      This comment doesn’t have to do with this video, but I pray it finds you. Jesus is coming soon he is not going to save you in your sins but from your sins. God is coming to pour out wrath and destruction upon the wicked! I know a lot of people worship the devil because it’s the path of least resistance and they feel like God has let them down so many times. I don’t know who needs to hear this, but the reason why you feel like God has let you down was because you didn’t give your heart to him. You did the actions but your heart wasn’t in it. He healed you and strengthened you and when you were strengthened you fell right back into sin. Faith is to do something without evidence that a certain outcome will happen! Even God created the Earth through faith, so that he can show us as an example that things that were unseen were not created by things that were seen. Hebrews 11:3 “3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” Or the which is visible

    The original Game Of Thrones has somewhat spoiled fantasy fans because people want more than just high-concept fantasy nowadays, they want sex, intrigue, surprises, and relatable human behavior. Amazon's mistake was not realizing that even in fantasy settings there needs to be a strong human element, so the wild and fantastic settings and situations still feel understandable and relatable.

    Really disliking Rings of Power but pleasantly surprised by House of the Dragon. And contrary to what Martin said, I think if you LOVE Lord of the Rings, then you are actually more likely to dislike the Rings of Power as it doesn't follow the stories of the 2nd age at all. Not even close. I think it is most likely to appeal to the casual Lord of the Rings fan who saw the movies and they're happy to watch a generic fantasy story with a LotR coat of paint.

    I completely agree about the character driven writing elevating HOTD compared to ROP. While Rings of Power is beautiful, there’s FAR too many flowery exposition scenes & not enough characters feeling “human”. I tend to zone out whenever Durin & his family are not on screen bc everything else just drags bc the other characters are so one note. Whereas HOTD, I’m very invested in the many shades of grey within their characters & where their actions will lead to next. House of the dragon is the person who knows themselves and their style and gained popularity from just being interesting and witty.
    Rings of Power is the one person whose dad was cool back in the day so they try to copy his style and the way he spoke without understanding anything he meant and trying to pretend like they're something they aren't.
    Rings of power has the potential but they need better writers and a different wardrobe department. They also need to get the Tolkien scholar back and get Peter Jackson to teach them how to create a sense of scale. Numenor is the greatest cavitation of men but it feels like 5 blocks with a population of 100.

    One of the charges that supporters of Rings of Power levy against its detractors is that people despise Rings of Power because it has "strong female characters" and all the hate towards it just comes from toxic males. This is why it is interesting to compare Rings of Power with House of Dragons, because the same men that hate Rings of Power love House of Dragons - a show that has two strong female leads that drive the show. This illustrates how such charges of sexism are completely without merit. People don't detest Rings of Power because of its has bold female leads. They don't like it because it is poorly written.

    • @idakev
      @idakev ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haven't seen much of an argument about sexism. It was mostly that people lost their shit when they saw black characters in the trailers, and started mass disliking and complaining about it in a way that's rarely seen. Same thing for The Little Mermaid. For ROP, they copied and pasted a quote everywhere and implied that the diverse casting was a corruption of good. lol. It was pretty bad.
      *It's alright to be critical of bad behavior, and also be critical of the show.* Also, people did try going after House Of The Dragon and its writers before it released saying it would be "woke trash" because it has black characters as well (look at the thumbnails, lol). They just sensed which way the wind was blowing, and abandoned that narrative. The Critical Drinker changed the titles of critical HOTD videos ("Why No One Cares About House Of The Dragon") to avoid looking dumb. They're trying to pretend it ever happened rather than owning that they were wrong. The actor who plays Corlys has been outspoken about the crap he received for it.
      The problem these days is that *the second you criticize bad behaviour, people scream "You're putting everyone in the same bucket!" no matter how nuanced and fair you are.*

    House of the Dragon is pretty good so far, but we need way more time with the dragon riders actually interacting with their dragons. They are the medieval equivalent of nuclear bombs and have a mystical connection with their rider. That's such a great opportunity for characterization and world building. Show Daemon's wife taming her dragon. Show how much Daemon loves his and what he allows it to do to people.

    There is no comparison between the two, the writing and acting are multitudes better on HOTD. The biggest weakness with Rings is that while its visually superior in alot of ways to HOTD, its horribly written and the main protagonist sucks. We’re 5 episodes in and Durin is the only character i like, not only that but the plot drags and its not that engaging. What it boils down to; good writing vs. bad writing. The action, the magic, the dragons, the battles, the special FX, the wide vistas... they are merely the icing, the surface look. The actual substance and the quality of the cake, what you want to bite into and derive sustenance and satisfaction from... that's where the script, the dialogue, the characterisations, the actual storycrafting come into play.

      "What it boils down to; good writing vs. bad writing."
      🖐Nah, good or bad is subjective.
      What it boils down to is whether you're a roleplayer or not.
      Those who played D&D know how difficult it can be to role play your character so are more forgiving to 'bad Elven' dialogue, while those who haven't are oblivious to how difficult it can be to make your character sound Elven and simply will call it bad writing.
      So fantasy roleplayers generally tend to gravitate to enjoying RoP more than those who never played D&D.

      @@TrickyD Wrong again, I'm afraid. ANY craft or skill can be measured (and therefore objectively assessed); I have absolutely no idea where you've dreamed up that sports are some kind of special exception in this regard.
      If there were no such thing as good or bad writing, then there wouldn't be any kind of academic discourse around learning and teaching (and therefore assessing) writing as a skill. Otherwise, how could you possibly pass or fail a creative writing qualification? Answer; you couldn't. Nor would there be any form of criticism or analysis of it. Because, how could anyone, anywhere, ever, claim something to be good or bad (or better than or worse than) without even a modicum of objectively defined standards on which to base their argument? Answer; they couldn't.
      "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Two things here, first of all; beauty, like most things, has both objective and subjective aspects to it. Secondly, this speaks mainly (if not in entirety) to looks; to aesthetics. The aforementioned icing on the proverbial cake. So, there is very little need to "disprove" anything here, as even the finest looking cake, with the most alluring and elaborate icing still isn't going to taste very good if the core ingredients inside are of poor quality. So, as I already said, RoP can have the flashiest, most expensive looking CGI, battles, dragons, vistas, etc and still be a bad show if the writing is poor. Which it is.
      You personally finding nothing wrong with the show is absolutely fine. Great. More power to you. You have the luck to enjoy the most expensive TV show ever made. However, how you feel about the show subjectively has absolutely nothing to do with the objective reality of the show's poor writing. And honestly, why would it? There are plenty of bad shows and films I enjoy (some quite a lot, actually), just as there are plenty of good shows and films that I don't enjoy. Such is life. Why would you be any different?

    Let us see. House of Dragons has superior storytelling, more political intrigue, believable characters, and it doesn't besmirch the legacy of the franchise the way the Rings of Power does. The only thing that Rings of Power has going for it is better visuals, but that is to be expected because it is the most expensive show ever produced. However, having better visuals, but being devoid of character and an engaging plot is like buying a Ferrari without the engine. Its just an empty shell.

    Part of the reason why Lord of the rings is failing, and I mean part not a whole lot is the diversity and how it was marketed. Die hard Tolkien fans are objected to it for a reason. The response from the studio is "Oh you're a racist," Which furthers ruin the fandom. But with that all in the mix the biggest failure is the writing and the structure of the show. It's boring and it sucks. I disagree with Martin when he said you gotta be a diehard tolkien fan, the Tolkien fans don't really enjoy it because of the failure of lore. There were kids who took notes in college in Elvish.

    I feel that the rings of power main problem is the showrunners.The money should have been spent on finding good and skillful showrunners who are very season when it comes to telling a good well written character driven stories. Even though i somewhat like the show. I'm never in a rush to watch it.And i don't even talk about it to anyone.Under a good showrunner like house of dragons.I'm always talking about each character and events. Because i know that the showrunners care about what they are doing to their show. It is their baby and i can feel base on how good the writing of the characters are . If rings of power gets a second season.I hope that they remove these showrunners and hire a pair of skillful and season showrunners who knows how to craft a good and compelling stories. Any show just like any cartoon they live or die by the strength of its writing .

One is a high fantasy with themes of religious (mostly Christian) theology with a big magical universe beyond the petty squabbling of humans & the other story is a basic cable backstabbing drama show between ordinary people with a sprinkle of dragons in the medieval background. I love both shows because, they are completely different from one another. They are offering different things.

    • @Kefka.
      @Kefka. ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These are both Medieval style fantasies. GOT had zombie (whites) smart zombies (walkers) Dire Wolves, the animal control people, Giants, magic, other humanoid species (Children of the Forest),etc. GOT and HotD are direct inspirations of Tolkien's work (like any medieval fantasy). One is a hard r version, one is a pg-13 version that pushes the fantastical elements more than the GOT universe.

    • @afrinaut3094
      @afrinaut3094 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Kefka. good point but I was talking about house of the dragon. all that magical stuff in GOT came later. And even then the zombies were not the focus of the show, it was the human drama and human backstabbing. There are gods in Game of Thrones but they either don’t exist, aren’t good, or aren’t really consistent…… there really isn’t a grand religious genesis world-building like there is in lord of the rings. Game of Thrones doesn’t have a Iluvatar or Valar.

All the darkness, pessimism, morbidity, incest and disregard for life that comes with HotD makes it a hard watch at times. With GoT, I've come to learn that these stories usually have bad endings. The "good guys" are often killed or corrupted by the world if they survive long enough. Or they pay some life altering price for being honorable and righteous. And the politics are nonstop to the point where it's almost comical. RoP is a nice palette cleanser and change of direction that I welcome with open arms.
