Using T3 Thyroid Medication To Feel 100% Again | Dr. Westin Childs & Paul Robinson

  • In this video, I interview Paul Robinson. Paul is a thyroid patient advocate and the author of 3 books on thyroid including Recovering with T3, the Thyroid Patients Manuel, and CT3M Handbook.
    The key takeaway here is that you do NOT have to continue to suffer as a thyroid patient. Paul has successfully used T3 thyroid medication to recover his health back to 100% and has helped over 1,000 thyroid patients do the same over the last several years.
    T3 is the most important thyroid hormone in the body and it can be used to both treat and manage thyroid symptoms in the short term and long term.
    Links to Paul's books and website:
    Recovering with T3: www.amazon.com...
    Thyroid Patients Manuel: www.amazon.com...
    CT3M Handbook: www.amazon.com...
    Paul's Website: paulrobinsonth...
    In this video, you will learn how Paul was able to recover back to 100% using T3 only thyroid medication, how to tell if you should be taking T3 thyroid medicine as a thyroid patient, the average dose that most people need to feel better, potential side effects of T3 thyroid medication and whether or not its dangerous, how to evaluate your thyroid lab tests while using T3, whether or not a suppressed TSH is dangerous, and much more.
    Paul provides a wealth of knowledge that will help pretty much any thyroid patient.

      Where are you located Shelley? I am in New York City, have been on Levothyroxine for 11 years now, .88 mcg, have gained 50 lbs, feel exhausted, terrible, just assumed that was my only option. It's only in the last few months I have been educating myself and heard about Cytomel! I ran to my Endocrinologist in March and asked him to put me on it, and he gave me all the ridiculous reason to not go on it, re heart problems, it's only for people who have had Thyroid cancer, it's too strong, blahs blahs Blah. That’s a disgrace to treat a patient out of ignorance. This doctor should have developed a relationship with you and have known that you once were a very good athlete.
      Hormones and how they transport to our cells, organs are not well studied especially in the conventional medicine world. My very intelligent PCP told me this during our first visit. I see a naturopath ND for my hormone replacement therapy.
      What studies that are chosen to put into the medical journals depend on a lot of factors. There’re many factual studies that are left out. Doctors that are not open to look beyond should be avoided.
      Nutrients, good gut health to absorb them and help transport the hormones to the cells is poorly not understood by many doctors. To find your best dose of hormones to bring your thyroid levels is not black and white.
      Stay away from these ignorant doctors and find a good open minded doctor. Usually they’ll be functional, intregrative or Naturopathic ND ( stay away from those who graduated from Bastyr or be very careful in selecting)
      I can make a recommendation if you’re interested?

    Love this interview! Gives hope to those that have been stuck in a holding pattern of feeling terrible because lab values are “within range”. We are being told our symptoms can’t possibly be your thyroid. To make matters worse, we are held captive by insurance companies that limit which prescribers you can see without paying 100% out of pocket. Unfortunately, I would bet most endocrinologists and GP’s would dismiss this thinking as radical.

Looking back, I wish I would have made major changes to my diet and lifestyle because once you get on these meds, you never get off of them. I for one do not like the entrapment I feel by having to see a doctor. If you get one that you have to pay 100% out of pocket, which I have now, it costs a small fortune and then they blackmail you into buying their useless supplements plus have tons of other tests done so that they can search for other things that they want to "treat." It is all a big scam.

    I was put on Levothyroxine 20 years ago because I was SO tired all the time and couldn't even summon up an idea in my head without great effort. When I finally asked that about Armour Thyroid, my doctor completely dismissed it. He told me that it was too difficult to measure the effectiveness of it. I continued to put up with it for over a decade and then demanded a T3 and T4 test. He finally put me on a very low dosage of T3. It gave me an immediate boost, but he also kept me on Levothyroxine. Now that I am 72 years old, my doctor just believes I am tired from old age and disability. I know deep down inside that is NOT true! Why won't they LISTEN????

I know that historically, my T3 has been low, but at 80, I find I forget things like that. Didn’t remember this until I saw the video where you talked about the complete panel. Now we will see. I am exhausted constantly, but I have had COVID 6 times, and now have long COVID, so don’t know how much of the exhaustion is from long COVID. I really hope part of it is thyroid related.

    absolutely wonderful discussion, couldn't agree more with every point! Took many more than a decade to FINALLY get tested for antibodies, 3 endo's later got onto Tirsint which helped...some, added liothyronine but it exacerbated (not caused) heart palps (PVC) within the first hour or so after dosage. Finally found an awesome GP who tested reverse t3 and as it seems, I don't convert well. He changed tx approach - sustained release t3, with tirosint - tirosint was lowered and t3 is the primary tx. Doctors for 25 + yrs have tried to give me anti-depressant meds that I'd throw away only after a couple wks. After watching and reading about the thyroid I asked/begged for further testing which finally turned out to be hypothyroidism. The first wk I found so much peace and energy I literally cried. In my second wk my legs which had a tough to touch patches but were not visible totally gone and was able to ditch all use of lotions. On my third wk, I found myself up and down, one day feeling great and the next miserable which I hope is just an adjustment to my new life on Levothyroxine. Dr. Westin, I'm taking your advice seriously so I made an appt. to see an Endocrinologist first then I will determine afterward if I should go on to the next type of doctor you mentioned in another video. I have hashimotos and I'm currently taking 75mcg liothyronine (this has been increased over time) and 75mcg levothyroxine daily. I was put on liothyronine because it was determined my body does not convert T4 to T3 well. My latest lab results are a bit confusing since I'm still symptomatic (although since boosting to 75mcg of liothyronine, I have seen a slight improvement in my symptoms) My results are as follows: TSH 0.02, T4 Total 3.3, T3 Reverse

    Over 35 years I’ve been dealing with hypothyroidism and what a struggle with getting them to prescribe desiccated thyroid medication the reason for that is it’s the biggest profit maker of all medications, the pharmaceuticals industry offers so many perk’s for endroconologists that prescribe within certain numbers and any that do prescribe anything else are victimized. Listening to the video there were so many points touched on that over the years I’ve found just what you have said true especially when it comes to the tsh and t3 and t4 and have at some point heard that there is a useless t2, experience shows how often they have been so wrong as with the useless appendix or tonsils. I do have another view on some of the reasons for such fluctuations person to person regarding numbers. Hopefully some day opportunity to discuss will present itself

    It almost feels like you’re talking about me, I’ve had an underactive thyroid for thirty three years, not once have I felt great. They told me that I’ve been overprescribed levothyroxine and reduced this then sent me to the specialist regarding it, who reduced it but sent me for a bone density scan, which was fine. I still feel the same but lately I can’t stay awake. I’m going to get this guys books so I can go and discuss this effectively with my GP

    Great interview.My GP told me T3 is for people with hyperthyroid and he won't prescribe it to me.I am 2 years on T4 100mcg and now I decided to add small dose t3 on my own.I hope I won't make any damage.I live in the Netherlands and can not find GP who understands how it works.It is so frustrating!

    This is some really great info but what we need is a list of doctors nationwide who will prescribe T3 only or are open to that as a therapy. It took me several years to find an endo who was willing to let me try T3 based on my own research, monitoring my symptoms and numbers. He hadn’t prescribed it before but I found out after my success with it, he starting prescribing it. He wasn’t willing to put me on Armour, but the Cytomel added to levoxyl was a game changer for me at the time. Fast forward, I’m on Armour and it works even better, though every time I have labs done, I get the “Well, your TSH is suppressed.” I’m a medical technologist by degree and I explain the negative feedback system and I know TSH is a messenger: if your thyroid hormone levels are adequate, you don’t need TSH telling your thyroid to make more! I think it boils down to liability in most cases, unfortunately. Our lawsuit happy society wants to hold doctors to some standard of perfection, so doctors get scared of working outside the boundaries of “normal” test ranges. If you find a doctor who listens and works with you, that’s great, but if you or they move away and you have to start over, it’s scary.

    T3 helps a lot. However, sustained release T3 is so much better!! It's totally worth paying out of pocket and makes a big difference

  • @susantravis2925
    @susantravis2925 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Found this interview critical to my thyroid recovery. My reverse T3 was 23 on 30 mg of NP and 100 mcg’s of Synthroid. We reduced the Synthroid to 88 mcg’s and my reverse T3 went to 16. Then started on 5 mcg’s of regular T3. My reverse T3 went to 15.5, but both FT3 and FT4 went down. So I was given the 5mcg’s sustained release T3, and I’ve been taking that at night and the 5 mcg of regular T3 during the day. Result this far esp. since taking the sustained release at night, is that my sleep is been better which of course helps everything. I sometimes add another regular T3 during the day for a total of 10-15 mcg’s daily.
    1. Why is it that sustained T3 taken at night helps one to sleep better?
    2. What is a recommended rate of increasing T3 until you find the sweet spot, right level for you?

    • @drwestinchilds
      @drwestinchilds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe it has something to do with the interaction between thyroid hormone and cortisol levels which normally peak in the morning. The rate of increasing T3 varies by person. 5-10mcg is usually good for most people.

    Definitely talk about Adrenal Insufficiency, his low cortisol, Iron. The adrenals were what stopped me from absorbing T3 and converting T4 along with low iron. Those must be addressed for T3 to get into the cells. I wasted years being sick until I addressed this!
