheers for the very quick response Adam. That's great advice.
      It's definetly an AVT50H that Cash Converters are selling. What was throwing me, was the output jacks and that the unit looks like a speaker. As such, I thought that this pre amp could be used as a stand alone amp, which I have learnt now, is not the case ☹️.
      To justify the purchase of the AVT50H, I would still need a decent speaker...no half measure having the AVT50H and a shitty speaker. Something for me to think about then. Once again, thanks for the info 👍

    I bought my AVT 50 H around 2003 in Germany and it was something like 430€ new. Great amp. It is half as heavy as the full tube Marshall 50w heads. With the time the ventilator got a bit louder. When you can get one for 100£ it is a good deal for a solid, good looking amp.

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally agree, I think a lot of people missed out on these amps, in my opinion they came out a bit early, what with all the boss, blackstar stuff now claiming to sound like real tubes, I think this one does well and can stand amongst the best of them. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻👍🏻

      It honestly sounded best to me through Marshall speakers. I used it through the 2x12 laney cab for ages then swapped out the speakers in it for some Marshall vintage ones and it was much more crisp. Sounded good though a blackstar 1x12 too.

    I have one i generally use as a back up amp, great amp and great sounds at low to medium volumes but if you really push the output volume it does get a little thin and tinny. If a PA is provided by the venue then i dont bother with its very heavy big bro (JCM900 MK3 50wH) just go straight with the AVT50H.

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree totally, it was my back up for ages until I got a katana. I still use this head for home recording and practice, I’ve grown rather attached to it. It just needed to be slightly louder to complete with the drummer and cut through the mix. Thanks for the comment 👍🏻

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Good Grief I swap up gear so often, I was using the Bugera 1990 head for a couple of months which sounded great with my strat, but then it developed a small hum, change the valves and it was still there, so I’ve been using a tiny 50watt vox MV50 ‘boutique’ head, great pedal platform, and so loud, couldn’t get it over half way and it was way above my drummer. Plugged into my 2x12 cab. Fantastic 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  • @bryanwilliams3665
    @bryanwilliams3665 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That sounds pretty awesome...
    i wonder how 'tube rolling' might change it for even more improvement. It may have a bit more "bees in a jar " sound than the best tube models but certainly cannot be faulted at the market price .

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It does doesn’t it, it’s a great sounding head, which I’m still using a loving, my only complaint is the volume in a live situation with a loud drummer.
      A quiet drummer would work well, but if you’ve got a heavy handed one, 50watts is going to struggle as it’s a hybrid.
      Great sound though.
      Thanks 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    I picked the avt50 combo up a couple of years ago I tend to use it over my valve amp now as it’s so reliable and sounds fantastic and consistent. Only fault I would say is there a crackle when channel switching I’ve had it looked at and it’s a design problem can’t be fixed. Can you tell me does the head version have a dual foot switch for channel and reverb?

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve just picked up a avt150 combo as I love the avt 50 head, and it’s really really good. I had a loud fan on start up on the head which I got rid of by taking the head part out and gently cleaning everything with a soft dry paint brush, gets really dirty and dusty in those things. I only have a channel switching pedal for the head. I’d use the head all the time, but it can’t compete with my drummer at 50watts. Great amps.. thanks for the comment 👍🏻

    • @adamcumbers232
      @adamcumbers232  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Good Grief hey! I always tend to run my pedal board through the dirty channels on any amp, with a slight break up, also when I’m playing live, it’s good to reduce bass on the amp and drive the mids up slightly, this will help with cutting through the mix so your not fighting to use the same frequencies. Thanks 👍🏻

I’d say the orange amp definitely has more headroom as it’s 120 watts, and this is only 50w, I personally prefer the Marshall tone, and this has it, but with that extra head room in the volume the orange head would handle most gigs large or small with no problem. I should have it in about a week. I do have a few questions: did you wind up replacing the preamp tube in the AVT50 head, and if so, any noticeable changes? I've tried a few in mine and now want to know what a real old Mullard sounds like, or one of those new expensive Gold Lions.
    Valves i tried:
    Stock Marshall ECC83 ~2000 - Good, sounds like a real Marshall. Responsive. Middle High gain, medium-low noise. Long Dark Grey plate iirc. England/ Russia/ China?
    MESA/Boogie 12AX7 ~99/2001 - Good, sounds a bit "cold" but can be very 3D and holographic. Tight. Low-ish high gain, low noise. Short plate. Russia.
    Peavey 12AX7 >1984 - Good, sounds balanced, maybe a tad thin at low volumes. Lively and loose! High gain, medium-high noise. Medium grey plate. USA.

    What settings should I use for a heavy metal tone for this head

      Brett Fields hey man, it depends how heavy you wanna go? The heaviest music I listen to is Alice in chains, Soundgarden etc so I’d probably never need the gain full up, I think in the short video I had it 3 quarters up and it’s really distorted. I’d say, put all the eq at 12 o clock and tweak to your personal taste. I hope this help, and thanks for comments 👍🏻

    It's not even close for a good metal tone and palm muting sounds like crap with this amp.

    Mate I can hear your amp humming over the top of your guitar tones. I haven't heard that before. Something wrong or thrashed perhaps.
