There’s an early script for Jurassic Park 4 (later retitled Jurassic World) with the exact same premise. Basically a new character named Nick Harris is recruited by John Hammond to find it so that their team can create a breed of sterile dinosaurs that can wipe out all the dinosaurs that are escaping to the mainland from Isla Sonar and Nublar.

I'm honestly fine with the gymnastics scene, it's the Raptor's stunned look that kills me every time🤣🤣🤣 But I'm kinda glad they let the kid do something useful instead of just being a person that needs to be rescued.
The little girl getting mauled by compys happens in the first book and she is indeed fine and recovers quickly. Hammond actually gets killed and eaten by compys in the first book. Malcom’s daughter isn’t in the second book instead there are two kids that are students of one of the other characters, and they hide in those special custom RV’s that are flown by plane.

Apparently the Compsognathus in the novelization of the film are venomous. Which would've been excellent to add in the film and explain why he doesn't just kick them.
I think they actually explained the lysine deficiency being solved by the dinosaurs feeding on beans and other stuff which contains it, while the carnivores feed on the herbivores in order to acquire it. Also, it’s more funny to me how many people are annoyed by that gymnastic scene than the scene in itself. I can see how it might be a bit much for some, but usually getting the attention of a wild animal and moving oddly is something they end up observing because they don’t know how to react to it. It’s not that odd for an animal to do, in my opinion at least. However, having two kids fixing an old ass car which is older than them and driving away with it, although the gasoline should have expired by then, that’s a different story.
Oh!! So growing up I was OBSESSED with dinosaurs. I was young enough that The Lost World released around the time I was old enough to start being aware and form memories. It was my introduction to the franchise as I actually had no idea there was a first Jurassic Park until a few years later. I've personally always loved the film, even for some of its weaker and more curious moments.
I was 6 when the first one came out, its probably the first movie I have memories of seeing in theater, and that kicked off my total dinosaur obsession. So I remember loving this one, too. I mean, there was a baby T-Rex, I wanted one _so_ much. I didn't care if it'd absolutely eat me, even as a 10 year old I knew itd be worth it (wait, everyone else thinks getting eaten by a dinosaur would be worth it to get to see a dinosaur, right?)
Eddie’s death is so much worse in the novel. He is dragged down from a tree by a pack of raptors and they tear him apart. The characters then run into the raptors later on and see them still eating his remains. He died protecting the kids though, so he dies a hero in both versions of The Lost World
I remember when I was a kid we went to see this in the theater and I was blown away. Totally loved it. Rewatched it several times over the years and it got worse every time. Now I'm pretty sure it was never that good, I was just a kid.
Spielberg directed this movie via Skype due to his wife being hospitalized. That's why it's nothing like the book which is way more intense. Chameleon Carnotaurs, Dogson the guy who hired Denis Nedry gets killed trying to steal a t rex baby, a chase scene with the raptors on motorcycles through the compound and Peter Ludlow getting killed when he joins Roland to hunt the t rex
@@ChanoCYBER9Avila LOL!!!!!!!! Skype debuted in 2003 The Lost World debuted in 1997. Please explain the 'time travel', of Spielberg😝 ...you know, in the real world...
IMO this movie has one of the best movie trailers ever. I think one of the first trailers to don’t have a narrataion. Plus the backdraft score along with dinosaurs super cool
I still love this movie. I watched it twice this year already: Once too celebrate the 25th Anniversary and twice for my Jurassic Park Marathon in preparation for Dominion.
For me the biggest difference that still maintain a big quality gap between this movie and the new generation's ones, is the omnipresent feeling of raw danger. I don't feel safe for those characters, ever.
I really enjoyed "The Lost World" when it came out, but I still preferred the 1st film over it. when it was Practical effects, it looked good, but the CGI was a bit jarring. the T-rex rampage in San Diego was pretty cool tho.
I disagree on the cgi. I think it's better than the first film since the first film had a lot of good cgi because it was filmed at night. While here they're able to capture better cgi during the day.
Your memory failed you, Korey. A deadman did not release the T-rex, he pressed the button to contain him in the cargo hold before he died from his injuries. Granted the dead man's grip keeps changing inbetween shots, including a close up of him pressing down on the open/green button instead of the red/close button. That's on Speilberg. Forgetting the scenes leading to the actual open of the cargo hold, that's on you.
I've loved this film since Day 1. And the other sequels, as well as time, has redeemed The Lost World: Jurassic Park. It'll never be better than the first film, but it's pure entertainment.
Such nostalgia I have for this film & I know its nowhere near perfect but it also does not deserve the hate it gets. I've never understood the negativity it gets, I think its a really solid sequel to one of the best films of all time. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdumb holds the award of worst film in the franchise.
If there is one thing the Jurrasic World trilogy has accomplished, it's getting me to appreciate the JP sequels so much more. JP 2 & 3 are like masterpieces compared to Fallen Kingdom alone.
@@lunathekuduruk1311 mannnn lol I always hated the ending of JP3. I still do but at least I was intrigued with the film..I fell out on Dominion. Literally felt like it was a waste of my time and it makes me sad cause I'm a fanatic

Really? I thought the continuity with that flying tire with more air time than Jordan & that acme acres sound effect on the projectile truck slang in the tree was much worse. But, the affirmation Malcolm was a true practitioner of his preaching, in ya best Goldblum impression “whoever, whoever could predicted that Dr. Malcolm all sudden would be raising a black teenager girl? The essence of chaos!”
I do love this movie. It's jus fun and how terrifying they make the raptors picking folks off makes it even better. But what's better than any of this..Kory's transitions to sponsors 😆🤣😂
Being a big Godzilla fan watching the last 30 minutes as a kid on release was my favorite part, but as an adult it's ridiculous but still entertaining.
I honestly think this film is one of the greatest adventure films ever made. It’s incredibly well crafted and had a unique identity that differentiates itself from the first movie without feeling like it’s in a different continuity. It’s an underrated masterpiece. Gymnastics aside.
I loved this one when it first came out and I still love it today. It may have some cheesy moments but Spielberg sure knows how to stage some great action.
of course John Hammond is insane! remember that period when John thought he was Santa Clause? stuff got real weird after Jurassic Park didn't work out.😂
@@Abrakadabro666 The dude killed by Compys was only there because Vaughn released the animals, wrecking the camp and sending them into the jungle. The guy killed in San Diego would be very much alive if Vaughn hadn't stolen the bullets from the guy about to shoot the Rex.
It’s not bad. The tall grass scene and the trailer hanging from the cliff scene were all good. The San Diego scene was bad unnecessary and had some plot holes.
I want to say the original script called for the scenes with ultimately were cut either do to budget or being to ambitious, so that's why they rewrote the San Diego scenes which make no sense in this film.
I have a very vivid memory of watching this movie in the theater as a little kid, absolutely terrified, then at the part they show at 39:58 hearing my dad next to me go "Hey look, Hawaiian Punch!" At the time I think I was mad he was making light of the moment with somebody getting eaten (I was literally watching through my semi-closed fingers), but looking back that was funny af! 🤣🤣
I find trophy hunting morally repugnant. Extremely so. So I wasn't too bothered by Nick almost getting Roland killed. Hunt because you're going to eat something? That's fine. Hunt because you want to show how badass you are and mount something's head on your wall? Don't care what happens to you then.
They dont say it in the movies but in the universe of Jurassic park, the compys are venomous, that's why they dude was starting to stumble more and more after the compy attack and then eventually seems like he gives up and dies after the last attack. The venom eventually just set it and he became to weak to fight back or get up
I’m british and I remember seeing this with my parents at the Chinese theatre in Los Angeles when it came out on its opening weekend. I just remember the experience of LA and seeing this with my parents as a 12 year old. So much nostalgia.
The opening minutes are masterful. The rich family picnicking on the beach and the little girl stumbling on the little dinos. The mom comes running up and there’s a shot of the her screaming and then we cut to Jeff Goldblum yawning in a subway with the squeal of a passing train taking over the mom’s scream. The transition is up there with the Lawrence of Arabia match cut, and 2001’s bone/spacecraft cut. It’s the best sequel to the original than any of the others by an epoch or two…
1:50 I agree with you, I don’t understand how so many people hated this movie. This had everything we wanted! Dinosaurs chasing and eating people. What else did you want?
Still my favourite Jurassic Park movie. I remember hearing that the scene at the end with Jeff Goldblum and Julianne Moore watching TV on the couch, you can see Steven Spielberg sitting between them in the reflection on the TV screen.
For all of its faults, I still unapologetically & unabashedly love The Lost World to this very day, and I always will. It's my second favorite Jurassic film. 🤷♂ JP > JP: TLW > JW > JW:FK > JP3
@nemo pouncey - Alright then. I did read a few years ago that her house was broken into and a lot of her JP memorabilia that she had was stolen. I hate people.
I watched this in the cinema when it came out and remember liking it very much. Even back then I remember thinking the last 15-20 minutes belonged in another movie, but everything before that was enjoyable. Definitely better than the third movie, and (probably) still way less stupid than any of the 3 Jurassic World movies. I'll always remember this one fondly.
oh man, I barely remember this movie... I do remember something about a Raptor being beaten with amateur gymnastics... a little fun game of "who dies next?" in a field... But I recall mostly scratching my head because I feel like there's a movie we missed, since we just ended up on a different island that already overrun with Dinos... It's like skipping directly to Resident Evil 3, without ever playing / knowing the first 2 games.
NGL, I like this one nearly as much as the first one. The first T-Rex attack in JP1 is flat out unbeatable and is one of the greatest action scenes in movie history. The rest of J.P. 1 is just meh to me. IMO, every action sequence in JP2 was better than any of the scenes in JP2, except for maybe the raptor hunting those annoying kids in the kitchen. I HATED those first two kids! "It's a veggiesaurus, Lex! A veggiesaurus!" is one of the worst lines I've ever heard in a blockbuster movie. I know kids have super strong plot armor in Spielberg films, but I so wished those kids would get ate up. The Lost World kid was a huge upgrade to me. No despicably horrible lines, and she even has a passable action scene using her gymnastics skills. I liked that scene dammit! 😂 And more Goldblum. Goldblum and Laura Dern were my favorite characters in the first film. Nedry, Samuel L Jackson, and the Great White Hunter were good too, but barely in it. Postlewait as Great White Hunter II was really good, and I liked most of the other supporting cast, even Vince Vaughn, the Latino dude with the headphones, and Peter Stomare. The boat scene with the dead crew was confusing and just bad, but I'll take it if it I get the absence of Hammond's obnoxious grandkids in return.
Y'all cut out the y'alls reaction to the baby T-Rex eating the main villain. The chat made a joke about how the adult T-Rex was standing there looking like "Yeah that's my boy" lol. I was gonna say that I always thought that as a child watching this 😂😂😂😂.
Raptors were originally supposed to be on the boat that's why I was such a bloodbath but I think any film lover can all agree that Spielberg made the right decision on focusing more on Schindler's list it sucks but generally this is by far one of the best movies he's ever made
I remember seeing an interview where wildlife filmmaker David Attenborough said he takes absolute care when filming around animals. Shame his brother didn't when he opened Jurassic Park.
The best scenes were the grass scene, bloody waterfall scene, the cliff scene, and the ending rampage in San Diego. Other than that, it’s incredibly slow and the characters are kind of blank slates
You know they all could fit in that car like two in the front 3 in the back. That thing (Even if not in a muddy environment) wouldn't have been able to pull that the trailer up but it would be able to pull everyone else up.
For me, the dumbest death is during the rampage in San Diego, where some unlucky bastard (his actual name in the credits) is singled out by the t-rex. He's clearly played by someone of note, in this case screenwriter David Koepp, and his hammed-up 'dying noise' as he's chomped is mixed much louder than all of the other sound in the scene.
This video is late! You guys missed the movies 25th anniversary last month Missed it in theaters but I think my dad bought the vhs It's not as good as the first movie The effects aren't as grand, the characters aren't memorable, and the whole animal rights issue backfires when the people trying to advocate for it constantly make it worse It also deviates heavily from the book But it did lead to some cool toys and more dinosaurs This was was also my first introduction to Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn At least John Williams' score still rules and the chase in San Diego with the t-rex is different
It’s always good to see Girts on set

It’s better than the yearly stampede of con-goers from Comic Con.
@@Emplordxiii LOL im one of them
Eddie’s death is so much worse in the novel.
God I love this movie. Not as much as this review though and not enough to not tear into it🤣
The guy on the motorcycle going under the Mamenchisaurus was my favorite part of the movie as a kid 🙃
20:55 "She's fine, she's fine." Meanwhile my boy Hammond clutching that "Sensitive Material: Warning" book like it's Jones Seniors Holy Grail diary.
Even when he directs half assed, Spielberg still directs an infinitely better film than a passionate Jurassic World director.
correction...passionate (for profits) Jurassic World director, who got what he wanted.
No lost world was trash
Spielberg directed this movie via Skype due to his wife being hospitalized. That's why it's nothing like the book which is way more intense. Chameleon Carnotaurs, Dogson the guy who hired Denis Nedry gets killed trying to steal a t rex baby, a chase scene with the raptors on motorcycles through the compound and Peter Ludlow getting killed when he joins Roland to hunt the t rex
@@ChanoCYBER9Avila LOL!!!!!!!! Skype debuted in 2003
The Lost World debuted in 1997. Please explain the 'time travel', of Spielberg😝
...you know, in the real world...
Jurassic World did a better job capturing the spirit of the original JP but Lost World is just more intense and scarier.
Lovin' these RETRO REVIEWS! Thanks for keeping us entertained
Lnto take
For me the biggest difference that still maintain a big quality gap between this movie and the new generation's ones, is the omnipresent feeling of raw danger. I don't feel safe for those characters, ever.
The whole confusion with the daughter brings me back to the Jefferson neighbors and their strikingly white son.
I really enjoyed "The Lost World" when it came out, but I still preferred the 1st film over it. when it was Practical effects, it looked good, but the CGI was a bit jarring. the T-rex rampage in San Diego was pretty cool tho.
The CGI was way better than the first film
JP3 is horrible.
Dominion made me even more grateful for jp3
@@lunathekuduruk1311 mannnn lol I always hated the ending of JP3. I still do but at least I was intrigued with the film..I fell out on Dominion. Literally felt like it was a waste of my time and it makes me sad cause I'm a fanatic
@@theTruthSeekerishere I mean overall yes but there were some really cool scenes and set pieces
@@chris_allupinya5613 It had potential but didn’t have enough action and the locust shit wasn’t needed at all.
Shame that’s how the series went out, though I’m glad they didn’t kill any of the main cast
“Don’t go where you’re going!” “Don’t go where you are!” 😂
The movie was very flawed but it did had great music. It felt like a grand jungle adventure.
This movie does have good parts like the cliff scene with Julianne Moore and the glass, but it does have a Iot of dumb parts like Jeff Goldblum’s daughter taking out a dinosaur with gymnastics
Fallen Kingdom has more dumb parts and characters compared to this.
The effects still look really good.
I do love this movie. It's jus fun and how terrifying they make the raptors picking folks off makes it even better. But what's better than any of this..Kory's transitions to sponsors 😆🤣😂
Until they get to the compound and it becomes the Keystone Cops
Being a big Godzilla fan watching the last 30 minutes as a kid on release was my favorite part, but as an adult it's ridiculous but still entertaining.
Retro Review and Bad Review are my favorite about Double Toasted and they did great reviews and very entertaining too.
I honestly think this film is one of the greatest adventure films ever made. It’s incredibly well crafted and had a unique identity that differentiates itself from the first movie without feeling like it’s in a different continuity. It’s an underrated masterpiece. Gymnastics aside.
Nah it’s really stupid.
@@ech78928 oof.
I actually really liked this movie, but weirdly the first thing that I think of when it's mentioned is the gymnastics.
An the score is FANTASTIC too.
I loved this one when it first came out and I still love it today. It may have some cheesy moments but Spielberg sure knows how to stage some great action.
of course John Hammond is insane! remember that period when John thought he was Santa Clause? stuff got real weird after Jurassic Park didn't work out.😂
@nemo pouncey I know that Hammond dies in the book, so does Malcolm technically(he somehow is alive in the lost world book).
I've said for years that Vince Vaughn is the true villain of this movie. Literally every death in the movie is the direct result of his actions.
The dude killed by compys wasn't his fault.
The guy killed in San Diego wasn't his fault.
What? 😅
@@Abrakadabro666 The dude killed by Compys was only there because Vaughn released the animals, wrecking the camp and sending them into the jungle.
The guy killed in San Diego would be very much alive if Vaughn hadn't stolen the bullets from the guy about to shoot the Rex.
The tone and mean spiritedness kinda reminds me of Mars Attacks. I think that deserves a REview.
After the World films, I kinda have a new appreciation for this movie, it's not the first one, but it's a fun time
came across this channel recently, love it🥰
I thought the bit with the black guy screaming in the tall grass was gonna be the highlight intro.
I thought it was a decent sequel. I really like the dinosaur scenes in the lost world, especially the trex attacking the city
55:25 not a plot hole. Juvenile rex was flown in.
24:39 Korey mimicking a dinosaur squishing motorists never gets old 😂
Same for 26:07 😂
Damn I was hoping Billy was in this review to hear that laugh haha!!!
I have a very vivid memory of watching this movie in the theater as a little kid, absolutely terrified, then at the part they show at 39:58 hearing my dad next to me go "Hey look, Hawaiian Punch!"
At the time I think I was mad he was making light of the moment with somebody getting eaten (I was literally watching through my semi-closed fingers), but looking back that was funny af!
🤣🤣
That Crunch when the dude got ate at the waterfall😢😢😳😳😖
I find trophy hunting morally repugnant. Extremely so. So I wasn't too bothered by Nick almost getting Roland killed. Hunt because you're going to eat something? That's fine. Hunt because you want to show how badass you are and mount something's head on your wall? Don't care what happens to you then.
41:02 Lady and the Tramp No!😂🤣😂🤣
47:36 is Martin everytime Korey sneak in an ad read 😂😂😂😂
They dont say it in the movies but in the universe of Jurassic park, the compys are venomous, that's why they dude was starting to stumble more and more after the compy attack and then eventually seems like he gives up and dies after the last attack. The venom eventually just set it and he became to weak to fight back or get up
Raptors in the grass: enemy spotted
It’s the best sequel to the original than any of the others by an epoch or two…
My mom laughed when he got Tim got shocked off the fence too!🤣
We all did 🤣🤣🤣🤣
1:50 I agree with you, I don’t understand how so many people hated this movie.
26:07
Dino Corey: Excuse me?! You hunting what?! I'll give you such a pinch!
I was on the floor 🤣
Gertz actually looks like a grown man now. Lol
OMG, that camera man!!! HAHAHAHAHA!!!! I never noticed that till now.
This was the movie that introduced me to the Jurassic Park franchise and I love the hell out of it.
In the lost world comic when that guy gets stomped it's actually quite Gruesome cause blood splatters everywhere.
I honestly love this film.. i watched it loads as a kid
I enjoyed this movie. I remember seeing it when I was 9 years old in the theater. Jurassic Park 3 however, deserves a bad movie roast.
For all of its faults, I still unapologetically & unabashedly love The Lost World to this very day, and I always will. It's my second favorite Jurassic film. 🤷♂
JP > JP: TLW > JW > JW:FK > JP3
@nemo pouncey - Alright then. I did read a few years ago that her house was broken into and a lot of her JP memorabilia that she had was stolen. I hate people.
26:49 Roland didn’t break the baby Rex’s leg, Peter Ludlow fell on the babies leg while he was drunk in a deleted scene 28:32 that was Peter’s.
And more Goldblum.
Good to see Girtz, hope he's around for future Retro reviews
Y'all cut out the y'alls reaction to the baby T-Rex eating the main villain. The chat made a joke about how the adult T-Rex was standing there looking like "Yeah that's my boy" lol. I was gonna say that I always thought that as a child watching this 😂😂😂😂.
I love the fact the motto for this movie was More Bigger Better
Man you guys are the best show on the Internet. I love it. I subscribe and always thumbs up love to see this contact keep it going guys.
The funny thing is in the thread one they tried to solve the problem with the kids. I think they did. Being human have to love it.
If White Chicks and Vampire in Brooklyn got a bad movie roast, nobody's exempt
anyone remember that lost world arcade game?
57:36 DX!
Raptors were originally supposed to be on the boat that's why I was such a bloodbath but I think any film lover can all agree that Spielberg made the right decision on focusing more on Schindler's list it sucks but generally this is by far one of the best movies he's ever made
It's quite surreal seeing the greatest director ever just not caring. It's like seeing MJ giving up during a playoff game when down 20 points.
I remember seeing an interview where wildlife filmmaker David Attenborough said he takes absolute care when filming around animals.
Shame his brother didn't when he opened Jurassic Park.
Peter Stormare’s death as a kid fucked me up
You should watch the rest of Jurassic world camp Cretaceous lol
The best scenes were the grass scene, bloody waterfall scene, the cliff scene, and the ending rampage in San Diego.
Other than that, it’s incredibly slow and the characters are kind of blank slates
Always thought I heard Jeff Goldblums laugh from JP1 during the part when they are helping the baby trex.
I wish billy was there for the gymnastic kick
Ahem let me stand in for him:" KYHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! YUCKK YUCKK HAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!
You know they all could fit in that car like two in the front 3 in the back. That thing (Even if not in a muddy environment) wouldn't have been able to pull that the trailer up but it would be able to pull everyone else up.
43:40 That's actually slightly more subtle than how they set up the girl's hacking skills in the first movie.
The sound effect of the baby t-rex crying is a baby camel crying for its mother
For me, the dumbest death is during the rampage in San Diego, where some unlucky bastard (his actual name in the credits) is singled out by the t-rex. He's clearly played by someone of note, in this case screenwriter David Koepp, and his hammed-up 'dying noise' as he's chomped is mixed much louder than all of the other sound in the scene.
The two T-Rex eating Eddie....equals the scene from Lady & The Tramp. 😆
This video is late!
You guys missed the movies 25th anniversary last month
Missed it in theaters but I think my dad bought the vhs
It's not as good as the first movie
The effects aren't as grand, the characters aren't memorable, and the whole animal rights issue backfires when the people trying to advocate for it constantly make it worse
It also deviates heavily from the book
But it did lead to some cool toys and more dinosaurs
This was was also my first introduction to Julianne Moore and Vince Vaughn
At least John Williams' score still rules and the chase in San Diego with the t-rex is different
It’s my favorite Jeff goldbum performance
This was still better than JP3.
