Vampire in Brooklyn is one of those flicks where its production history makes for a more fascinating story than the actual film. The idea came about when Eddie was reaching the end of his contract with Paramount Pictures. He wanted to try something different, showing off his versatility by doing a horror flick. He was a fan of The Hills Have Eyes and wanted to work with its director; Wes Craven. Wes jumped on the opportunity to work with Murphy since he wanted to branch out of the horror genre, wishing to direct a comedy. The filming was not a pleasant process. There are a lot of differing accounts, so take what I'm mentioning here with a pinch of salt. Craven said that Murphy would ignore his direction to play Max as "vulnerable": _"The tough part was he (Murphy) didn't want to be funny at all. He wanted to play totally straight so I couldn't get the humour into it that I wanted to get into it"_ - Wes Craven Supposedly, Eddie was nervous while filming, thinking people didn't find him scary as the villain. He then opted to do a lot of his comedic, multiple role bits from Coming to America. He blames a lot of it on the wig he had to wear: _"But you know what ruined that movie? The wig. I walked out in that longhaired wig and people said, 'Oh, get the fuck out of here! What the hell is this?'"_ - Eddie Murphy Some have said that Murphy armchair directed the flick, with Wes being a "gun for hire". In the end, it results in a film that can't strike a balance between scary and funny. Murphy doesn't look back on the film fondly, saying he only did it so that he could get out of his contract to do The Nutty Professor. Everyone else from the cast (and Craven) looks back on the film fondly; John Witherspoon, Angela Bassett, and Kadeem Hardison. Though this film is a blip on the radar, considering Craven and Murphy managed to have a comeback with Scream and The Nutty Professor, two flicks that were career-defining.
Personally, the worst thing about this movie was the fatal fall of stunt woman Sonja Davis. She was the stunt double for Angela Basset and was performing a backflip off of a building. She was told the air bag at the bottom would cushion her fall, but instead as a result of improper placement, she instead bounced against the side of a building and fell onto the concrete. She was in a coma for two weeks before dying. On top of that, her mother and siblings were there to witness the event.
Critics hated this movie but most people that seen it enjoyed it and don't watch movies with the same criteria that critics have. This movie was funny and entertaining. Both John Witherspoon and Kadeem Hardison have funny underrated performances in this.
It was a hilarious film in black households , and remember everyone in school quoting it . Corey and Martin act like they are too stuck up to laugh at times

There is a scene where Angela Bassett's character jumps or flies from the top of a building. Sadly her stunt double died doing that jump. It remained in the movie.
I love how this isn't a 100% roast but an analysis of the film/actor industry. I agree that Eddie should not have made a complete 180 from comedy to serious. Robin Williams did Dead Poets Society in which it was a drama but Williams had funny moments. Jim Carrey was in a "comedy" situation but he was serious with some funny, albeit more subdued bits, in The Truman Show. If I were his agent, I would tell Eddie Murphy to follow those trends or else the general public wouldn't find you believable.

Eddie Murphy likes to become what he's a fan of. He impersonated Michael Jackson and then dropped a serious song sounding like MJ. He loved and was friends with Prince so he dressed a bit similarly. He also was a fan of Ricky Ricardo from "I Love Lucy" so he adopted his cadence for this movie.
I see this movie as a mirror opposite of Coming to America, the plot in a way is exactly the same, liar reveals, the bumbling sidekick that works for the African lead, the woman that takes no bs while being a hopeless romantic, not to mention Eddie has the accent It’s awesome to look at it this way and I love this film lol I watch it every October

If you want another crazy awesome Eddie Murphy movie I definitely recommend The Golden Child, the 80s cult gem where he learns magic and fights Charles Dance. It feels VERY Big Trouble In Little China but its own thing and definitely feels like Murphy wanting to evolve more as a genre actor.

Honestly the only thing that I like about this movie now that I'm older is the Ghoul character, and honestly if there was a sequel about him being the Vampire I'd enjoy that.
Man I'd love if y'all would review Wes Craven's The Serpent and The Rainbow and The People Under The Stairs. They're two of his under rated horror masterpieces with largely black casts. People Under The Stairs feels like a proto Jordan Peele movie to me balancing social commentary, laughs and thrills evenly IMO.

Yeah, the 90s was an era where a lot of SNL cast members didn’t want to do comedy anymore. And luckily Bill Murray was one of the few members of SNL that made it in both comedy and drama. Bill Murray wanted Groundhog Day to be serious and Harold Ramis wanted it to be a comedy. And that caused a falling out with the two until before Ramis’ death. But despite that, Murray found success in drama little over the past few decades by working with Wes Anderson & Sofia Coppola. But another example of a comedian failing in drama is Chevy Chase, who we all know as the most notorious, egotistical, meanest asshole in the industry. He did Memoirs of an Invisible Man which was directed by John Carpenter. Originally it was supposed to be directed by Ivan Reitman but Ivan Reitman quit the film after he decided to proceed with the script written by William Goldman, and the studio backed up Chase. And Chase found Goldman’s script too comedic. And Goldman left the project as well because of Chase disapproving of his script. Not to mention the fact that the movie was all Chevy Chase’s idea as he was the executive producer and wanted to explore the themes of the loneliness of an invisible man. They brought on board John Carpenter but the production of the movie was extremely rough and Chevy Chase became extremely difficult to work with. Even his co star Daryl Hannah which I don’t why was she difficult to work with. But yeah John Carpenter has said that Memoirs of an Invisible Man is his least favorite movie that he’s ever done and that he almost quit filmmaking because of it. But yeah I felt that if Ivan Reitman & William Goldman were still a part of the movie, it would’ve been a great film. But yeah Chevy Chase is another example of a comedian failing at drama.

Bad Movie!? You mean a Classic!
That "Goddamit" sounded just like the "Hey! Wait a minute!" from Samurai Cop. Maybe they got Amir Shervan to do the ADR haha.
Angela basset was FUCKING beautiful in this movie i was like 10 when i first seen this
I see this movie as a mirror opposite of Coming to America, the plot in a way is exactly the same, liar reveals, the bumbling sidekick that works for the African lead, the woman that takes no bs while being a hopeless romantic, not to mention Eddie has the accent
It’s awesome to look at it this way and I love this film lol I watch it every October
Yo…that’s a GREAT point!
👍🏽
Billy laughing is the highlight of these bad movie reviews
Especially at 22:41, 31:12, 32:12, 36:39, 37:42
Nice to see someone appreciate Billy, there's been a hater in the comments recently that hates on Billy for his laugh even though he's the best part of the Bad Movie Roasts
His laugh is MUCH funnier than Korey’s corny jokes. 🤷🏾♂️
Billy's over laughing tends to come off as tryhard and obnoxious to me, but to each his own I guess.
@@HerooftheWild I think I know who you're talking about. Yeah, he comments every time Billy is in a DT video and it's really annoying.
I gotta say, I was never bothered by this movie! I really enjoyed it and to this day if it’s on I’ll watch it! So much hate when this movie is entertaining!
Lol let there be a Vampire in Brooklyn: The Eddie Murphy cut out there… where it’s the serious horror film he initially wanted to do
If you want another crazy awesome Eddie Murphy movie I definitely recommend The Golden Child, the 80s cult gem where he learns magic and fights Charles Dance. It feels VERY Big Trouble In Little China but its own thing and definitely feels like Murphy wanting to evolve more as a genre actor.
That's a such a good movie.
When did you realize that was a little Asian girl
That's a movie only a few talk about.
I complete forgot about this movie. I'll give it to Eddy that he'll step out of his niche once in a while.
The part with the dog is hilarious 😂
I'm that dude who liked this cheesy movie since I saw it in the theater. I've always defended this movie as much as I could so I'm glad to hear you chime in a little.
I lost it at MAMA MIA! LMFAOOOOOO
It's funny that you guys are talking about this. I went down in my basement a few days ago and I discovered that I still have the Blockbuster VHS copy of this movie, Rush hour 1, and Se7en. I guess it's too late to return them
Probably the reason he wanted to be seriously for Vampire in Brooklyn because he was the first to be chosen to play Candyman but they couldn’t afford him then.
That dog pulled a Team Rocket and went blasting off again 🌟
LMAO! 🤣 Come on now!
I loved this movie but I was also 5 when it came out. Ahhh the 90s. Nothing was off limits
Speaking of Family-friendly features and horror:
"The Haunted Mansion"
Fun fact the girl that Eddie Murphy killed in the apartment is the same girl that be with shenaynay from Martin n also she plays the shy girl n also Martin Lawrence's side girlfriends in a thin line between love and hate😎😎😎😎
“Kinda itches a little” was my favorite line
The pastor character feels like Eddie trying to do Arsenio Hall's Reverend Brown character from Coming to America.
I thought his name was randy watson
@@pheunithpsychic-watertype9881 Randy Watson was Sexual Chocolate played by Eddie Murphy.
I'm talking about Reverend Brown that was played by Arsenio, the pastor character in this film feels a bit a bit like that to me.
The best things about this movie were Kadeem Hardison,John Witherspoon and Angela Bassetts beauty
Allen Payne was solid too.
5:47 Angela Bassett is my crush. She’s so gorgeous 😍🥰👊🏾💍🌹🌹
Heeeck yeah i'm here for this. More Murphy Madness!
I actually liked Daddy Daycare. It was funny and cute. The message of men being able to run a daycare. I loved it 🤷🏻♀️😊🤷🏻♀️🤣
The kids annoyed tf outta me but the movie wasn't bad itself
Only one scene I thought was legit 👌, it’s when Murphy drops the act when Rita confronts him. He’s kinda intimidating and his dialogue ain’t bad. But it’s not worth waiting to get to. Thanks Norbit writers.
It’s more legit scenes you guys just over analyze
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart--even though I've never seen it all the way through.
In 1998 girl invited me to watch it and after about 30 minutes, she took my virginity!😂
No one cares
😂
@@OGMillyMillz_ let this man have his flowers
That’ll do it
She was the true vampire.. needing virgin blood to survive. 🤣 🤣
I actually saw this in the theater upon release but haven't seen it since. For me the scene when he bit the reverend was the best scene in the movie
Back when I was going through my Twilight phase I loved watching Vampire related stuff and found this on VHS and watched it one morning and I honestly thought it was a fever dream
Next Bad Movie Roast, I vote for
Pluto Nash.
Primm do this one yet? Lol I'd love to hear him go in. He a good dude. He a Allstar.
@doogie Five-Four facts. Literally just talked with my girl about it. Hood classic.
This is a classic...we can not slander this movie...
I agree
The restaurant scene with Max as Guido shooting that cat always got me
Honestly the only thing that I like about this movie now that I'm older is the Ghoul character, and honestly if there was a sequel about him being the Vampire I'd enjoy that.
I don't watch a lot of movies now that I'm older but I think it's so cool how much details go into making a movie. I swear you guys need a timeslot on television. You guys are freaking hilarious 😂
I cried so much during the dog rocket scene. My stomach was aching from laughing so hard!!! I need to watch more of your videos. 😂😂😂😂😂
This movie is hilarious, definitely not worthy of a bad movie roast
Danny Trejo and Gollum lmao
14:00 That "SHUT THE FUGUP, GODAMMIT" line is hilarious ASF!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The following year 1996 both Eddie Murphy and Wes Craven had too of their biggest career comebacks in The Nutty Professor and Scream.
Man when I was a kid I looked at this movie everyday cracking up lol
Would love to see you guys do a review for "people under the stairs" if you haven't done it already 👊🏽
Yes! My daughters are still too afraid to watch it lol
YES!!!!
Saw it on Starz like 2 or 3 years ago but yea it's pretty memorable 🤣🤣🤣
I love that movie.
Allen Payne unfortunately hasn't been the same Since New Jack City when Wesley Snipes (Nino Brown) shut down all the Lightskin Brothers lol.
I mean, there’s House of Payne
I LOVED this movie. It was ridiculous and very silly, but it was so different from what we expect from him that it made it unique. There’s no film like it.
32:59 Korey laughed harder than Billy there 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Chile died when that dog flew 🤣🤣🤣
When I saw this as a kid I thought it was supposed to be a comedy. I'm really glad Eddie Murphy was not cast as Candyman in the 1992 movie. 😄
11:14 He reminds me of Xibit in Halloween: Resurrection
That leads to a very good What if: What if _Vampire in Brooklyn_ was a serious horror movie?
What would have been the trajectory of Eddie Murphy's career? Would he have stayed in comedy?
I mean we have already seen Eddie as a singer and his song did _VERY_ well. However he stayed in comedy.
We might not have gotten Nutty Professor…..don’t think I could handle that kind of disappointment if this film was a success
I get why Ppl think this is trash, but this is still 1 of My favorites; It's entertaining as heck!
The punchlines thruout this flick are classic 💯 I can darn near quote the whole movie LoL
Kadeem & Witherspoon made this extra hilarious!!
Fr I don’t understand why the movie was that bad
@@corneliusfarrell8673 That part! I will agree that it's not fully a "horror" flick. I look @ it just like the 1 Mel Brooks did.. It's more comedy, but not corny.
@@KixXxy84 wat movie she was on
@@corneliusfarrell8673 Mel Brooks is a Male Director etc. The movie is "Dracula: Dead & Loving It". It's a spoof. Hilarious like many of His movies (He had something to do w/ "Blazing Saddles").
@@KixXxy84 🤦🏽♂️ o Mel Brooks my mistake I was thinking of someone else lol. Oh ok I think I seen that movie before Dead and loving it Dracula comedy flick long time ago
Wes Craven's 2nd Horror movie involving Black Folks since The People Under The Stairs an Underrated Hood Classic.

Facts
There are over 300 comments so I don’t know if it’s been commented on already but sadly stunt performer Sonja Davis tragically died doing a fall for this film.
I unironically love this movie.
Ive always liked this movie, that preacher scene is hilarious.
I like how Eddie was still able to play multiple characters.
This is Halloween classic for me, a bad Halloween classic, but a Halloween classic nonetheless
When he showed the dog, I thought he was going to cue the rag doll scene from Catwoman 😆😅
I thought this movie is good. Its really entertaining and funny as hell.
Me and my family saw this in theaters when I was like 7,or 8 😂 good times
I loved this movie as a kid. My mum had it on vhs, then later again on dvd - still got the dvd. Had no idea any of it was supposed to be serious 😂😂
And regarding the wig, I think my little brother been trying to look like that irl for years 😂🤣🤣
@22:29 whoooaaa talking about a chocolate Easter bunny boy. 😂 I'm dead. He said it look like they put perm on chocolate pudding. 🤣😂
20:39 Corey does a spot on Eddie Murphy impression!
😂 because he is Eddie Murphy
Its one of those bad movies that I enjoy watching 😂😂😂😂
If you enjoyed it can’t you say it’s a good film ?.
I looooved this film! Both Eddie and Angela were huge crushes for me in this film. They're both hot as hell in this. It's got great makeup. Great setting. Quotable lines. I still return to this film.
I agree about both Eddie and Angela being hot in this movie that's probably another reason I liked it as a kid because it probably low-key appealed to my bisexuality without me realizing it yet lol. 😂
The laughter torture of Billy lmao 🤣🤣🤣🤣
No joke.,that wig n contact lenses did scare the shit out of me, idk why but it did
It's bad but it's so good lol
"Goddamnit!"
@@brandonspain12345 🤣🤣
Back in the day when he did Beverly Hill Cop 3 he didn't wanna be funny in it.. He wanted to do it as a serious role..
Nick Ashford 😂😂😂😂😂😂 He did look like that dude in that movie! Solid as a Rock!
I really love this movie as a kid and as an adult I still love it I don’t know why It got all the heat that it did. It was honestly a very enjoyable, comedy and horror movie at the same time
This is how you know people are funny, when you disagree and they can still make you laugh. I actually like a lot of those "bad" Murphy movies they mentioned but I still thought what was said was funny so I watched.
