Hi, Ruth. I live in North Florida, deep in the woods, right next to the Osceola National Forest. The single track dirt road dead-ends in my front yard, but it’s only about 1/3 mile long from where it turns off the paved road. The nearest town is only about 6 miles away. Yes, your drive looks exactly like what I thought the Scottish Highlands would be like! I expect to visit soon, partly because you’ve shown me so many interesting places!
That makes me smile, I live at the end of a dead end road in Montana that is 19 miles of dirt road then I have to drive 28 miles to nearest town, in the winter sometimes we dont go out for days... even in summer I only go to town when I have farmers markets to sell at usually....

Me and my wife have just done this road in our campervan after watching your video. The views were truly amazing. We stayed over at the car park - its £10 - but had to leave early the next day as there is work being done on the road from 8.30 in the morning. We were the only people there. Thanks for this video.

We used to deliver to the cafe at the end of the road, absolutely hated that last mile or so down the hill. funnily enough it was in a Mercedes Sprinter. Met a van with a trailer going down in the dark once so had to reverse up the hill looking for a passing place as they become a bit thin on the ground towards the end, that wasn't fun lol.
I just discovered your channel because your night in the bothy video was recommended on my feed and I’m so glad it was :,) Scotland has long been a dream destination for me and your videos help to soothe the ache I have to visit (until I finally actually can!). Your demeanour is so pleasant and fun, too! Thank you for the wonderful videos, Ruth. Love from the Okanagan of British Columbia in Canada ❤️ - Christy
I too drove that road back in 2005 and again in 2007. It was only as you drove the last mile or so where the road got very narrow and steep that I realised where you were. I remember it being worse going back up that hill at the end of the road. Thank you for the memory, I had quite forgotten that ❤
There goes Ruth again, the best ambassador for the highlands! This scenery is gorgeous and I never would have seen it without your video. I truly want to buy a van and drive around Scotland now.
Deer on this road are nearly tame and will approach your vehicle because its a diesel, They are fed during the winter by a tractor with a diesel engine. The first part of this road use to be the main road to Skye but they built a dam in the next valley so a new road was built.
I remember the cows licking the diesel off my father's tractor engine when we were out in the fields year's ago. They must be attracted to it in some way.
I climbed the cobbler in Arrochar in the 90s it was totally magical. Being from Birmingham UK, my dream is to relocate to Western Scotland soon. Thanks for the awesome views you provide us with x
Molly here! Wyomings population is a little less than 6 people per square mile. The county I live in, johnson, is a little less than 2 people per square mile. I grew up driving these roads. 2 track dirt roads! Love it!
Ruth - it is 8 pm in Wash. State U.S. - 43 SEC. into your story you gave us such a big beautiful smile - you have beautiful teeth. At age 81, I look for details in a video, if there are other folks around you then I may be watching them to see what they are doing, kids, animals, traffic - as I listen to your story. It has been a wet day here so just rested all day, watched some dreary news, a few youtube stories and now this evening I am having Pizza and coffee and enjoying the start of your story.😄
Best place ever. If you go, can recomend Mingary Castle in Kilchoan, beutiful place to stay. Senna beach is also very beutiful, turn off right after leaving Kilchoan on road to light House.
@@Robert.M.zx6r Rode it back from Kilchoan to the ferry early in the morning, several years ago with 3 mates. Astonishing ride, as it was more like a "Police Run" with motorists moving over as we went. Not crazy speeds, but "making progress"! A local in a Van tucked in behind us and stopped when we all pulled over, and asked could we do it everytime he was going to Inverness!! 🤣
@@ruthaisling I’ve worked on the lighthouse as a roofing contractor since 2021. Please visit this stunning location. The place deserves tourist attention and the lighthouse is well worth a visit. You’ll love the road trip
Mm.I wonder if that’s the one I was along yesterday? Does it go near Loch Chon with a turning for Loch Ard forest? We were hoping for a coach route and parking but it was problematic so we abandoned the search and went back to Aberfoyle for rolls on bacon etc from that fantastic butcher’s shop instead 😂😋
It's only a dead end because there is a locked gate at Stronachlachar (private, Scottish Water Road beyond). The road continues all of the way around Loch Katrine to the visitor centre and it is open to walkers and cyclists. It's a very nice cycle ride!
Wow! A new subscriber here. Born and brought up in Scotland (Edinburgh) and done a fair bit of travelling all over our wonderful country, but I had never heard of this beautiful part of the country until now. Absolutely stunning. now looking forward to checking out more of your past videos. 🥰
Drumrunie to Reiff is 16 miles long and very beautiful. At Reiff there are fantastic cliffs and usually a good swell making some great picture opportunities with the green water and red sandstone. Usually a quiet road.
Drumrunie to Culncraig is a few miles longer. Though single track, it couldn't be considered 'dead end' because of the Coigach loop. Ruth switches between single track and dead end. I think she said single track in error.
@@briann2541 Silly me. It is a single track road. I just thought when you came to the end of a road with no option except to turn back, as you have to do at Culnacraig and Reiff then that was a 'dead end'. You learn something every day.
@alancumming6407 Yes, so Achvraie to Culnacraig or Altandhu to Reiff would be the dead end roads, even if there's only one road in and out of Coigach. Ruth's road here has no junction along its entire length, making it a true dead end road.
@@briann2541 That's amazing. Wow! So the road I mentioned is not a true dead end road even although it ends in a dead end? This dead end road stuff is a minefield and, it has rules too.
What a lovely drive. How refreshing it is to navigate a road with so little traffic and even fewer people. Liked your filming technique on this post with you inset, as you showed us the passage.
Thank you Ruth. I found you by chance on You tube and wanted to thank you for your lovely unique video of this dead end road. I travel from USA to Scotland every summer and explore your beautiful country on my motorbike adventures but never heard about this road before. I will most certainly go visiting this summer when I return from my Norway trip.
An amazing route! Irresistible scenery and you are so enthusiastic in your adventures. This is exactly what I would imagine wild Scotland to be like! Thanks so much for this great video!
The contrast between the wonderful scenery of the red color of the Toyota Hiace is beautiful. Its nice to drive away from the noise of the city. Im looking forward to the next time ill be Hiking in Scotland last wilderness.
That is a quality road. I rode my motorcycle down it a few years ago and it is amazing. It really does take you to the middle of nowhere. I saw some golden eagles at Kinloch Hourn, and even met a guy from my home town who was off kayaking. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
Another wonderful travel-vlog...so beautiful! Thank you so much! Oh and your new glasses...must be bifocals...the lower part is for reading perhaps? Keep the awesome videos coming and I'll keep watching my friend...

What great video. I live in Bozeman Montana, USA. We are surrounded by the Rocky Mountain Range, where we have many dead end roads high up. It’s always a wee adventure when exploring. I enjoyed the thrill you had as you drove through such beautiful country. Love the channel. Cheers!
A friend and I walking in that area last June. Two points to remember....... One person had decided that the rule about not taking a caravan down that road, didn't apply to him..... he created serious problems for other road users! Wise to remember that the weather can change quite quickly. My friend and I walked to the bothy at Barrisdale from the car park, and spent the night there. The next day, in glorious sunshine, we followed the stalkers paths over the hills to the Western end of Loch Quaich. We pitched up on the shore. Then we noticed a storm at the dam end of the loch, about 5-6 miles away.... the storm headed our way and within 20 minutes, it was above us..... Very high winds, torrential rain and very noisy thunder storm..... all whipped-up from a sunny calm day in just a few minutes...... It abated almost as quickly as it arrived..... after about 5 minutes directly over head. Fortunately we had our tents up just in time. Useless piece of information::- Until the new road was built around Loch Loyne, (early 50s) the first 5 miles of the road, as far as Tomdoun, was the main road to the Isles....... it must have been a long weary drive in those days!
Hi Ruth, thanks for making this video. I've just done the trip on my motorbike and returned home to West Lothian. Thankfully its not accessible to everyone coz its awsome. I'll be going back soon and doing the walk to the remote village. Keep them coming.
Looks tranquil in clear sunny weather. Passing through Kinloch Hourn in horizontal rain at New Year, walking from Glenfinnan to Shiel Bridge, is a different cup of tea.
Ruth I have spent a lot of holidays in the highlands of Scotland and done a lot of rail journeys like the west highland line, far north line and the Kyle of Lochalsh. I stayed in Oban, Fort William and Inverness and plan to return soon.
I shared a chalet in Invergarry a couple of times and one afternoon drove part of this road to Kinloch Hourn. I had kittens. what doesn't really come across in this video.. unless the road at the east end has been modified is just how many mini blind-summits there are when at times just about all you can see is sky. But it was great fun even though I only managed about six miles of it before I bottled out.
No sign saying its a dead end road is crazy. The Tarbert to Hushnish road is a long winding road dead end road in Harris and ends at a beautiful beach and a walk takes you over a path that looks onto Scarp island and more stunning beaches.!
I walked the South Glen Shiel Ridge in 1987 and it looks down on that road from the north from 3000' up. We were intrigued, so we drove it the next day. The scenery is stunning an you feel so isolated, a bit like you're in Alaska or Siberia.
I did a day return trip from Glasgow to the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse - the last 25 miles were also mainly single track. A lot of traffic in August so it took ages but well worth the trip.
Hey Ruth, I forgot to say I’ve purchased a Bluetti AC70 with 120w folding solar for my son for his big birthday (50) they like to go off grid in their van with young noisy boys, 5 & 8, it will be great in Scotland in their July holiday. They do have more 12volt power already, but they have a small low power air fryer which will help with the catering. I hope yours is still working well, they have very good reviews. Cheers Mike 🥃🏴👍👍
We have Interstate, then State, then County roads. Sometimes, the County roads can be more narrow, but 2 cars can pass by. Roads like the one you are driving on are rare where I live I. Tennessee.
I've never been to Scotland but it is beautiful! When you asked if we have been on a dead-end road I do remember one that stands out. I was in Alaska and we were permitted to camp at the very end of Denali National Park. You can't drive it, you take a park bus. To the end it 7-8 hours of a gravel road and then you're dropped off. It's most desolate place I've ever been but also one of the beautiful. It has the worst mosquito's I've ever encountered. Then again the mosquito is Alaska's state bird... :):)
I started watching this out of interest… Turns out I’ve been down that road as a kid. My Stepmum’s sister was Uni friends with one of the landowners up that way and we used to stay at the hunting lodge at Kinlochourn! That was back in the 90’s, it was defo less populated by vans and folk back then. Stunning bit of country.
I pictured Scotland with big hills as I had seen some of the highlands in pictures but that is so amazing what you discovered on this long dead end road. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! Hope to go see it someday!
Cracking video,I’ve been there in a small inflatable from glenelg but never driven down that road, heard it was pretty extreme, now I know, thank you so much for the video.
Can't help thinking of the Talking heads song " I'm on a road to nowhere " , definitely a great road. I live a mile up a track and this time of year have young dear walking through the garden. I love watching them , they often stand looking around just meters from the house and as long as the dog doesn't see them and start her barking they are happy to hang round, though they have stripped one of my saplings of its bark which is disappointing.
Ruth Once again, you have shared a fantastic video showing and describing an amazing part of Scotland. Your content, Scotland’s scenery, and YOU are magnificent.
What a nice drive! I never thought there were such nice mountains in Scotland, it really is beautiful there, we also have one track roads here in Austria where I live, scary at times when someone is coming down the mountain, they have priority and you hope to find a place to pull over so they can continue their way down, thanks for taking us along!
Amazing video, my partner and I have recently returned from a visit to Invergarry staying at a local campsite. Watching this made me smile all the way through I managed to take a dip in the Loch as it's one of my most favourite places to visit when in Scotland, the dog even came for a swim with me. Very chilly mind.
7:56 curious, since Germany has the same deer we have, plus bison, wolves and lynx. Also considerably closer to go to Poland where they also have moose and bears.
Looking forward to the next video. Was in Knoydart myself last week. Beautiful. Bothy again at Barrisdale, you will meet some lovely people on the way and there.
My favourite, the road to Hushiness on Harris. Amazing road with a lovely beach at the end. And another beach a short walk away. Perfect. Only 13 miles though which seemed like a very long way.
Ruth absolutely fantastic aerial views and breathtaking. Gairich is a distinctive solitary Munro on the south side of Loch Quioch. Nearly always climbed from the Loch Quioch Dam. Another long road is from Glen etive from Glen Coe. Stay safe and love how you take my mind back to lovely places l have visited in Scotland.
Great, exciting film, well narrated ! Thanks. I’ve done that route a couple of times. In Northumberland where I lived all my life until 3 years ago, there are a few of these but only about 20 miles. In The Cotswolds where I live now there are many single track routes but only relatively short dead end routes. I know where you headed. Fantastic adventure.
Loved this tour Ruth, as I always do with your videos - thank you! You should post the month of your video recordings, as things can look so different at times. My visits to Scotland are for 2 reasons - to enjoy solidarity in nature (love deer!), and to renew my appreciation of humanity by encounters with Scottish people. Their kindness an humour is second to none, and it helps that I am a descendant (great grandfather) and with my name (Scots Gaelic version). Wink!
Love your channel and videos. We moved to Scotland last year after coming here for years for holidays. An opportunity arose and we just decided to go for it. We live in Speyside now, definitely worth a visit for your channel I think, it's beautiful up here.
Come to Devon which has 8000 miles of road within the county and probably has a quarter of them as single track which are sunken lanes or run between high hedges
Great video Ruth! Before I moved to Canada 27 years ago I lived near Kyle of Lochalsh and would often travel through Invergarry and see that road end. I often wondered what was down there so thanks for making the trip. Your excitement is so infectious and you do so much to showcase our beautiful country. Thank you 😊 🏴
Hope you made it up to the Glengarry viewpoint while you were in that neck of the woods. It looks like a map of Scotland from above - on the Kyle road just a few miles from Invergarry.
Hi Ruth I've been half way down that road year's ago it's fantastic I love all round Scotland and especially the islands stay safe 💙 your doing well thanks for sharing my bonnie lassie travel friend 🧡 😊
I’ve lived in Scotland most of my life but always just spent holidays abroad and in England or Wales and so I never saw that much of Scotland but now I’m starting to explore more and your videos make me want to get out in this beautiful land that we live in ☺️
I did not expect to see such amazing views...... I was 14 for my first and only time in Scotland and remember mostly hills. This is fascinating! love seeing all the deers too. Can't wait for your next video!!
Hi, what a brilliant video. Yes I have done a similar route. Rannoch Moor to Loch Etive....but it is only 13 miles. I believe it is where the James Bond movie was filmed. You certainly brighten up the day with your lovely smile and brilliant adventures. I too love Scotland and have been going to the Highlands for 50 years this year....sometimes twice a year to fish on Loch Awe. I will be coming in the next few weeks and cannot wait. Please keep the lovely videos coming. Best wishes David
Hi Ruth, this is one of my favourite roads and as I live locally I try to cycle it at once or twice a year. Totally agree with you about the scenery and it changes with the seasons. Thanks for sharing the beer52 link I’m looking forward to trying the beers
Thank you so much for this video. We love driving such lonely single track roads and we are always looking for new ones. We have noted it for our next trip to Scotland in October. We will drive it with our Suzuki Jimny, the perfect car for these roads.
Wonderful trip thank you. Here's another for you, Salen to Ardnamurchan lighthouse, 25.3 miles. This is sort of a dead end, there are other roads leading from it, but they're dead ends too. Of particular note is the road to Sanna beach. There is a ferry from Mull though which will get you close to the end, so not sure it counts. Either way it's worth a trip.
I drove down it a few years ago , then paddled my kayak down Loch Horne to Barrisdale bay climbing to the nearby Munro the next day . One of my best memories, and best adventures.
@@ruthaisling Yep...spent a couple of nights on that road. It would be great to see you do the west coast right to the top Ruth...there's some great pies to be had in Lochinver, the best fish n chips ever in Ullapool and chocolate to die for in Durness...and a zipslide over what must be one of the UK's best beaches right at the top...and more stunning scenery than you could shake a stick at!! Keep up the great work!
Great video Ruth. I've spent many years driving and climbing around Scotland. Never heard of the dead end road. Fantastic views. A wee adventure you might want to try is the road from Kirriemuir to Glen Doll. That's dead end and about 18 miles. But when you get to the end leave the van and the adventure begins. If you walk from the car park up Jocks Road for a few miles you end up at Dark Loch Nagar near Balmoral. Who knows you might bump into King Charles he walks around that area. Seriously a great walk worth filming. Take care lass and hope to see many more videos.
We stayed at Inchlaggan for 2 months in early 2019, temps dropped to -11c but we had plenty supplies. The last 10 miles was closed due to a landslide, locals had to use boat for deliveries. We had to use the first 5 miles of the lane which wasn't gritted to get back to the A87 to take a dog to the vets in Inverness, some 60 miles away. Was pretty nerve-wracking on the icy single track road but thankfully the main roads were fine.
You should go to Lewis and Harris! There are the Calanish standing stones and an amazing preserved old village. I was only there for a day though so I bet you could find more there since Lewis is so large
I did that drive a couple of years ago and met a 7.5 ton lorry coming DOWN that narrowest stretch at the end as I was coming back up. That was the scariest encounter I've ever had driving in Scotland. Worth it for the view though! (I pulled into that passing place where you mentioned the shortbread after reversing back down to get to it)
Im from southern New Zealand and ive driven around Scotland and here looks very much like Scotland and one can see why this region was settled by Scots. We have pipe bands and curling here
Hi Ruth, sorry I’ve missed you for a bit. We’ve been along to the Kyle road many times but missed this tuning!! Views stunning, well done. Cheers Mike🍷🍷👍👍
Absolutely stunning video Ruth! Wished it was longer. The scenery there is something else. It looks like bi-focals on those sunglasses? Haven't seen that before. In Australia, we do have single car roads quite often, when you travel to the more rural areas. One I remember personally is a long stretch of the road to & from "Jenolan Caves" in NSW. Narrow roads & tight bends... You have to be very careful. Beautiful video & it looked like a wonderful experience. Will look forward to the next. 🩷
What a great video, the scenery is stunning, makes me want to visit the Highlands again soon! Where I live in Sussex, we do have a handful of single track roads / lanes, but mainly they are in the rural parts of the county
I liked the first person shots looking out from the van more, I would have liked to see a timelapse of the journey. The drone shots you take really flatten the landscape and make it feel quite drab, all while you're exclaiming how amazing it is. It is more amazing from the ground, up close.
Thanks for the feedback. The sun reflection in the window was terrible and most of the footage was unusable so I courier share any timelapse. There is a longer version of the video available on Patreon which has more driving footage.
Stunning video and so well narrated. Have you traversed the Glen Etive’s ‘Road to Nowhere’ off the A82 near Glencoe? It’s another dead end road that’s about 12 miles long and it is absolutely and exquisitely stunning right from the off. It was used in films like ‘Skyfall’ and ‘Harry Potter’ etc for its shear stunning scenery and would make for another beautiful video for your channel.🥰

Thanks for sharing, that’s very interesting!
I remember the cows licking the diesel off my father's tractor engine when we were out in the fields year's ago. They must be attracted to it in some way.
@@martymartin2894 With the deer I think it is the sound equals food thing. Also a thing to be aware of is sheep, they love road salt.
Watching from the White Mountains of Arizona USA. Scotland is beautiful.
Thanks so much for watching from Arizona!
I climbed the cobbler in Arrochar in the 90s it was totally magical. Being from Birmingham UK, my dream is to relocate to Western Scotland soon. Thanks for the awesome views you provide us with x
I'm watching from Phoenix, Arizona...hello White Mountains! I love following Ruth's adventures...
@@gazmasonik2411 I climbed the Cobbler in 1967 and again in 2015. Second time was tough, as I was a wee bit older..
Molly here! Wyomings population is a little less than 6 people per square mile. The county I live in, johnson, is a little less than 2 people per square mile. I grew up driving these roads. 2 track dirt roads! Love it!
Wow, thanks for sharing Molly!
Ruth - it is 8 pm in Wash. State U.S. - 43 SEC. into your story you gave us such a big beautiful smile - you have beautiful teeth. At age 81, I look for details in a video,
if there are other folks around you then I may be watching them to see what they are doing, kids, animals, traffic - as I listen to your story. It has been a wet day here so
just rested all day, watched some dreary news, a few youtube stories and now this evening I am having Pizza and coffee and enjoying the start of your story.😄
The road from Salen to Ardnamurchan Lighthouse would like a word: 25 miles of single track. Decent view and cafe at the end though.
Done that road at 55 years old on a sports bike at the insistence of my son in law. Wouldn’t do it again. 🤣
Ardnamurchan lighthouse seems like a destination worth exploring! Thanks for sharing this information!
@@ruthaisling
I’ve worked on the lighthouse as a roofing contractor since 2021.
Please visit this stunning location. The place deserves tourist attention and the lighthouse is well worth a visit.
You’ll love the road trip
Quite a few in New Zealand, usually gravel, lots of twists and turns, ups and downs and livestock around most corners.
The B829 from Aberfoyle to Loch Katrine is mostly single track and has a dead end too, in the beautiful scenery of the Trossachs 😊
I’ve heard about this, must go there soon!
Wow! A new subscriber here. Born and brought up in Scotland (Edinburgh) and done a fair bit of travelling all over our wonderful country, but I had never heard of this beautiful part of the country until now. Absolutely stunning. now looking forward to checking out more of your past videos. 🥰
I think that spot on the sunglasses is for reading things up close.
Haha, good to know!
@@ruthaisling I think your probably at least 20 years too young to need those glasses lol
Yes they’re over the counter bifocal glasses. Useful for us old folk for reading in bright sun.
Think the plastic is for protection when you buy them you remove the plastic from lens I also got some sunglasses from home bargains
Hi addicted, I'm also addicted to Ruth 😁
Drumrunie to Reiff is 16 miles long and very beautiful. At Reiff there are fantastic cliffs and usually a good swell making some great picture opportunities with the green water and red sandstone. Usually a quiet road.
Drumrunie to Culncraig is a few miles longer. Though single track, it couldn't be considered 'dead end' because of the Coigach loop. Ruth switches between single track and dead end. I think she said single track in error.
Thanks for sharing this information, I'd love to go there someday!
Thanks Michael! It was lovely drive and glad you liked the video editing!
Hope you have a great time when you visit! Thanks for watching from The USA!
Hiya Ruth . Never heard of this road , but it sounds crazy scenic dead end road with no public transport but looks great.Enjoy
I hadn't ever heard of it either, but the views were amazing!
That was stunning Ruth. I've added that drive to my wishlist for next summer when we'll be up that way. Thanks for the heads up 😊
Hope you enjoy it!!
Thanks for taking us along on your single-track adventure. Fun. Views were amazing. We look forward to your wilderness excursion next.
Thank you, the views on the hike are even more spectacular. I'm looking forward to sharing the video when it's ready!
I drove that in 2010. It is a terrible road. Well done you for tackling it in a van. It feels very remote when you get there.
An amazing route! Irresistible scenery and you are so enthusiastic in your adventures. This is exactly what I would imagine wild Scotland to be like! Thanks so much for this great video!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching 🙏
The contrast between the wonderful scenery of the red color of the Toyota Hiace is beautiful. Its nice to drive away from the noise of the city. Im looking forward to the next time ill be Hiking in Scotland last wilderness.
Thanks for watching, I hope you’ll like the next video!
That is a quality road. I rode my motorcycle down it a few years ago and it is amazing. It really does take you to the middle of nowhere. I saw some golden eagles at Kinloch Hourn, and even met a guy from my home town who was off kayaking. Thanks for sharing your experience with it.
That must have been an amazing trip on a motorbike!
Another wonderful travel-vlog...so beautiful! Thank you so much! Oh and your new glasses...must be bifocals...the lower part is for reading perhaps? Keep the awesome videos coming and I'll keep watching my friend...
That's good to know, I wondered what was going on with them haha!
@@ruthaisling Be safe on your hike Ruth! Enjoy your new sunglasses but be careful as those lower lenses can trip you up going downhill....take care pal 😎
What great video. I live in Bozeman Montana, USA. We are surrounded by the Rocky Mountain Range, where we have many dead end roads high up. It’s always a wee adventure when exploring. I enjoyed the thrill you had as you drove through such beautiful country. Love the channel. Cheers!
Thank you so much 😊
If it wasn't for Ruth, I wouldn't have seen this amazing place, thanks Ruth 🫶🏼
Thanks for watching Phil!
Plenty of single track roads here in Shetland, quite a few could be classed as 'dead end' as there is nowhere to go except back the way you came.
I’ll need to try some of them next time I’m in Shetland! If Ernie will fit! 😂
Useless piece of information::-
Until the new road was built around Loch Loyne, (early 50s) the first 5 miles of the road, as far as Tomdoun, was the main road to the Isles....... it must have been a long weary drive in those days!
Great points about the changeable weather, thanks for sharing your experience!
Another great video. These are infectious, even more so if you've been to Scotland before. Never been down this road. The views are stunning.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Nope! The longest dead end road is the M6 to Birmingham ( and I live there 😂)
😂😂
Know what you mean 😂
You can miss it by going around and around on the M40😂
Hi Ruth, thanks for making this video. I've just done the trip on my motorbike and returned home to West Lothian. Thankfully its not accessible to everyone coz its awsome.
I'll be going back soon and doing the walk to the remote village.
Keep them coming.
Love from India 😀
Thanks for watching from India!
Looks tranquil in clear sunny weather. Passing through Kinloch Hourn in horizontal rain at New Year, walking from Glenfinnan to Shiel Bridge, is a different cup of tea.
Sound like a very different trip to mine!
Great road. Drove it years ago in blazing sunshine. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Glad you enjoyed it and got decent weather ☀️
Ruth I have spent a lot of holidays in the highlands of Scotland and done a lot of rail journeys like the west highland line, far north line and the Kyle of Lochalsh.
I stayed in Oban, Fort William and Inverness and plan to return soon.
Sounds lovely! Hope you enjoy your next trip back here!
I'd love to try that road sometime, thanks for sharing!
No I never imagined that Scotland looked like this. I thought old cities and towns and bogs. Moors they may be called or' there. Awesome job. ♥️💯👊
I walked the South Glen Shiel Ridge in 1987 and it looks down on that road from the north from 3000' up. We were intrigued, so we drove it the next day. The scenery is stunning an you feel so isolated, a bit like you're in Alaska or Siberia.
That sounds like a great hike 👍 it’s a very beautiful place!
My Bluetti is doing great 👍 I hope they get on well with it.
Oh wow, what an experience! Thanks for sharing!
Staying at the hunting lodge must have been amazing!!
I pictured Scotland with big hills as I had seen some of the highlands in pictures but that is so amazing what you discovered on this long dead end road. Thanks so much for sharing it with us! Hope to go see it someday!
It was so amazing! 😍 Hope you can visit sometime! Thanks for watching!
The deer you were seeing later in the video are Roe Deer withthe white rear end.
That’s interesting, thanks for sharing
Cracking video,I’ve been there in a small inflatable from glenelg but never driven down that road, heard it was pretty extreme, now I know, thank you so much for the video.
That must have been an amazing trip! Thanks for watching 🙏
Eye it was brilliant, can’t wait till your next video 👌
Can't help thinking of the Talking heads song " I'm on a road to nowhere " , definitely a great road. I live a mile up a track and this time of year have young dear walking through the garden. I love watching them , they often stand looking around just meters from the house and as long as the dog doesn't see them and start her barking they are happy to hang round, though they have stripped one of my saplings of its bark which is disappointing.
Deer are so amazing to watch! 😍
Ruth
Once again, you have shared a fantastic video showing and describing an amazing part of Scotland.
Your content, Scotland’s scenery, and YOU are magnificent.
Thank you so much!
It was really nice! Thanks for watching from Austria!
Oh wow I can imagine the loch would still be very chilly this time of year!!
Sounds like you had fun in Knoydart and Barrisdale! 😊 Thanks for watching!
My favourite, the road to Hushiness on Harris. Amazing road with a lovely beach at the end. And another beach a short walk away. Perfect. Only 13 miles though which seemed like a very long way.
Thanks for sharing this!
Hi Ruth. I’ve only been to Fife and St Andrew’s to find my family castle. I love exploring with you - a richness of fantastic views! Thanks
Glad you're enjoying the videos! Fife and St. Andrews are so lovely!
I’d love to visit the Glen Etive road sometime too
Great, exciting film, well narrated ! Thanks. I’ve done that route a couple of times. In Northumberland where I lived all my life until 3 years ago, there are a few of these but only about 20 miles. In The Cotswolds where I live now there are many single track routes but only relatively short dead end routes.
I know where you headed. Fantastic adventure.
The Cotswolds must be a lovely place to live! I visited once back in 2019. Haha, you know the end destination! 🍺
@@ruthaisling I’m sure you will forge ahead. I spent 71 years in Northumberland.
Wink!
Glad to hear you like Scotland so much! I filmed this in April!
My Dad, Uncle and cousins have fished in loch Garry many times, but I haven’t seen those views in almost 30 years! Thank you for sharing.

You MUST visit Scotland! We go every year! We're off to Mull very soon. Yippee!
Oh lovely! What flavour ice cream is it?
The B846 from Aberfeldy to Rannoch Station is a dead end but you can catch a train. A bit tame compared with your dead end road.
I drove that road last year when I went to Corrour.
Last one I did was the road of the A82down Glen Etive. Equally stunning, but I guess a bit shorter.
we have the roads in north yorkshire, but your views and lochs are another level of stunning, great vid btw
Thank you very much!
Thank you 😊 🏴
It’s quite an unassuming road as there is no sign saying what is there! 😂
Hope you made it up to the Glengarry viewpoint while you were in that neck of the woods. It looks like a map of Scotland from above - on the Kyle road just a few miles from Invergarry.

It was so nice to see all the deer 😍
Hi, what a brilliant video. Yes I have done a similar route. Rannoch Moor to Loch Etive....but it is only 13 miles. I believe it is where the James Bond movie was filmed. You certainly brighten up the day with your lovely smile and brilliant adventures. Hi Ruth, this is one of my favourite roads and as I live locally I try to cycle it at once or twice a year. Totally agree with you about the scenery and it changes with the seasons.
Thanks for sharing the beer52 link I’m looking forward to trying the beers
Cycling it must be amazing!! I hope you enjoy the beers 🍻
Thank you so much for this video. We love driving such lonely single track roads and we are always looking for new ones. We have noted it for our next trip to Scotland in October. We will drive it with our Suzuki Jimny, the perfect car for these roads.
That will be amazing, what a fab vehicle! 😍
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for sharing this information, I'd love to visit Ardnamurchan lighthouse someday!
I drove down it a few years ago , then paddled my kayak down Loch Horne to Barrisdale bay climbing to the nearby Munro the next day . One of my best memories, and best adventures.
That sounds incredible!!
Great vid Ruth about one of the most fascinating roads in Scotland... saw you go past and waved...parked up next to the bridge!
Was that you in the video! What a fab spot for the night!!
That sounds so interesting, I'll hopefully get there at some point. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the tip! On my list 👍
Beautifully shot Ruth, I love joining your adventures! The scenery is spectacular! Keep up the good work..Prof. Geoffrey in Brazil!😀
Glad you're enjoying the videos! Thanks for watching Prof. Geoffrey from Brazil!
I did that drive a couple of years ago and met a 7.5 ton lorry coming DOWN that narrowest stretch at the end as I was coming back up. That was the scariest encounter I've ever had driving in Scotland. Worth it for the view though! (I pulled into that passing place where you mentioned the shortbread after reversing back down to get to it)
That sounds so scary! I’m really glad I didn’t meet anything 🫣

You need to take the turn next time!
thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it 😆
What a great video, the scenery is stunning, makes me want to visit the Highlands again soon! Where I live in Sussex, we do have a handful of single track roads / lanes, but mainly they are in the rural parts of the county
It is really stunning! 😍 Hope you have a great time when you visit!
Thank you!!
the content ive been searching for, cold, cozy vids w fun narration. first vid i watched here is the one with the eerie brothy, didnt expect that, first time seeing an adventure vid when there is actually a scary part but you did it. keep safe
