I'm an indigenous person from the U.S. and here we believe (it might just be as a joke, bit it's what I've always heard growing up) if you drop food while you're cooking or eating, it means the spirits want some too! That's what I immediately thought of when I saw you drop the raviolis lol Well, at least the spirits got to try some of your delicious dinner too! Lol Loved the video btw and can't wait for more caravan/camping adventures!
Yes, during the Chinese 7th Ghost month in Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Taiwan. There will be many food offerings placed on the floor for the hungry ghosts to Indulge.
I’m Scottish. Here we have a thing where if you drop salt - spill salt spill sorrow. - it’s meant to unleash some bad luck on you or your family. You stop it by immediately casting it over your left shoulder. I’m not sure why it’s the left shoulder particularly. But my mum believed in it. She believed in the other world. She was born in the early 30s so maybe it’s that. - I liked your story.
I met an old friend today. Born with cerebral palsy, she is now virtually blind and wheelchair bound for years. She is off next week to ride the London Eye with one of her personal assistants, quite rightly she refuses to call them carers. A week later she will be cruising to Norway. We talked of life as old friends are accustomed to do. Julia reminded me that you have to concentrate on what you can do, not what you can't She remains the most inspiring person I have ever had the lucky chance of knowing. You share some of that life affirming nature. She writes appalling poetry of which I never cease to remind her. Naturally I cannot speak of any poetic vision you might possess but frankly that of a malevolent kangaroo might serve better than hers. Thank you for your own hard work and vision. It brings joy. With best wishes.
Some people just have an urge to destroy things. It's very unfortunate that they take out their anger on beautiful and historical things. It's like those horrible people who throw paint on priceless paintings in museums.
I always find geology fascinating. Amazing to think the Scottish Highlands used to be part of the same mountain range as the Appalachian mountains here in the USA. Way back when they were the Pangean mountain range.
I was happy to see it was an actual cave. A lot of TH-camrs go stay in a "cave" that is simply a rock outcropping. Caves are great shelter, they keep a constant temperature year round. So they are warm in winter and cool in summer. Also, you should use a non inflatable mat for trips like this. It's so easy to puncture an air mat.
Ruth, this video sent chills up my spine. There has to be “some” truth to the story of Sawney Bean. If it’s only a myth, it still makes for a great tale especially suited to be recounted in a dark cave by the ocean. I’ve seen just about all of your videos. As I was watching this one I poured myself a scotch and drank a toast to you. Bravo! Thank you.
Where I live in the US, there are many caves to explore. When I was younger, we had SO MUCH FUN in the heat of summer, exploring caves. Inside, those caves are always around 60 degrees Fahrenheit (summer or winter), so it was nice and cool inside. The cave I loved the best was gigantic. There were rope climbs, breakdown rooms to clamber over, and small holes to wiggle through on your stomach. We'd come out covered in mud with muscles quivering from all the exercise. Then, we'd jump in the nearby creek and rinse all the mud out of our clothes. It was a blast! But you are right: it is DARK inside. NO light at all. When you turn off your headlamp, you cannot see your hand in front of your face. The only sound was water dripping. You could scare yourself half to death, imagining cave monsters and such. Best NOT to do that! Most spelunkers are wonderful people. :)
I'm glad to find your channel. I'll be 60 this year and I've never had the means to travel abroad. Scotland, of all the places in this world, most calls to me. I have experienced some adventures, in 1983 exploring tunnels under the NYC subways in the company of a college friend who'd grown up in the city. In 1984, I hitchhiked alone from Vermont to NYC. In 1996, I slept in SF's Golden Gate Park for two nights, then walked to and across the Golden Gate Bridge at dawn. I also stayed at a rough rooming house on Decatur Street in New Orleans' French Quarter for a time in 1997. I didn't mind the conditions though, because the French Quarter was so enthralling. I'll never get to Scotland though, so it was a treat to see your Bothy video, and this one too, although if I had a bucket list, caves would not be on it, lol.

Sawney Bean is a legendary figure in Scottish folklore, often depicted as a notorious criminal and cannibal. According to the legend, Alexander "Sawney" Bean was the leader of a 48-member clan in 16th-century Scotland that murdered and cannibalised numerous travelers. The Beans supposedly lived in a coastal cave in Bennane Head, Ayrshire, from where they would ambush and rob passersby. The tale goes that Sawney Bean and his clan were eventually captured and executed after a massive manhunt organised by King James VI of Scotland. The story, though widely circulated, lacks historical evidence and is considered by many historians to be more myth than fact, possibly originating as anti-Scottish propaganda. The legend of Sawney Bean has endured in popular culture, appearing in various books, films, and other media over the years.

Grimmlifecollective went to this cave just 4 weeks ago, it was scary enough seeing them explore it as a couple in the middle of the day. Remember to stay safe Ruth! All it takes is a rock to come loose and it's game over.
That is exactly why I come to the comments too, more or less say the same I forgot the name of the cave but I recognised the rock 🪨 that she climbed over 🏴 .
I’ve subbed you now 😂 can’t believe or understand why you do these camps solo? So brave . They make em tough in Scotland ❤ and I love the content. You’ seem like a lovely lady , very genuine .
You are very brave! I love all the stories about the past, so I knew the story of the Beans and their cave. This made the overnighter even more exciting for me! Thank you so much.
Hi Ruth: I do love each and every one of your videos. This one is no exception. Once in the cave, I felt a total uneasiness and discomfort. To my surprise, the surroundings would not be what troubled me more. This was not the Ruth I thought I knew. The story was spine tingling, but it was this adorable woman sitting on her camping bed, with thoughts of death floating around in her mind. Only then did I feel the cold draft of a slaughterhouse on my neck. You constantly amaze me. I may need a little more time before I see your next video. Be safe, (What am I saying?)
Enjoyed watching you in the cave. Very brave woman. I'm sure that whiskey helped! You inspire me. Well done and thanks for posting such interesting content. A joy to watch.
Do you ever question your life choices when you could be reviewing 5 star luxury hotels ? ! Fair play to you - I couldnt have done it ! "If you choose to visit this cave" ! Great video as always
This is interesting! My husband grew up on a road named “Sawnee Bean Road” in Vermont, USA 🇺🇸. I always assumed it had been named by a native tribe from the area- now I’ll have to find out more about it! 😊
Another very entertaining video Ruth 👍 You are certainly a very adventurous and brave woman! After a night in a cave I definitely would not look anywhere as good as you in the morning 😉 Looking forward to your next adventure. Andy
This is one of the most fun camping videos I have ever seen! I totally understand creeping oneself out; glad the whiskey calmed you, lol. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Wow - very brave to stay there, but awesome experience - respect is due to you 👍. Surprised about the jetboil - I’ve had one for a couple of years and love it. Never had any problems. Re the graffiti - I ‘m afraid I’m in the ‘NO’ camp. Why do people carry cans of spray paint when they go to remote places? Why spoil what nature creates - totally makes me angry. As a photographer I believe in following the mantra “leave nothing behind, only footprints”.
A good video Ruth but I do get worried about you doing these activities on your own but I do admire you for doing these activities to get content for your videos.
My parents took me to scotland when I was 8 years old. At a gift shop I picked up the softest little highland cow plushie and a scottish legends and folklore book. I remember reading about sawney bean, nessie, a death hole in the ground that people kept falling into, and so on. It was utterly fascinating. Now i’m thirty and watching from korea. I’m grateful I can revisit these memories through channels like yours❤
I'm just glad you didn't encounter any other humans--they're the scariest! I admire how you always fix a hot dinner for yourself in any conditions. (I'd just bring an apple and snack bar). Glad you made it through the night okay!
this was very scary I doubt id even go in the cave in daylight let alone spend the night, congrats on almost 100k subs. towards the end I think you got a bit merry with those whisky shots 😊
Fair play for doing this overnighter 😳 If you do any more haunted/cursed nights out, I'd recommend taking a friend who has an endless supply of blood chilling ghost stories 😂😂
Hello Ruth. I think I would have taken a larger bottle of whisky with me. I have been in a cave house in Spain and it was cool but dry. Old Sawney Beans cave definitely was not as comfortable. I read about him and his incestious family many years ago, he certainly wasn’t a typical friendly Scot. Slainte!
Well done Ruth, you are one brave girl. I would be scared visiting there during the day with one or two others. Watching lots of scary movies doesnt help! I really enjoy your videos. And you're absolutely right, whisky is the best drink ever 🥃
Interesting videos. You are definitely a brave lady. This video of sleeping overnight alone in a Cannibal's Cave, and the sleeping overnight in a Remote Scotland Bothy are great! I have a question: How do you deal with bugs you come across upon inspecting a place to spend the night in? I saw a video by another lady spending the night in a bothy alone. She carries an adjustable broom and dust pan in her backpack to sweep the bugs away before she makes herself comfortable. Your videos are way better, cause she doesn't talk in her videos. You explain well to the viewers of where you are at, the historic places, your experiences, plans and so on.
Ruth, you are one very brave human being. Thank you for sharing your daring adventure with us because l can’t do brave things like that any more. Much admiration and respect to you. 🙏🏼🇦🇺💕
OMG! 😱😱I just found your channel and am so excited to follow your adventures. This tale is truly shocking! Even though I have outgrown horror films, that one still remains the scariest one I've ever seen, and even the sequel is just as frightening. I never knew it was based a true (?) story! I don't know how you can sleep there but thanks for sharing!
@@民草1 No, Scottish whisky is never whiskey which signifies to us Scots that it is a spirit drink from Ireland, Japan or any other country outside of Scotland. The translation of your first remark says ‘whiskey’ using an ‘e’. My comment was to say the any Scottish ‘whisky’ is spelled without the ‘e’. Sorry for any confusion. 😊

Wow, I admire your courage! 😮 I've never heard of the Sawney Bean story before, so you introduced me to somethimg new!
@@jackwatsonepic626 yes! The rock is what did it for me. And the beach. Absolutely terrifying 😵
I’ve subbed you now 😂 can’t believe or understand why you do these camps solo? So brave . They make em tough in Scotland ❤ and I love the content. You’ seem like a lovely lady , very genuine .
Staying in a cave is a hard no for us. Lol. That bird scared me…and I’m viewing from the comfort of home. Fun video and glad all was well.
A hard no 😂😂
You are very brave! I love all the stories about the past, so I knew the story of the Beans and their cave. This made the overnighter even more exciting for me! Thank you so much.
Thank you so much!
That was a great Lidl video, Ruth. You have a taste for adventure. Well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are so brave! I admire your tolerance for creepy places and that you find humor in the scariness.
Well done Ruth, I could see a notable change in your attitude the more sips of whisky you took.😂😂😂. I can't wait to see the next daredevil video.
Probably the most fearless person ever lived. U make me feel small, lady. Good video, btw. Looking forward to see more videos from you.
Thank you for your support and thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I am a massive fan of ASMR it's helped me through my anxiety and insomnia for many years Xx
It’s great! ❤
Thank you!
Enjoyed watching you in the cave. Very brave woman. I'm sure that whiskey helped! You inspire me. Well done and thanks for posting such interesting content. A joy to watch.
The tunnel is too narrow, Ruth. Be very careful.
People have gotten indefinitely stuck in caves!!
Great video, my Scottish Sis!
Blessings
Thanks for sharing!
Do you ever question your life choices when you could be reviewing 5 star luxury hotels ? ! Fair play to you - I couldnt have done it ! "If you choose to visit this cave" ! Great video as always
Another wonderful video Ruth. Ideas n content is excellent. Always feel really proud of our scottish vlogger. 💙
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video, you are very brave! I don't know why but your videos are always very cosy to me. Love it! 😀
Glad you like them!
I was so bloody anxious watching this Ruth. One word- Troglodytes. But your courage was inspiring and your wee tipple hilarious 🤣💖
Thank you so much!
Ruth, you are so brave!
Great video. Sawney Bean was depicted in his cave in wax in the old London Dungeon, it was one of my favourite exhibits there.
Thanks for the info!
This is interesting! My husband grew up on a road named “Sawnee Bean Road” in Vermont, USA 🇺🇸. I always assumed it had been named by a native tribe from the area- now I’ll have to find out more about it! 😊
That is such an interesting fact! I’ll have to find out more. Thanks for sharing 👍
Maybe a relative of Sawney escaped and moved to Vermont 😂
@@ruthaisling I’m certain they must’ve!!! ☠️💀☠️
Another very entertaining video Ruth 👍 You are certainly a very adventurous and brave woman! After a night in a cave I definitely would not look anywhere as good as you in the morning 😉 Looking forward to your next adventure. Andy
Thanks Andy 👍
I am planning to go to Shetland in January for Up helly aa. Did you stay in Lerwick when you went to Shetland?
This is one of the most fun camping videos I have ever seen! I totally understand creeping oneself out; glad the whiskey calmed you, lol. Thanks for sharing your adventure.
Thanks so much!
Cave girl. Wow! 😊
Great video Ruth! You are brave to stay in a cave yourself. Looking forward to your next adventure. All the best. 🏴
Thanks so much! 😊
Glad you are getting on ok with your jetboil stash!
WOW!! RUTH! You achieved your goal; you're amazing!!
Such a brave, Scottish woman!! Strong!!
God bless you!!
Haha thanks! ❤
Very brave Ruth quite a spooky thing to do on your own especially with that story 👍,
Yes it was 😮
I love watching your videos Ruth, gives me so much courage to travel alone 💗
I'm so glad!
A good video Ruth but I do get worried about you doing these activities on your own but I do admire you for doing these activities to get content for your videos.
Well done Ruth. Very brave and what a bizarre story. Knowing its history makes it even more errie.
Very bizarre story!
Omg my anxiety watching this!!!!!! You are extremely brave Ruth
Haha I was a bit anxious being there too!
Love a hot dinner!!
this was very scary I doubt id even go in the cave in daylight let alone spend the night, congrats on almost 100k subs. towards the end I think you got a bit merry with those whisky shots 😊
😂 thank you!
Fair play for doing this overnighter 😳 If you do any more haunted/cursed nights out, I'd recommend taking a friend who has an endless supply of blood chilling ghost stories 😂😂
😂 I might do!
She did
Very brave of you! Very impressive! 🫵😎👍
Thank you very much!
Hello Ruth. I think I would have taken a larger bottle of whisky with me. I have been in a cave house in Spain and it was cool but dry. Old Sawney Beans cave definitely was not as comfortable. I read about him and his incestious family many years ago, he certainly wasn’t a typical friendly Scot. Slainte!
He sounds a bit strange 😂
@@ruthaisling To put it mildly ...
Well done Ruth, you are one brave girl. I would be scared visiting there during the day with one or two others. Watching lots of scary movies doesnt help! I really enjoy your videos. And you're absolutely right, whisky is the best drink ever 🥃
Haha thank you 😊
I’ve got a 30 year old Trangia stove. They have kettle, pots and frying pan included in the package. I have the gas burner which is an extra.
I didn’t really see any bugs here
@@ruthaisling Thanks for the reply. Do stay safe.
Ruth, you are one very brave human being. Thank you for sharing your daring adventure with us because l can’t do brave things like that any more. Much admiration and respect to you. 🙏🏼🇦🇺💕
In mid summer in the highlands it never gets dark, just dusk for about 3/4 hours. You can walk around without a torch.
Love it! ❤
I’m glad you found the channel and I hope you enjoy following my travels! 🙏
Ruthさんは本当に怖いもの知らずですね。
日本での大型バスの運転も、見ていてヒヤヒヤしました。
Ruthさんには、ウイスキーが🥃つきものなので、どんな銘柄か気になります。
今回もありがとう。
They are Scottish brands so they are whisky spelled the Scottish way NOT whiskey.
@@aliciarobertson4979 意味不明ですがNOT ウイスキーなのかな?
@@民草1
No, Scottish whisky is never whiskey which signifies to us Scots that it is a spirit drink from Ireland, Japan or any other country outside of Scotland. The translation of your first remark says ‘whiskey’ using an ‘e’. My comment was to say the any Scottish ‘whisky’ is spelled without the ‘e’. Sorry for any confusion. 😊

Oh my, whatever next Ruth. You are soo brave and love sharing your adventures. Take care lovely 😍
Next video is a bit more calm 😂
You do have an adventurous spirit.👍
Bet she's great in the sack. 😅😅
Yer awesome Ruth. Closed cell foam Matt's are better. Few giggles had. I would enjoy touring various locations with ya. Take care .💯👊
I’ll check out those mats 😂
Great going.. loved and liked your videos...
Thanks for watching the videos!
@@ruthaisling ❤️ from India
Oh my days I was so worried about you, I’d never go into a dark cave at night by myself, especially near the sea.
I remember saying a similar thing when you were in the Bothy
You’re very brave,I’ve completely given up doing things out of my comfort zone
I now only do things that make me happy
Another great video
Doing things that make you feel happy sounds good too!
@@ruthaisling as they say “Seek Discomfort “. That’s when you feel alive !
@@ruthaisling What is even more scary Ruth, is that in some of these caves by the sea, the cave fills with water at high tide. In which case you have to swim out before the cave fills to the top.
@@ruthaislingYou are one gutsy lassie Ruth!
@@scottie2636 yes it’s true but I live near the cave and know people who have been and knew this cave doesn’t fill with water
Your Scotland adventure is getting more and more exciting... ruth i love you
Not sure if I am the only one who first learned of Sawney Bean from of all things a Phantom comic! For those who are not aware The Phantom is very popular comic in Australia have seen people of all ages buy and read them on trains in hospitals etc But Sawney's clan were a terrible group. really enjoyed the presentation
I didn’t know about that comic. Thanks 👍
'Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?'
Yes, the Shadow, not the Phantom. But it seemed appropriate
I really admire your bravery, what a fantastic video!!
Thank you so much!
