    This video helped me decide to order this banjo. I watched several videos on different banjos in this price range, and settled on the RK-36.

    Thanks for showcasing some tonal variety playing closer to the neck like Bela Fleck does. Everyone's after that super twangy bluegrass tone right up near the bridge.

    Thanks for sharing this with us John. Excellent all-rounder. Very nice sound, every string, every fret. Love the Mahogany sound.

    I have one coming my way, the seller checks and sets it up for me and installs a few spikes before sending it to me so I'll be all set and ready to fall in love with a new instrument. Thanks for the video.

    Thanks, John for the demo. I need to do a comparo in a store between the RK 35 and RK 36. Seems to me, the RK35 is more mellow and the RK 36 seems to present a more "crisp" sound. Looking to check out the "lows" in the camparison, too. Seems that great players like yourself like to customize their new purchases. Wonder what I can expect from either one just out of the box?

    • @JohnBoulding
      @JohnBoulding  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Generally speaking maple is brighter than mahogany. Mahogany has a different kind of treble. But tone can vary by banjo regardless of wood. I'm glad the video was helpful. What you can expect out of the box is to be very impressed with the sound and playability of these banjos! I did set mine up myself, obviously, but even bone stock with factory set up, they sound great. You will be really happy with this banjo.

    This video helped cement my decision to buy an RK. Now I just need to spend every waking moment practicing so I can achieve even a small amount of the skill you displayed at the end of the video. Wow! Do you teach? Great video, thanks

    You'll be hard pressed to find a better banjo than an Rk, for the money. You'll be very happy with any model you get. My Rk-36 is about 7 months old now and has settled in to be a great banjo. Heck, my old Gibson hardly gets played since getting it,haha.

    Enjoyed the video, especially the playing. Since your a luthier (spelling?) maybe you could help me greatly with a reply. I'm disabled with a pretty intense spinal issue that is terminal but with great caution might make it a few years. Money is a big issue so I'm wondering if I could search for damaged banjos and part one together. If for example from the same brand, are the necks all interchangable?

    • @JohnBoulding
      @JohnBoulding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike, I will be praying for your situation! Necks are some Ikea interchangeable sometimes they need some fitting to get the proper action. There are two main types of neck fits: one piece flange and two piece. Let me know via PM if I can be of any help getting the banjo project going

May as well try and buy one made. Hopefully the boss takes me quick when time comes. Pray for America and those left behind in Afghanistan, please.

      @@JohnBoulding I have to figure out how to use this small I - pad, take photos and save them , make a ebay account and sell some things in storage. I m in a storage room in my daughter's rental basement as she has a heard of Kids. Otherwise no income as you have to have recent and on going medical to file for disability and you have to have a job or ... It's just crazy. Illegals flood in and are getting hotels paid for, instant services and we haven't solved a homeless Chris right here. Daughter brought me from SD to NE and there is no healthcare for single males until 65 and I'm 61. Just telling it like it is, no pity please I pray for others everyday and died on the table once getting a fusion back in 2001. It wasn't until last year I got diagnosed with spinal stenosis inside the spinal cavity and told there is no treatment and it always kills you. The doc looked slightly stunned when I wasn't dramatic or shocked. I'm ready to exit when the time comes. Our life is not our own and it's temporary here. Ok that was slot ... I don't get visitors so I over communicate, hope that didn't drive you nuts. ghostThey at both great banjos for the money. If you have the chance to play both, make your decision that way. For the money, the RK is really hard to beat. But Deering is a long time American banjo company and makes great instruments too. I'm not much help, am I ..lol. It's great to have choices. I use an RK 36 and have for three years now and it does a great job for me

      They all have the same pot assembly, so you chose the wood you like. I prefer the 36 myself.

    My 4th RK 35 came w a plastic nut and pip....? Did they not realize this was not a good thing to do....?
    Is not a hard thing to change but they must have realized was a mistake because my later RKs came w a bone nut.
    The tension hoop also appears not to be brass( pot metal )
    A brass hoop is way better sounding.

    You say it has the same pot as the rk35 so what makes them sound so different in your comparison video? I'm interested! Just learning about banjos!

    • @JohnBoulding
      @JohnBoulding  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crestwood Music Shop , the woods used for the neck have an impact on tone. Mahogany is a softer wood than maple. Of course none of this is set in stone. You can make generalizations about banjos and their tone based on the wood but ultimately they are like people, with distinct personalities. In "general" maple is a brighter, more focused tone producer, while mahogany is sweeter with more of an open tone.
