The fact that they stopped offering an automatic was a major killer for the past few years, and with them pairing with CVT's rather than bumping to 6 speed autos wasnt logical with people not wanting to spend the money on premium fuel, especially now that the 6 cylinder no longer requires the good stuff
I think you're splitting hairs... the scoop does direct air flow through the intercooler. The intercooler itself doesn't USE air like an intake, but it uses it to dissipate heat. He never said the intercooler "sucks air in."
It's a button located to the left and down from stearing wheel with the buttons for staibility control, trunk opening, and side mirror positions. As opposed to a lever. So, no yanking the e-brake here lol. It's abummer sometimes, but for a more 'grown' daily driver, it makes sense
I have an LGT and I agree. But one thing I'll add though. My wife works for hertz so I get a chance to look at a lot of similar cars like Mazda 6, camry, altima, maxima, fusions, lancers, jettas, passats, and plenty more. Material, and actual finish (like double stitching) aside, the design is cleaner to me in the legacy. Vents, radio controls, climate controls, etc, tend to look like Add-ons to a dash design in the other cars. In LGT, it all fits like it was designed together. yes, opinion.
Actually the turbo helps on fuel economy. My dad has a regular legacy and on my GT I get the same mpg or even better. Of course mine is stick and his auto.
If I had to guess it's only by computer. In the 2010, wastegate is held open by computer in 1st gear until a little later, and same in second, but it closes sooner for second gear. Throttle is also limited at 89% with floored pedal. Both probably for fuel efficiency and such. Remapping you easily go from 211 to 223 WHP. That being said, those particular features may have been tinkered some more for 2011, but porbably overcome the same way with a simple ECU flash.
Fantastic review, great to see this car get some more press. I would have to say that the 05-09 Legacy GT was a superior car for driving reasons. It was smaller, lighter, had a handbrake and was built for driving enjoyment. The 2011 is kinda bloated to snag some Camry/Accord customers, although the interior refinement is a welcome change as well
Yes they do have heated mirrors. And I'm pretty sure it's not a standard feature as you said it's part of all weather package. Reason I'm sure you're right is because I was looking up collapsable side mirrors at the dealership and there were two part numbers, one with heated, the other non-heated. However, this could also be because it's the same mirror for all trims, not just the GT, so still might be 'standard' for GT.
yes, SIGNIFICANT difference when not used. Like 2 1/2 miles to the gallon difference, which can pretty muich be a whole gallon of fuel wasted. I did drop a K&N air filter for the convinience not expecting much return from it, but it seems to genuinely have boosted my mileage but a mile with typical driving and almost 2 1/2 grandma driving it on highways. I'm not sure how this worked out exactly but it did.
I agree. My Jetta that I traded in for LGT had way better finish. The actual design and placement of things however, I've grown to appreciate more after driving several different cars, foreign and domestic. Wife works for Hertz. So, aside from the finish or material quality, the actual design I've come to like more. The vents, radio controls, buttons, climate controls, and all that seem like addons, or afterthoughts in many cars in the same class. LGT looks designed together, more streamlined
yeah...very much opinion man. If I could drop the sonata interior design in my LGT, I definitely would. It's WAY better finished than the cheap plastics used. Aside fromt he sonata though, I get to check out and drive a lot of different 'common folk' cars. My wife runs a Hertz location, so I try things like camry, maxima, altima, civics, accords and VW. While the materials are in question, the actual design of mt LGT interior comes GREATLY appreciated.
I don't dig the plastic dash quality but it I like the layout a lot. I have to say the best quality interior finish I had was a 2005.5 (yes, mid year change) Jetta. EVERYTHING double stitched, firm, sound dampened, etc. I really like the sonata interior too, and which I could slap it in my LGT
I guess I wasn't thinking about the GT, It is standard with the GT as they only came in limited trims after 2010 I believe. They were pretty much loaded and the only option was the navigation system.
umm to be honest i did not find the legacy interior to be all that expensive feeling compared to say a passat or even a cheaper Golf. i would best describe Subaru interiors as tough or functional
@monkeyman8644 Yea we thought about the WRX...a few grand cheaper than the Legacy and faster to 60 with basically the same engine. We're working trying to set-up a three way review with the WRX, Legacy 2.5GT and STI. Please stay tuned.
It definitely look nice, I won't argue with that. It looks like it is soft touch on the dash and looks quality but it really isn't. I like the design of the interior, it is clean and elegant looking I must agree. Yeah I noticed that everything was fit together rather well too, and that fake aluminum stuff is rather deceiving as well. All and all it looks nice, just wish they added more niceties like they did on the Impreza, that car has the nicer interior in some ways.
Legacy wins. I own legacy, and want a Sonata (additionally, not to replace), so me and wife test drove a turbo sonata. I still want the sonata but I doubt I'll be getting one(need truck). Interior is nicer in Sonata (opinion of course). Anyway, as for head to head... Sonata had more noticeable turbo lag, but when the power comes it's VERY nice and torquey. FWD kills it though off the line though. Torque steer is pretty bad. Rolling it does well, but legacy pulls away still, but not horribly.
I assume you got the wussy cvt, the manual base 2.5 legacy only gets 1 mpg better overall than the GT. If the GT had an awful cvt hooked to it , it would be almost the same
Not really, the interior room is WAY bigger. I'm a pretty tall person and I can have an equally tall person sit behind me with plenty of leg room. Can't do that in a WRX...wider too. This is a fat guy's car lol. I slid a lot in the seat when I first got it. 2 years later it's subtly broken in so I don't slide as much haha
It feels cheap, not going to lie. I love sonata interior, and envy it, I miss the FINISH of my VW, but the actual design of legacy interior I greatly appreciate. It's slick, and things fit well. Wife works for hertz so I get to closely compare a lot, and what I find is that a lot of cars look like they had a dash, then added the vents, radio, A/C controls and such. The legacy seems like everything was made as one, no after thoughts.
If you are under 25, I wouldnt recommend it, Im 22 and just got my first Suby (an 09 2.5I SE) a few months ago, the Naturally aspirated 2.5 has plenty of power for a new driver. If you want the extra power bump to the 3.0 flat 6, strictly because you wont have Turbo written in the vehicle info as a new driver, and if it has 90K+ on it have it very thoroughly inspected, otherwise plan on spending 16-18 on one
Wyatt C great car, I have a 2007 Legacy gt Limited and it’s my favorite car I’ve ever owned. They have a lot of modding capability, I have some stuff done to mine
Thickness and even patterns of plastic is not a matter of opinion. Neither is soft touch plastic vs hard plastic. Or grades of leather. Better material is better material. How it all looks is opinion.
I don't know about longest lasting. I still think honda owns that claim. Plenty of CRX's running around lol. 89's at that. Not saying Subaru's odn't last, just that I don't think they get to claim 'longest lasting'
why did u spend the entire video comparing it to the other car? that was a complete waste of time....they are two different cars aimed at different audiences...wtf?
The hood scoop doesn't feed air to the engine for combustion, it forces air through the intercooler. Get your facts straight before making a review. Do you even know what an intercooler is???
@minibus1351 Interior design I give you...but quality wise...umm I don't think so. Suburu uses better materials then honda or toyota these days, it's just designed so badly, you wouldn't notice it. Then again, mitsu is using better materials then the 12 civic...so I guess that bar is pretty low. And hyundai is using some freaking top notch materials for their cars these days, like top of the class in many cases top notch. Ford is also good...but you said american and dodge interiors are a joke.
@yamenad i can see that you are trying to defend your car with other people, thus you are biased to start with. Subarus are not exactly known for interior quality or design man. Even a toyota, hyundai or an American car has a better quality than a Subaru.
I caught that too. What an f'n DOLT lol. I think he's under the impression that the hood scoop is for intake...."Gee... wonder what that radiator looking thing is on top...must be the air conditioning condensor" lol....
why do all subarus have a crappy interior? It's all hard silver plastic. The exterior is equally boring. I really like the brand Subaru but they need a design overhaul asap, or they will not be able to compete.
Not faster cars with AWD. Interior is cheap for a reason. To keep the cost down to compete with camrys, accords, altima/maxima, and the sort who ALL have less drivetrain to be proud about. It's a grocery getter dummy, not a fucking ricer boy toy.
Coming back in 2022 since I'm considering buying this exact car. Great review and really holds up.
did u buy it ?
Don't know why all their Subaru videos have so many dislikes. They really have good content for a for minute review. Keep it up guys!
Pronounced boxer as boxTer.
This music could NOT be any worse.
@blueorangelettuce Thanks for the nice comments!
The fact that they stopped offering an automatic was a major killer for the past few years, and with them pairing with CVT's rather than bumping to 6 speed autos wasnt logical with people not wanting to spend the money on premium fuel, especially now that the 6 cylinder no longer requires the good stuff
there is no sucking involved, it just blows over the top to cool the intercooler
the electronic hand brake helps stops users from wrecking the center diff because it does not disengage when the handbrak is pulled like the sti
I think you're splitting hairs... the scoop does direct air flow through the intercooler. The intercooler itself doesn't USE air like an intake, but it uses it to dissipate heat. He never said the intercooler "sucks air in."

I'm sure somebody has already said this but, wouldn't you compare this to the wrx not the wrx sti?...
Yea I am not quite sure why he tried to compare it to a STI. Two totally different machines.
Good review. We could only wish that all reviewers were more like this. Everyday driver should take some notes.
Actually the turbo helps on fuel economy. My dad has a regular legacy and on my GT I get the same mpg or even better. Of course mine is stick and his auto.

@andhuy We try to entertain and inform. We bet you'll have no problem finding plenty of informative reviews online
I agree. My Jetta that I traded in for LGT had way better finish. god the 2012 passat looks so much more refined/elegant/timeless/sophisticated
yeah...very much opinion man. If I could drop the sonata interior design in my LGT, I definitely would. It's WAY better finished than the cheap plastics used. Boxer engine not "boxter."
@ 1:25 He says Boxter engine.
this guy is romanian give him time lol
@maseratiquattroport 18 City and 25 Highway according to the EPA. I got 22 driving it pretty hard.
But Premium is more energy dense and turbos help efficiency at lower boost.
The Lance Armstrong vs Mary Poppins comparison takes a totally new meaning now...
How does this car stack up to the Legacy 3.6R? The 3.6R has a more rear biased AWD so I was wondering if that has an affect on the driving feel.
umm to be honest i did not find the legacy interior to be all that expensive feeling compared to say a passat or even a cheaper Golf. i would best describe Subaru interiors as tough or functional
well if you think the 6Mspeed is bad you should try the 5AT, i sadly have it in my 07 gt and its a shame because overall its a good car
@romanmicagearguy But don't you have to use premium?
@monkeyman8644 Yea we thought about the WRX...a few grand cheaper than the Legacy and faster to 60 with basically the same engine. We're working trying to set-up a three way review with the WRX, Legacy 2.5GT and STI. Please stay tuned.
Why are you comparing it to the STI? The Legacy GT is just a bigger WRX.
It definitely look nice, I won't argue with that. It looks like it is soft touch on the dash and looks quality but it really isn't. Sweet review... as always.

The turbos in these older cars require an idling/cool down time. 05+ are all great years. Have driven 05 Lgt and 08 lgt.
talltomrich1 I have a 2007 Legacy gt and I love that car. I actually made a review about it
@yamenad well quality to me isnt what its made of but how long it will last and subarus last a very long time i will have to say longest lasting.
Got 2010 lgt stage 1 Cobb. Very ballsy car. For somebody who won't pay for a BMW or an infinity it's a great option.
So did it go boom yet?
@@GreatGrandmasterWang Nope. Still have it, only 77k miles on it and runs like a champ.
Does this car come with the Brembo brakes from the STi?
I assume you got the wussy cvt, the manual base 2.5 legacy only gets 1 mpg better overall than the GT. If the GT had an awful cvt hooked to it , it would be almost the same

Nice review.. I own a 07 Legacy gt stage 2(luv it).. I would love to see a a comparo between the 3...

Lmao. I have a spec b. It isn't that much power. Im young and its a sharp car.
Great Reviews ! :)
its closer to a WRX than an STI
+Daniel Smith i think better with proper tuning
Waaaaait a second.. what exactly did he say between 1:50 and 1:55 ?
I want an older model LGT for my first car thinking around a 05, any suggestions?
Wyatt C great car, I have a 2007 Legacy gt Limited and it’s my favorite car I’ve ever owned. They have a lot of modding capability, I have some stuff done to mine
a turbocharged 2.5 liter engine with only 265hp is not alot for an engine this capacity
what about the hyundai sonata 2.0T, i'd like to see those 2 race head to head :)
@romanmicagearguy but the legacy is way better as a daily driver quieter better seats more rooms and to me looks better
@romanmicagearguy If you only had a handbrake you would have destroyed the center diff. Glad you didn't.
Thickness and even patterns of plastic is not a matter of opinion. Neither is soft touch plastic vs hard plastic. Or grades of leather. Better material is better material. How it all looks is opinion.
What is the name of the song in the end. I like that song
no, but the hood scoop sucks air FOR the intercooler, which is what he was referring to
Does this car require 98 octane?
What about this interior feels expensive? The whole dash is hard plastic.
No but its a plus if u have one :)
"Boxter engine". Dear lord...
what567 boxer not boxer😂 it's an h4
I don't know about longest lasting. I still think honda owns that claim. Plenty of CRX's running around lol. 89's at that. Not saying Subaru's odn't last, just that I don't think they get to claim 'longest lasting'

Great car, bad review.
The hood scoop doesn't feed air to the engine for combustion, it forces air through the intercooler. Get your facts straight before making a review. Do you even know what an intercooler is???
This video was more in showing his face than a review of the car,..”Regular handbrake”? Show that in the video,..
uh yeah, it's plastic. I own one. Doors are half, with the opper being a softer material, but the dash and trim and pillars are all plastic
@minibus1351 Interior design I give you...but quality wise...umm I don't think so. Suburu uses better materials then honda or toyota these days, it's just designed so badly, you wouldn't notice it. Nice car, pity it doesn't sell as well as it should !!!
No tipical boxer engine sound
I caught that too. What an f'n DOLT lol. I think he's under the impression that the hood scoop is for intake...."Gee... wonder what that radiator looking thing is on top...must be the air conditioning condensor" lol....

keep doing subaru:D

Got one. It rocks!!!
Wow an inter cooler isn't for sucking air in .. This guy shouldn't even be in this Subaru...
huh boy dont talk bout handbreak whn ur having midlife crisis
Hey Roman thanx for the awesome review. Loving the lame men's terms lol.
@9mmforever LOL That's what i said
Nice car, owe 2011 Legacy base, will go bankrupt on gas with GT
you barely drove the car and please quit the cheap bad jokes
