  • Back with a new episode on a common problem I hear about...stuck centerboards in these Herreshoff designs. I figured out a way (finally) to get it out and keep moving on more work, like cockpit sole strengthening and painting the cabin. It's all coming along!

Great episode! Not to date myself or anything... but Halsey's MOM Becky taught me how to pronounce Herreshoff properly!

Thanks Matt - glad to hear you’re feeling better and back in the videographer’s saddle again. This was great and I’m already getting ideas for the fall work season! Keep ‘em coming!

Keep well. There are some odd ways on YT of pronouncing Herreshoff, lol. This vid set me to wondering how you decide on which boat to work on and for how long, as it can be like pulling a thread from a wooly jumper....

Good question. Sometimes its a matter of having the right materials ro work on one versus another, other times, its how much time I have and how much time it will take to do what I need. Its easier sometimes to just go out and tinker around with the wooden boat because it doesn't take much prep at this point. I walk out, chip out another deck plank and I get that done. Most things with the other boats now require some prep work, like getting the epoxy together, mix it, get the surface pepper, etc. Sometimes its just what Im in the mood for :) But its all fun and way cheaper than therapy. :)

I guess you will need to get a new centerboard to be manufactured, or do you plan to weld the pieces back together? Keep posting. Regards Andre

Yea, definitely going to have to make a new one. Im going to try and get some plate metal and make one myself. But there are places too that make them.

Herres-hoff (I assume it is the way it is pronounced in German)

Yes,I think you are spot on. For some reason, I thought the family lineage from more Dutch, but I may be way off on that. Herri-Hoff sounds more accurate though to me.

A slap-happy Friesmerican might joke with "de vandern Kappersmastra", ja?
