Very true. It’s a nice way to show that the “small folk” are often underestimated and taken for granted by those in power. Sometimes people who seem the lowest in society can still inflict profound damage on the ruling class.

    1. There were two attempted murders of young Bran, including the one that occurred on the first episode.
    2. Jon Snow hung a child.
    3. Stannis burnt his daughter at a stake.
    4. Theon killing some boys from a farm and burning their bodies.
    5. Ramsay sic his hunting dogs on his step-mother and infant brother.
    6. Gold Cloaks murdering an infant and drowning a child on the command of Joffery.
I'm sure I'm missing some children that where killed but children have never been safe in this world. Maybe you really forgot what you were watching.

It wasn’t outright stated, but I’m pretty sure they didn’t kill Aegon’s son by mistake. Keep in mind, the rat catcher asked what they should if they can’t find Aemond, and the scene cuts away before Deamon responded. Deamon is a schemer, so likely he told them to do the next best thing, and Aegon’s son became the collateral.

@@killmonger5097 The book has layers of unreliable narrators though. It's an in-universe history book written like a hundred years after the events by a character who has his own biases, who is using biased sources that give contradictory accounts to each other.
So there's not really any certainty of what happened except for the big events that had a ton of witnesses.
They played with this a little in the first season; the "heir for a day" comment happened offscreen, we know Daemon said it, but we don't know precisely HOW he said it. Maybe it wasn't a joke but more of a somber toast and taken out of context.

About not having likable characters to follow. I don't think it's a problem because HOTD is largely a cautionary tale about a family tearing itself apart in pursuit of absolute power. It's meant to be a tragedy and I think the show will definitely succeed at making you feel that by the end neither the Greens or the Blacks got what they wanted in the end.

There's a very good worldbuilding reason to give Targaryens similar names, especially Aegon. Since Aegon the Conqueror is the one who started the Targaryen dynasty on Westeros, lots of Targaryen nobility want to name their children after him. This is mirrored in real world history where there would be a great historical or royal figure that everyone, especially nobles, would name their kids after. That's why you'd have all those names like Jack, Jack II, Jack III. Not that it makes the names easier to remember for the casual viewer, but I understand why GRRM wrote it that way and it makes the world feel more real.

This shows the hypocrisy of Cole and Alicent her pendant. She wears around her neck, stands for dignity, decency and purity, and he puts on his white cloak after they have sex. She was judging rhaenyra so harshly for hooking up for him but now she does this not only on occasion but very often. Though in the books he never sleeps with either.

    • @manvirshergill1739
      @manvirshergill1739 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

it's understandable why Alicent is doing Criston, look at how her life has been since she was a teen, forced to marry a much older man, forced to make heirs while doing her duty, making sacrifices...
but now becuase she's slowly losing her power over Aegon, she's latching on to Cole for control but at the same time fulfilling her needs and certain desires that she never fulfilled unlike Rhaenrya but again it makes her feel shameful, and sinful... yes she is being hypocritical but she's definitely not without her own complexities. I actually prefer Show Alicent to book Alicent just because of the route they are going with the character and the fact that Olivia Cooke's performance is so good to watch.

These guys literally just said that, aside from the baby that got beheaded, everyone here deserves it. I feel like I have to counter this in a HUGE WAY… I’m Team Black, through and through, but Haelaena (the mom of the twins) is the most innocent person on the entire show! She deserves NONE of this. I am devastated for her, especially since she has had visions/dreams of this moment (notice when she tells King Aegon when he comes in the room asking where Jaehaerys is (his son and heir- the one who gets killed), Haelaena says she’s scared of the rats and looks RIGHT AT the boy’s bed where the murder happens. Another thing that really makes me feel for her is that obviously her character is neurodivergent. I see so many similarities between her and my adult sons (who are on the autism spectrum). They do not react like other neurotypical people, and we can definitely see this with her. Watch how she reacts when Rhaenys busts up through the floor on her dragon. She knew and was looking away. Haelaena probably never even thought to lie to them about which child was the boy, and Cheese can tell she is being truthful, because he can see the honesty, and devastation because of it, in her eyes. Haelaena has so many bad things happen to her and to the people she loves, and it’s horrible. Her parents never really knew how to interact with her, either. 23:51 The one thing I don’t care for is the fact that this death was not treated as impactfully
Compared to the books, I mean, this was a big deal. This is what catapulted the war and a lot of people died constantly because of this one act.
    Aemon Targaryen
Was called kins slayer, and given a lot of shit after he killed his nephew
Because in this society, if you’re a slayer, you’re very much rejected by almost your entire house
in the show Alison just sends an apology letter and follows it up with just terms of surrender
And it didn’t seem like anything really happened to him

Okay I think ya'll missed the part where they asked Daemon what they'd do if they can't find Aemond. And that scene ends with Daemon with that sinister look on his face which means if they couldn't find Aemond then it's still a son for a son. Which is why they took finding a male child very seriously.

Does Korey not remember that there were crippling several month writers and actors strikes? That happened a year ago, not factoring all that is pretty out of touch on his part considering his line of work. Not to mention that this is an HBO(Max can join X in the "I won't be calling you that" section) show, and it's not the network's first show to go on a lengthy hiatus, "Curb Your Enthusiasm" anyone? Different network, but does he remember a little show called "The Boondocks" and long fans had to wait between seasons? Korey couldn't handle Brit TV 'cause they sometimes take decades until the next Series(their version of Seasons) and with less episodes than North American TV too.

See, this is how Game of Thrones (the books even more so) was able to avoid the name problem.
Everyone had a nickname. Like, think back to conversations with all your friends in the early seasons before you were fans. Did you say Varys, Lord Baelish, Daenerys, Tyrion, Eddard, Melisandre, Gregor, or Sandor Clegane?
Or did you say the Eunuch, Littlefinger, Khaleesi/Mother of Dragons, the Imp, Ned, the Red Woman, the Mountain and the Hound? And almost everyone who didn't have a complicated name had an easy one to remember: Cat, Arya, Sansa, Bran, Robert, etc.
Somewhere along the way the show gave up on those, no more nicknames when they served a purpose.

    • @channelZER01

I think a big part of that is HBO not wanting to play the long game anymore , even if this show remains a monster hit due to the source material you can only stretch this story out but for so long so why bother , where as with GoT the idea was to keep it going for a long while in which case the nicknames would help people get familiar over a longer time like you said. At this point I thibk people make up their own nicknames for the characters, like I call her criston ser crispy Aemond is Eye batch Bro Daemond is DarkDoctorWho ect. Lol but that's just me ...also I'm really high

How can we forget this series?? There have been like 3 interesting series over the last 2 years. He's really stupid for not being able to say a name. Everything is very clear in the series, the problem comes from you. Afterwards I understand that HBO is at a high level and perhaps it is just too high for you, for some. They are part of the same clan so making the first names resemble each other allows us to transmit a heritage, Valerian names, for the Targaryens and the Velaryons. Aegon is a very important name because it is a way of further legitimizing his heir to the throne. The name of the 1st King of Westeros and the creators of the Iron Throne. heritage, blood and fire and dragons are all for the Targaryens. Anyone who says that it's long or that nothing happens doesn't understand the GOT universe and doesn't understand that a lot of things happened in this episode. 2 years of waiting is normal for a series of this importance, it's a lot of work and quality.

I mean trying to decipher everyone's family relations is kind of just too much. Rhaenyra's parents were cousins so that makes her a second cousin to both her parents. Viserys and Daemon's parents were siblings so they're cousin brothers. This means Daemon is Rhaenyra's second cousin uncle husband (and ex-inlaw and also pending in law due to the engagement of Jayce and Baela). And we haven't even touched on the fact that its not just Rhaenyra's grandparents (Viserys and Daemon's parents) who were siblings, but her great grandparents and her great great grandparents as well.

To the "criticism" (and I know you guys really aren't complaining about the show and these are little nitpicks) about the show, this first season is mostly setup for this civil war in this one house (Targaryen). This is why all the names are similar b/c they are named after former kings within the house. Think of how many King Georges there are. It also adds to the conflict b/c different sides of this conflict feel the right to name their children certain names. The other thing that Martin said about this feeling like it takes place in one location or is isolated to fewer locations than the OG Game of Thrones also points to the setup in season 1. The show is setting the table within this large, extended family. This is going to expand as the Civil War escalates and the different Houses join and pick sides. Which is why we start the first episode in Winterfell with the Starks swearing allegiance to Team Black. While on the Wall, Cregan Stark also mentions King Jaehaerys and Queen Alysanne Targaryen who ruled before Viserys (The old crypt keeper king in season 1) as a way to hint at how long the starks have been loyal to the line of succession and also that they stand by the oaths they swore by.
I would say the one thing HOTD 🍆 has over the OG show is that George RR Martin finished this story. It all happens in one book. And really the second half of the book is what we're seeing on this show. Those of us who have read the book know just how F'ed up this going to get, people just need to buckle up and enjoy the ride!

Like you were saying in the books the twins are both boys and 6 years old then she has a younger boy that is 2. When that scene happens she offers up the two year old and then ends up lying about which son is the one they want to protect the first born but they kill the opposite of the one she says because they know that. So in the books he does lose his heir not too sure if they did in the show or if she schemed them into the daughter she might have like semi mind powers as she does get premonitions as it is hence her line about "afraid of the rats" which is reference to cheese the rat catcher.

Mayhap we are entering a golden era of entertainment, the amount of good games and movies/shows (mostly shows) either released or made accessible on different platforms is crazy, just having the boys and house of the dragon at the same time is amazing, starfield was a bad start but it seems like things have been great since then for the most part, when star wars drops its pretty easy to tell if it will be trash or not, the only reason anyone watched the acolyte was to whine and complain, we will get good star wars every now and then, it will mostly be shit, worry about what you can control, disney isn't a government, you won't pressure them to do anything.

in the beginning of the episode the queen states she is afraid of the rats. Its was foreshadowing for what was to come with the assassins posing as rat catchers. They killed the child because its "a son for a son" They couldn't find Aemond so they found another son to slain. Btw security at the castle is SEVERLEY lacking smh. Surprise there was no mention of one of the assassins kicking the sh1t out of his dog out of frustration.

The family names aren't hard to keep up with. In medieval times, royal/noble families would name their kids after each other or variations of each other for generations.
