Yes I am taking a low dose of Amitriptyline, Citalalopram and Progrsterone . I am also doing Biote hormone pelleting that is estrogen and testosterone. Will these effect my Armour Thyroid medication? I am constantly gaining weight and not doing better. Been battling for 4 years now. Please advise.....

They have no time to read notes...albeit on screen...the right hand doesn't know what the left is doing. The older doctors are retiring with all their knowledge....so what a lucky person you are indeed!

After listening to the last section about the acid blockers, I am totally done with my family med. primary doctor. I have been on Gerd medicine since 2000. I have asked him many times when can I expect to get off it and he says that it is a necessary medication that I need to take in order to help me with my hernia. I recently changed my OBGYN doctor to a DO doctor and he told me if I were to have the hernia surgery I would not have to take the Gerd medicine anymore. The surgery would fix the acid reflux. After all this time, why did my primary doctor not tell me that? 🤬 He also said nothing about the mineral and vitamin deficiencies I would develop from taking that medicine. This is the same doctor I had to argue with just to get tested for D3 and find out that my level was 1/4 of normal. He refuses to test for anything else. I also take Gabapentin since 2014 for a spine injury and he never told me anything about it causing swelling. My right leg has been getting bigger and bigger all this time. And when I brought up the issue with him a week after I was released from the hospital last month, because I couldn't breathe from the fluid in my chest, he said that he did not see anywhere that said it causes swelling. I was tested I did not have CHF, covid, a clot or anything else wrong with my heart. And it wasn't my sugar because my A1C is 5.9. It's like anything that I bring up is wrong and because hes the doctor he knows everything and is always right! I'm now worried that symptoms I have been experiencing may in fact have been side effects from these 2 medications. And I seriously don't think he has even read my chart to see my radioactive iodine treatment in 1989. I think this man is solely in the pharmaceutical representatives back pocket.
I have an appointment to see a new Internist who is also a DO.

I have had horrible acid reflux fir a long time. I got off the esomeprazole. I started drinking a tall glass of ice water with a tablespoon Apple Cider Vinger (Braggs ACV). I cut out all the garbage foods too. I don't have an issue with reflux if I do thus daily. Also I found that eating a couple spoons full of sour kraft does the same thing. It's amazing. I was constanting belching and food would come up into my throat sometimes. This has been amazing and don't take the prescription anymore.

As a hashimotos pateint Ive been prescribed levothyoxine for msny years but during the menopause I took an over the counter soya based menopause medication for support and this badly affected and lowered my thyroid levels and became chronically fatigued.. I found out the hard way that soya consumption can reduce T4 levels. Note it is not only prescription medications that can have a negative effect on thyroid conditions. My doctor was not aware of this connection!

Read the instructions for use before taking any medication. I take levothyoxine for almost 20 years now and it’s in the instructions.
My MD and chemist also told me what not to eat or take in combi with it and what is important, when to take it (I take it before going bed at night as you’re not aloud eat or drink for at least two hours). These days it’s very easy to check all this on hospital sites. Wouldn’t trust all these so called ‘doctors’ on TH-cam.

I know it took me five years to figure out. It's the coffee with the meds.
Any time I have had coffee before surgury. It actually put me to sleep. So, I had no need for coffee before having had the surgery. I was naturally very active physically. Could do a billion things at one time. Today I can't do that. I'm lucky if I can get the one thing done.

This is why when you start one medication, unless it's an antibiotic you take that one which can trigger the need if a doctor uses the prescription pad, then you may end up taking a slew of medicine when the original problem could have been treated a much better way than big pharma in the beginning.

I was told when first diagnosed with hypothyroidism and prescribed Synthroid my dr told me to take it first thing in the morning and wait 45 minutes to an hour before eating or having coffee. I am on hydrocodone for pain but only take 1 at night. This you tube presentation is very interesting. My daughter is bi-polar and has had hypothyroidism for years so it's concerning that her Synthroid is being canceled out by her meds. She's fatigued all of the time and also deals with much pain.

Always love your in-depth look at thyroid in connection with all the moving parts of diet and life that are overlooked. My problem is with being ADD/Au (late diagnosed) and taking those meds in connection with depression I’m in and my thyroid. I have yet to find an endo and/or psychiatrist versed in this functional side of taking thyroid in consideration first and the right meds for thyroid issues. I was Hashimotos since diagnosed at 30, but over past 9 months things have been in influx and I’m now Hyperthyroid….I am at a huge burnout and would love to know the thyroid gold standard for ADD and depression meds, instead of being pushed the antidepressant gold standard theories that 1) were focused on male treatment as base point and never take into consideration female needs 2.)all mood and hormone start with thyroid/ adrenals, vitamin deficiencies and gut-brain axis, but antidepressants start there- they purposely jump the system. I am also thinking k treatment is a good option, and wondered thoughts/studies on that in relation to thyroid function/health. So appreciative for any guidance that come my way. ❤

I had a multi nodular goiter attached to my thyroid. After having it and the thyroid gland removed, I was told to go get blood work. I did, and my Dr kept getting mad at me because my levels were never where he wanted them, in order to prescribe synthroid and at what dose. I'm fine! I think it was allowed to balance itself out while I was pregnant and extremely sick, nauseas the entire time. I spilled key tones(?), had several IV bags before I could go home, and even had a reglan pump in my leg AND an IV pole and bag to drag around my Gramma's house for a week. It was rough. But that is when the Drs found the lumps. Since then,mi have had zero issues. 🧡🙏

I’ve been on sodium valproate 1000mg and pristiq 200mg per day for 17 years. I finally found a doctor who is helping me get off these medications. I no longer have the problems in my life, that brought about the diagnosis- that I had chronic depression and bipolar. My ability to function has improved and I am now without any of the symptoms and the problems that were present at that time, they have disappeared from my life. When I had a blood test, it showed that my thyroid was under functioning. I was then sent for the antibody blood test and my thyroid was normal again. I asked how this could be and the doctor said it must have been a glitch! I’d say that it was a miracle!

Stopped BP and thyroid meds for a few years and Dr finally put him back on due to being too high. Thyroid had checked out fine for 10 years and now within a couple years of being back on bp meds, had to go on thyroid meds again. He hates it. And still feels like crap most of the time. Used to have endless energy and now some days resorts to an energy drink so he can work and get things done. Thyroid meds aren't helping. I was taking carvedilol which I have been taken off off because of my BP being completely unstable now. It goes up and down pretty low sometimes but I have a massive ulcer which has bled through several times and am taking sucralfate and pantoprazole which was only supposed to be for 4 months but here I am a year later. I've been intubated two times due to blood loss from the ulcers. I had weight loss surgery and the ulcer is on the surgical site where my esophagus and new stomach are fused together. My thyroid levels are extremely low and my hair is almost gone! I used to have the thickest hair. I'm on depression medicine and anxiety medication. I have 100% occlusion to my RCA. I've had two catherizations unsuccessful and no Dr./surgical team want to attempt to fix me. 🥺 I'm receiving iron infusions but that's it. I'm weak, malnutrition and constantly falling with no strength to get myself up. I'm only 46 and have been told there's nothing more that can be done to help me. I'm told major surgery will come if the ulcer finishes eating through my stomach wall which it's not far from happening. As for my blocked artery they pretty much say the same. My body did form a passage on it's own for blood to flow to my heart through a small vein or vessel and is doing ok as long as I do nothing. I'm miserable. I'm not the sit still kind of person. I just wish there was something that could be done to fix me. I have 5 kids ages 8 to 29 and I can't fathom leaving them on this earth so early in life. I've had to start preparing my oldest daughter and she doesn't want to hear it. 😭 I had no idea these meds would impact my thyroid but now see the time frame for the drop in thyroid function and being put on the medications being very close. I'm not sure stopping them would help me at this point.

Metformin is a different name of Glucophage and I don’t know if I spelled that correctly. Anyway, I looked it up and when questions are asked online about this medicine, indirect answers are mostly given. Supposedly given to help ‘control blood sugar,’ it’s name actually means ‘sugar eater.’ This prescription harms the liver (serious diarrhea) and kidneys (which makes sense, because the kidneys are supposedly damaged on a long term meat-only diet).

Started medication for underactive thyroid. In my late 20's I started taking propranolol for irregular heart rhythm, likely caused by my thyroid not balanced. In my 40's I started taking daily pantoloc for acid reflux. No diet options given. For years I have not been able to lose weight. I do not yoyo in weight. Just stay the same for years. I now take a low dose high blood pressure pill. Metabolism is low. Heart rate is low. I am moderately active. Eat poorly. But not a junk food eater. Very few calories. 500 to 800 per day. Lack of appetite.

Please continue to use your platform to educate and I seriously believe that the information you are providing is not only helping patients, but other doctors and nurses as well. Question: I got subacute thyroiditis almost a year ago, my thyroid was in a hyperactive state then later became hypoactive. My doctors were contributing to watch my thyroid labs hoping to have them level out eventually. Recently I had an unusual thing happen. I had SIBO, was prescribed Xifaxan and neomycin for 2 weeks, I finished that then got a tick bite and took a one time loading dose of doxycycline. As a side note I have a history of c-diff 18 years ago but my gut has been fragile ever since. I have microscopic colitis and I was instructed to take a course of budesonide for the colitis. I had waited a few days after the SIBO treatment and doxy then started the first day of taking the budesonide, that day I also took adderall because I have ADHD. Later that same day I felt like I was getting sick. I felt irritable, nauseated, no appetite, my Apple Watch was alerting me for high heart rate while resting (even sleeping) I was extremely tired (absolutely no energy) and chilled/cold. My previous TSH was about size. When I went to the endocrinologist 2 days after that episode of feeling sick after taking budesonide and adderall, my TSH was 2 ish. Later that day I was admitted to hospital for a critical low potassium and I had a non conclusive questionable positive cdiff (+PCR/-toxin). I had my TSH recheck upon admission to hospital )same day as previous TSH of 2ish, this time my TSH was 6ish. Do you see that much of a fluctuation in TSH in one day? Could the budesonide (glucocorticoid) plus adderall (indirect dopamine agonist) cause such a decrease in TSH? I winks be interested in hearing your feedback. Thank you!

Does metformin being bad for thyroid mean that berberine is harmful too?

    • @notsogreen
      @notsogreen ปีที่แล้ว

From what I have read, Metformin lowers TSH, but this is a falsely lower result. So if docs only look at TSH they may be mistaken if they think the result is true, (and not lowered because of Metformin)
They may lower the patient's thyroid dose or not think the patient is hypo or becoming hypo.
In my opinion, T4 & T3, or FT4 & FT3 should also be done for more revealing results when on Metformin.
Also, Biotin, a B vitamin, is used by labs to test for TSH (and lots of other hormone tests). Taking Biotin will also give falsely lowered TSH. Doctors have been made aware of this for decades, but many do not ask their patients to stop taking Biotin (also in B complex) or if the patient has taken Biotin in the days preceding the TSH test.

It only leads me to question a doctors abilities of what it means to be a vigilant doctor. Doctors should know what and WHAT NOT to prescribe to a thyroid patient. I have had many problems in the past with doctors who have poor medical knowledge. NOW I find I have to question them at every turn. I'm losing my faith in mainstream docfors. I now have to rely on TH-cam to research my fathers physicians, and their knowledge to do the RIGHT thing w/ out putting my fathers health in jeopardy. Even his cardiologist pushed him to take baby aspirin every day. He developed internal bleeding from that. Baby aspirin should NOT be taken every day, only about twice a week because it stays in the system for a prolonged amount of time. So that's what a cardiologist stupidity did. I quit caffeine 100% not even chocolate or decaf of any kind. My lifelong anxiety disappeared, but it took 3 months to lose the effects of the caffeine I had before.

Hmm...and why is it that doctors do not know this?? Or a pharmacist?
Mind boggling. 🧐 And try to 'educate' your doctor, you get accused of having a Google medical degree.

I am on cymbalta (20 years) for fibromyalgia and depression. Been on Levo for many years. Seems it’s unknown by most doctors that it’s almost impossible to get of cymbalta without in patient care! I don’t think I need it but can’t stop it! Could you address this? Thank you!

I'm on two of these. Methadone for a very good reason, and Zoloft for depression. I wish I could simply switch the pain meds to CBD but that is laughable as far as effectiveness. I love CBD and its possibilities don't get me wrong.

CBD made the difference for me being at 8 pain scale to zero!! But be aware that CBD products are insanely different. I make my own!

All doctors should google what medications affect blood sugar and thyroid as medication websites list it. Public knowledge now. But often doctors don’t warn about it. They never check. Sometimes can just space the medications further apart.
