I love Tyler's mindset when it comes to cultural intake and reference points. The point he made about things being non-exisent in someone's mind, community and lifestyle without taking to account that it flourishes outside their mindscape is genius. I've realized that as I got older (I'm 18). There were some genres and artists I've never heard of but when I look in-depth, I realize what I’ve missed out on in the time of the said subject. I've been out of tune and had a suppressed mindset when I was younger and not on purpose. But as I found many things from pop culture, anime, music, fashion, world events, etc, I continuously become open-minded and wanted that sense of knowledge and became fanatics of certain passions. I love being a tech enthusiast. I love anime art styles and the process of animation, stylized art, unique fashion, cinematic-looking landscapes and scenery. Alternative genres and artists like BROCKHAMPTON, Tyler, Kaytranda, Thundercat, The internet, Earthgang, etc. Things like that I gravitate towards and as Tyler said, people have excluded things in their life and choose to think that world doesn't exist. Everyone is essentially right because everyone is different. Genuinely love this conversation with Tyler and I think I understand more of his thought process as an artist, creative, and individual.
I just became the same way from 17-19 and there is still plenty of growth to come. But the awareness of that bubble we lived in we were ignorant and seeing people daily in society do it today and downplay anybody that goes against the grain is why I have so much respect for Tyler’s realization as he got older. I know it’s why my music sounds greater as well I learned about so much stuff this year that I hate I went my whole life being blind to. But growth and realization and willingness is all the most important so we will run laps around those in our generation who hate to step outside of the box and be them true selves. All the more I still tryna at least plant that seed of knowledge upon them knowing as they get older and learn more, hopefully they will do the same💯
After Childish Gambino came out with "Awaken, My Love" i knew not to question an artist change in trajectory. And Tyler is the same way, an artist who puts his heart and soul into a project regardless of it might be something completely different from how they started. Its called growth and i love to see it.
You ain’t never lied I felt the same way cause I am still a fan of Gambino still this day when that album came out I didn’t know what to do until things started to make sense music wise with people like Tyler and other people
It can't be understated how good Tyler is at talking. This man talks like he's studied the human rhetoric so much and just knows exactly how to respond to people questions, using their word choices, a really friendly tone, matching their energy, making the people feel heard etc... This dude knows how to talk better than most college lecturers. edit: yall are weird af
The one thing that clearly shows Tyler has grown and gained wisdom, besides his talent as an artist, is knowing that everyone’s opinion on just about everything is based on a reference point. That’s something that you come to realize the older you get.
He talked a lot about reference point and I have been thinking a lot about how much our perception and experiences influence our opinions and views. Having a healthy conversation is about realizing that regardless of what you say, no amount of words will make someone feel and have all of your opinions
1. He should've gotten a grammy for the Flower Boy album first. 2. The Potato Salad video is beautiful and his first verse on that song is elite rap lyrics. I run back his Playstation punchlines in that song over and over. The world has slept on Tyler for so long. I'm happy he's finally getting some flowers for his art. Protect Tyler at all costs. He is living proof that rap isn't a monolithic genre.
To me, Tyler and Childish are two of the most creative and talented people.. to act, do comedy, music, produce, etc. I love seeing dynamic personalities win.
I'd love to see Tyler do a masterclass on music technology. The way he speaks about music reminds me of someone who went to college to become a music major.
Mannn I’ve love T since that first chord on Wolf. My reference point was my jazz training. I grew up on Charlie Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Roy Ayers, bossa nova, John Barry then the Neptunes when I got older, etc…so it’s SO SO brilliant hearing those influences in what he makes and to hear it accompanying his flow gives me life! I’m a big music head and never liked rap UNTIL I got into Wolf then cherry bomb, it opened me up to loving ALOT of new school hip hop and (even though he’ll never know/see this) I personally thanked him by adding I’m as one of my all time favorites (Stevie wonder, Kate Bush, Prince, David Bowie, Tyler). But the SFFB, Igor and now CMIYGL just whew- no words. I see on Twitter alot of kids wanting to get into bossa nova so I see they’ll be referring Tyler as their reference points and it’s a beautiful cycle! -SN: his voice is like thicc chocolate (oat) milk he seriously needs to do audiobooks.
It's so crazy having watched all his old interviews and seeing how he's evolved, yet how he's stayed true to himself unapologetically. He inspires me. Love how passionate he is to his craft.
The fact that he learned how to play piano by studying she’s alive by Andre 3000 by ear shows just how insanely ahead of the times that Tyler is, I love his energy and watching his interviews these last few days has really gotten me back in my bag as an artist to be completely honest💯💪🏾🔥
Tyler is my guy. He makes me feel less alone on a grander scheme and inspires me everytime he pops out. This conversation was much needed though. I hope our culture takes back our art and loves the people who make it more regardless of their style.
Man has a photographic memory. I mean just STUPID recall. And he cares about his craft because it’s what he nerds out to. I appreciate that so much. As an artist, this kind of content really motivates me to keep doing art for the sake of art. Regardless of results or reception. It’s about the geek factor, and Tyler gets that.
This another reason why I love Tyler man....the dude is sooo self aware and aware in general. I just love how real he is because you don't see a lot geniunaility in artist in the majority of artist anymore, ironically. Dude is a very wise individual fam.
Fr he’s piping down a bit lately cause he’s starting realize not much people fucking with him like that in the Industry, it’s more like he needs them now more than they ever wanted to be on his Platform.
One of the best music interviews I’ve watched. Tyler really has cracked the code. He’s on his own mission, no time to watch others, 💯 belief in himself. It’s like a lesson in psychology listening him speak. We should all take something from this. Take a bow Tyler, The Creator

Thank you for everything Tyler, its deeper than just music. Thank you.
I became more of a casual fan of Tyler’s around Flower Boy, but when Igor came out, it changed the way I listened to everything, not just music. Now I’ve listened to everything in his discography and have listened to him grow into the space he’s in now. He’s not comparable to anyone and he deserves all of the good energy coming his way! I told my girl that I can take n acknowledge compliments from dudes. Like be realistic even as a dude you can acknowledge if another man is attractive or looks nice lol. You might like what he's wearing, how he got it put together. If his waves on point. If he's been working out n you can see the gains. Even if he has nice eyes or a smile. Ain't like I wanna eff him, if I see I nice car I can say it looks good doesn't mean I wanna hop in and drive the muthalover lol
1:20:47 that's the laugh of someone who is wealthy. Not RICH, wealthy. Tyler's growth and ability to create and then live in his own world is incredibly inspiring to watch.
I can't front the old head in me thought Tyler was a weirdo but the more I listen to his music & interviews I can't help but like him & admire his own sense of being, if that makes sense.
Totally makes since! I agree with you! I was the same way about him. Once I gave him a listen, I was like dude is dope and very smart. He's in his own lane. He understands human intellect. Plus he's a musical musician.
This is what the generation before the internet couldn't see about new artists and how music is evolving. Now older generations can actually understand new music instead of instantly dismissing it.
I’m calling it now ….TYLER IS A LEGEND!!!! 🙌🏾. He did it his way. He didn’t follow no trends and didn’t need no super producer, big backing, he did it on his own. I live for that😍😍😍. I love artist like him and it’s so rare to see nowadays.
im a tyler fan too but im not quite sure how much attention Kanye gave him in the early stages of his career compared to the recognition he already had, so I wouldnt say no big backing.
@@viditbatta2434 when I say big backing what I meant is getting a super push by his label. He with Sony music. Most artists especially when they are new and got a hot buzz online, and fans, they be promoted heavily. They posters be everywhere. They be on the radio 24/7, their CDs be in stock at the stores (yea I sound old but CDs was still a thing when he first came out). He didn’t really have that. Now that I think about it…. mtv was like the only music channel that would support him. I’m black and I wouldn’t have know about him if I only watch BET at the time. I had the internet and TH-cam but he wasn’t popping up in my recommendations. When Tyler won that award at the mtv awards for best new artist back in 2011. I didn’t know who the hell he was. I honestly thought Wiz was gonna win that award because he was the hottest rapper out at that’s time. Tyler was NOT getting played on the radio, especially not here in chicago. Even down south, I never heard his music down there either. I travel a lot. Once I got to TH-cam searched and saw his interviews and bought his album online, I instantly became a fan. I knew he was going to go so far because every album he got better. He alway progressed as artist, never got stuck. Tyler keeps mentioning that because he a student of great artists that was before him. Yea he use to shady and call them old but he got older and wiser. He sees and pays attention to details. T the greatest! 🙌🏾🙌🏾
Appreciate the perspective from The Creator. I grew up listening to EBro in Cali and we had a local tv channel called "the box" that was my largest exposure to hip hop. I see the historian in this piece. Perspective is a helluva drug.
His take on the Lox vs Dipset battle was spot on. Lox won because they cared and gave a performance, while Dipset had the anthems but didn't perform and tried to play it cool.
Dipset don’t have that many anthems though. It’s like what Jada said; dblock’s mixtapes ring harder than Dipset singles. More people were rapping dblock lyrics than Dipset lyrics, even though Dipset needed the crowd to REMIND them what their lyrics were 😂
Probably not, more like Travis with all that hype and brand deals. BUT I'm really excited for what's coming. I don't think the rapid evolution of Tyler is gonna stop anytime soon. We probably haven't even seen his peak.
I just love hearing a great artist speak when they can fully articulate their talents, thoughts, experiences, and intentions. It's like listening to magic.
He’s almost wise. Definitely older, mature, and grown and I love to see his development, but I think he’s got another big stage of growth ahead of him too in his 30’s
Right. When I was in my late teens and early 20s, I could go to the magazine shop and spend 60 bucks on all these niche mags that focused on weird or interesting music, fashion, films, etc. for a while tumblr became a thing that could feed the passion for me but it was hard to find and has become increasingly harder to find and find people to discuss those things with.
I’ve been fucking with Tyler since Goblin man and he’s had the most incredible musical transformations I’ve ever seen in the modern era fr..only The Weeknd is comparable tbh. His character arc has been absolutely amazing and I’ve been so honored to see him grow as a person and an artist👏🏾🙌🏾
@@boyscout-p I mean he's not wrong in comparison. I mean yeah it's two different genres but like Tyler, The Weeknd was making more darker style R&B songs from his first 3 mixtapes and Kiss Land. Now he does more pop records

I put my studying on pause and I have an exam in 4 hours. I couldn't let TH-cam take this one away from my recommendations. The talk on reference point really made me start thinking 'bout life from a different perspective. I'm glad I saw this video today! I'm a fckin stan of Tyler.

At 1:12:37 Tyler explained it perfectly, as a black kid I feel like I can’t express the way I feel and what type of music I like because I am black.
That's pretty sad tbh

The best convo ever. The truth in the words is rich. Everyone has their own opinion and their own reality for real. "Nobody is wrong!" I love it.
“Nobody is wrong” middle school wannabe philosophy. You probably just like Tyler and think he cool but study that thought process
He is emotionally intelligent he understands people and has intuition that keeps him sharp
That's a keen quality, emotional intelligence.
Genuinely love this conversation with Tyler and I think I understand more of his thought process as an artist, creative, and individual.
well said.
Love it. I'm 18 too and I appreciate how you could word that out in that way. I also love animation and will prolly choose that as a career path
I may be covered in cat hair, but I still smell good.
All the more I still tryna at least plant that seed of knowledge upon them knowing as they get older and learn more, hopefully they will do the same💯
....wut
After Childish Gambino came out with "Awaken, My Love" i knew not to question an artist change in trajectory.
And Tyler is the same way, an artist who puts his heart and soul into a project regardless of it might be something completely different from how they started.
Its called growth and i love to see it.

The one thing that clearly shows Tyler has grown and gained wisdom, besides his talent as an artist, is knowing that everyone’s opinion on just about everything is based on a reference point. That’s something that you come to realize the older you get.
Some people don’t even get to ever realize it, he’s a smart young man
He talked a lot about reference point and I have been thinking a lot about how much our perception and experiences influence our opinions and views.
