I bought a 35 a few months ago when I started, and my boss bought the 75. I was a bit jealous because of how his looked, but when we play together, I really do prefer the sound of my 35. Maybe I'm a bit biased because it's mine, but I don't think that's entirely the case. Great reviews on the 35.
I actually like the 35 a little better in this video. Despite that, I have a 36 on order since I liked that one a little better than the 35. I don't care one bit for the looks. I was a little worried that a 75 might have been a better choice, but after this video I'm pretty certain that I made the right call.
Is there anything tone wise or playability wise that makes the 75 different and/or better than the 35? Or are they essentially the same banjo with a different design?
Nice demo, the 75 gets the cosmetic votes but towards the pot it does sound brighter. While researching banjos available, even used I came across the M5. In my day we had M16's so the modern day rifle of M5 made me grin and I clicked on it. WOW! Out of my price range but what a beauty.
@@JimPankey Thanks a lot. I always liked these banjos but the specs say 5/32 at the nut. For a fat finger guy like myself. I like at least 1/4 at the nut.. fyi anyone shopping.
Still think the rk35 has the edge tone wise. The 75 is a bit thin and steely sounding for me. The 35 sounds well balanced with warm base and crisp overtones. Would love to own an rk 35. Lovely banjo especially when you play it Jim! 👍
Eddie sets his banjo up a little brighter than mine, but he also goes to a lot of jam sessions and festivals and I understand why he does it. Both are great options. :) Thanks for watching.
It's all about mid-range.. One has more mid-range than the other.. But neither one of them has the low mids and depth of a good Gibson or a stelling.. Or one of the better Deering instruments. But they both have pretty good crack

Ive got both and it depends on the day which one i prefer...ive played all day and tge Elite is still in the case ;)
Love listening to you play, Jimbo. It has a lifting effect on me. It's so fluid and beautiful.

The 75 has a longer scale length. Seems to make the banjo a little more responsive.

Good explanation Jim...Actually, they both sound real nice to me for the prices you're quoting...Jack
Is one wider at the nut than another? always like em to feel wide at the nut
They’re both the same

What's the difference in scale length between the RK-35 and the RK-75? Thanks.
Lew
Awesome!
Street price is $800 on the 35 and $1500 on the 75.
Are these USA made?
No
Darn I was really interested in one. I'll stick with deering I guess. Love the videos Jim.
A Deering of any similar quality to either of these banjos will cost about $3500
@@JimPankey wow! Okay then this is still on my radar then. Thx
@@JimPankey So you think these are of higher quality than the Sierra?
Jim your posts sold me on a RK35 but the prices continue to rise, there up to a $1000 now for a rk25
Think i liked the 35 best
Both great choices. I love my 35.
rk-75 sounds more like a pre war tbh, but both sound really good !
Which prewar? They all sound different.

well the price of these Chinese manufactured banjos are within the means of people like me who cannot afford a Gibson or one of the better Deerings.
I like the sound of the 35 better but I love the 75 cometics
It’s hard to tell from the video, but both are incredibly good banjos.
sound ok
Bro, it looks like the 75 was left out in the sun too long and warped the bridge.
The Moon Bridge is on the RK35 and it’s suppose to be that way.
@@JimPankey haha I know just goofin with you, I like to I like to use the compensated bridge on my Gold Tone BG-250F
I mean prices are near a $1000 now for a RK 35, and still worth more
that is a decent price for such a banjo.
I do believe your R-35 is much better sounding then the 75
35 sounds better too me.
I do like my 35.
