Holy shit. Now I see why this interview is trending. There really IS a movement going on! Didn't even really think of it but holy shit there is a movement. It's like all the 90s and late 80s black kids (OF, Gambino) are now surfacing in the modern era and expressing their creativity. Because if you are are black and born in the 90s and grew up in the suburbs (like OF) you definitely have an interesting world view and creative spirit which Gambino also channels. It's like we're heading into an age of well spoken black Americans with a strong and eclectic creative energy that fuses black culture with their surroundings and etc in a modern day America.... damn. This is big.
I know this comment is 3 years old and I didn't check all of the 65 replies (mine 66) but I do have to stop you- OF members definitely did not grow up in the suburbs lol. They are well-spoken, creative, and oddly intelligent, but that does not mean you had to grow up in the burbs. A lot of black youth in the projects are like them but get molded by the hood mentality they are surrounded by and then you get the accent and the gang banging. Fortunately, they stayed themselves and through their music they found a way out of their environment but the last thing you should do when you meet a creative, well-spoken black youth is to just assume they grew up in better neighborhoods and such. Like any black kid from the projects has no capacity for being that way.
+Magnum Titus I dont get how almost no one knows his name, but he gets shitloads (not as much as he deserves tho) of listeners and viewers on yt and spotify
+Franky Gronvik I don't know much about him, but this video was impressive as all hell. Just from the way people talk about him it seems like people like to think he's not real hip hop and for that, and other reasons, they're 'too good' or 'too cool'. Like he's a One Direction of hip hop or something.
LanIost that is true. What i ment was that if i ask a random person (at least here in norway) who childish gambino or donald glover is, almost no one will know who it is. But if i put on a song like 3005, sober or heartbeat they will say that they have heard the song before.
See i caught that shit, notice how my boy says that STN MTN/KUAI is gonna be a transition mixtape. His new song "Candler Road" is a perfect example of what the tape will display. It starts out a little more trap-like then the second half of the song is more real and the style completely changes. But see Donald never tells anyone this type of stuff, you figure it out for yourself, you decipher it yourself, you depict it yourself, that...that is art. Donald is a genius.
the fact that intelligence has been made synonymous with being "corny" in hip hop is an embarrassment and an abomination to the culture. We need more intelligent rappers like this. Ignorance is what's REALLY corny.
But if you can’t have culture w/o the poor class, I’m pretty sure what we all perceive as “ignorance” will always be a thing or have a stigma. This video is amazing in 2021 🪄⏳
Than you don’t listen to rap you cornball being intelligent never been corny in hip hop. Weirdos like YOU are the problem with hip hop. Ya low iq mfs slow.
@@flowmotion_2 no they aren’t. Joey badass, ab soul, Kendrick Lamar and Cole are still the top hip hop artist. So is jay z .. Andre 3000 always been the goat too many. Just say you don’t listen to hip hop 🤡
HE is definitely relatable, on so many levels. I love it. its like Rosenberg said " I'm really black, I also have qualities about me , that previously people considered to be "white", but thats really me too..." Childish Gambino said it perfectly: " Being young and black in America is Schizophrenic. You kinda have to change who you are a little bit all the time, for people to even respect you.." As soon as I heard his music, I could relate to him, I was like finally an accurate representation of middle class black kids. FINALLY! lol Love this man, i love enlightening conversations like this!
Abosolutely! He is a great representation (and Kanye used to be) of the average middle class black kid that probably lives in a decent neighborhood and their parents have good jobs, but their grandma and aunt and cousins that they see and chill with regularly still live in the hood. its this inbetweeners thing where you're not hood enough to be about that life, but you're not privileged enough to be about that life, we're finally being represented!
Gambino is so real. Any non-predjudiced person sees that. There's no predjudice in what he says, and he's right about it all. I really respect him. I wish more people watched this, because its just real. I grew up not knowing predjudice, I grew up loving everyone for who they are, but as I got older, I realized how unbelieveably rude people are based on race. I wish it didn't exist, I wish everone could just accept people based on their character. And it hurts my heart that my race is the reason there is so much predjudice. I don't know if my ancestors fought for equality, I don't know if they owned slaves, but it disgusts me that the possibility of them being racist was there. And it disgusts me that I couldn't do anything to change their perspective. All I know is, my son (a mixed race, PERFECT boy) will only know love, and will only learn to love others. No race, no predjudice, just human beings trying to make the most of their lives.
All we can do is teach the young generations to show love to everyone and not show hatred towards others. The young ones will shape the world. I have hope for the future we just gotta love each other
I think my favorite thing about this interview is definitely the freestyle, not just because he straight up killed it but because I didn't expect it. When he kept saying, "Yeah... Um... Aha Rosenburg..." I thought he didn't have anything. But then he just pulled it outta nowhere. I think he always has a lot to say but people don't respect the way he says it because he has this persona of being a "white-black" so he doesn't always emphasize what he means. But when he starts rapping like that, it's like he's free and there's no judgement and it's all based on his skill. Gambino is changing the game and is making the rules as he goes. He's playing with the cards he has and pioneering one of the best upcoming music careers ever.
I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I've watched the freestyle countless times but never took the time to watch the whole thing. I'm glad I finally did.
+Randy McNally 36:14 he's talking about building and influencing culture through media, straight up. And his stuff brings people together, makes good in the world even if it's just for a little bit
Childish Gambino a real one, the way he broke down today's hip hop is the truth. I also like that he spoke about blacks in America and how we need to start owning our style and creativity.
This man is honestly the most down to earth guy on the planet, doesn’t care about opinions of others and does what he think is right for everyone. We don’t deserve this beautiful man
Man, please lets get through this comment section without a Drake comparison... Gambino isn't just a corny punchline rapper this guy is an actual lyricist and a very, very creative ARTIST. Hes superior in every way all Drake has is money and hits that doesn't define the quality of an artist.
fuck no...you are crazy, drake is the greatest of this generation whether you love him or hate him. Especially if Gambino imitates his flows and his "sound"...
Tim Frieden Drake is wack as fuck, hes the SAME thing as Lil Wayne he just sings Drake the greatest of this generation? That says a lot about your knowledge about Hip Hop. Both him and Wayne are just do lame non clever punchlines thats the reason he was signed and Gambino has been doing this WAAAAAAAY before Drake. So please have a sit.
Drake is easily this greatest artist of this generation, there is no explanation need for this tbh you must herd mentality if you don't think he is, even if he isn't your favorite rapper he is still better than your favorite
JuliusC. bro wtf you talking about..gambino only put out one decent project which is "because the internet" , all his other projects is just cheesy punchline rap or some corny pop music. Drake paved the way to be "emo" as a rapper after kanye's 808's and heartbreak, so this style is definitely Drake's style, that's 2009 so far gone, so you don't have your info right...And I said this Generation he is the greatest, I didn't say OF ALL TIME. The only two that can be considered the greatest of this era is Kendrick or Drake but nobody is killing the game commercially, sonically, or critcially right now like Aubrey, he is too damn consistent.
His level of creativity is prolific...and yet not at the same time. That was a phenomenal freestyle, and he is a very inspiring individual. Can't wait for his new mix tape.

I wasn't even going to watch this interview in its entirety because it was really long but once I heard what he started talking about with the black communities and literally just speaking from the heart, I couldn't stop watching. I'm not usually into all the black america movement, basically I'm just like the example of what he was talking about with the people who are good at saying yeah I see whats happening and I have an opinion but I'm not really doing anything about it and I think that people like him can change the way the people look at things. He has a totally different perspective on everything that he says and sees and its really refreshing to see someone like him making music because honestly whatever it is, it is super dope. I am a huge fan of his work and I loved his album.

I've watched a few videos of his interviews recently, and have a huge amount of respect for him. He is extremely intelligent and is very good with words. His honesty shows, and he's a great voice for the youth to here, regardless of color, but yes definitely a powerful voice for young black children and even young adults
The First REAL Freestyle I have heard in a long time. EVERYTHING MADE SENSE. This is my first time watching a Childish Gambino Interview and I enjoyed it.
I love what Gambino represent. I'm a black guy who grew in the middle class in Canada and even though 90% of my rap music is the gangsta music or from the hood perspective, I'm just a nice guy in general who never witness that lifestyle even though I had friends who did a little sum sum. So to hear someone rapping about other things than whatever is going on in the hood and to actually be good is a welcome change. Now haters do your unpaid job.
Fugazi331 not fucking really. somebody says something your stupid ass never heard before and you think it's brand new. that's all i'm saying. lit isn't a new word. people are just late and annoying. shut the fuck up
I love Peter Rosenberg interviews. He acknowledges things only true fans would know, and then, when the questions are all said and done, the interview gradually turns into a conversation.
I don't care. GAMBINO is one of the most talented people out there!
Gavin Salinas was
Donald Glover is more talented

no... its a transition mixtape because it transitions from one sound (STN MTN) to the other (Kauai).
I like Rosenberg interviewing by himself.
Yuhh ebro is just unexplainably not as good as a personality than rose
Right Ive said that before and think he should go solo. I like how he engages much better.
Lilly S Me too! He asks real, elaborate, well thought questions.
FACTSSS!!!!!!!!
Lilly S yup ! If Ebro was there !? Oh and the girl who wants to sit and look pretty !? Whole different interview .

This was a fucking lit freestyle. like I wouldn't be surprised if I heard this on an album and not on a radio interview
He gets so exited about what he's saying I love it

He wasn't lying man. Listen to 3005 then listen to any artist popping right now. He created the movement
Best freestyle I've heard in a long time.
You Must Of Haven't Heard A Lot Of Freestyles.
"killing women and children just makes you a whack person"
-Donald Glover, amazing quote
He's just absolutely amazing I want to be his friend I feel like he sees the world in a completely different way than everyone else
he has the prettiest eyes wtf
Man I really love Gambino's style of free. I really love the way he comes out and shakes it off before going back in.
Donalds description of 3005 was fucking perfect, its good but it really gets annoying after you hear it all over the radio
I can listen to his talk, all day.
"You look like a black grandmother."
.... This literally ruined all visuals for me.
Gambino always coming hard in these freestyles.... TOO underrated.
Why is no one talking about the freestyle he dropped? Shit was fire.
Childish is the realest. Got nothing but admiration and respect for that dude. Hes one of the few artist that i can honestly relate too.
I love it when he starts out a bit like ehhhhh- but you hear the gears turning then BAM - he just goes in like a monster. Im speechless. Best Rapper alive.

His honesty shows, and he's a great voice for the youth to here, regardless of color, but yes definitely a powerful voice for young black children and even young adults
He's like the coolest rapper out right now, to me
The First REAL Freestyle I have heard in a long time. EVERYTHING MADE SENSE.
This is my first time watching a Childish Gambino Interview and I enjoyed it.
Rosenberg is such a good interviewer
the fuckin best!! along with Sway... I truly cant stand when Ebro is in the building. He takes away From Rose amazing talent of getting the best info

Love this Kid!!!
he snapped in that freestyle
I love Peter Rosenberg interviews. He acknowledges things only true fans would know, and then, when the questions are all said and done, the interview gradually turns into a conversation.
