  • Hi! Thanks for visiting the channel!
    In this video, I am having a look at the Trumpeter USS Texas in 1/700 scale.
    It only comes with waterline configuration, so a small ocean base is also made.
    The colours of the deck and hull might be a little too dark in the end result.
    The music was taken from:

    Excellent job, for the water base, I would recommend putting tamiya clear on it before adding in the sea foam, as well as afterwards adding in tamiya clear blue on the tips of waves. This adds to a much for beautiful look and adds a lot of realism to the diorama. Great diorama!

    Definitely going to think about this one. If I do build it, I’ll make a display to try to match its museum ship status.

    Thanks for sharing. The waterline hull was a big disappointment to me too. "Five Star" offer an outstanding detail set for this model. Maybe someone will offer a resin transkit for the other half of the ship Trumpeter forgot to include.

    Very nice and it looks like how the USS Texas looks now I toured that ship many times since I live in Houston. She is now on her way to a full restoration.

      Thanks very much! Did they raise enough funds to restore her? last i have heard there was too little money to fixing her hull integrity, but those are great news! this piece of living history must not rot away before our eyes, it would be very sad! Hope they find many helpers to save her!

    Im ordering this kit! And the Surcof! Really want to try some techniques out ive seen! You do really good work! Just an FYI for you. On US ships the ensign is flown on the main truck( mast) usually aft while under way. Anchored or moored tje ensign is flown at the stern with the Union Jack at the bow.

      I wish i could visit some of the museum ships in the US, the Texas must be a sight! such an old vessel, still afloat. But I've heard they have issues with funding for repairs and it is slowly decaying. hopefully it doesn't come that far

    Congratulations, great job. Please, would you be so kind as to tell me what product did you used to make the water foam effects? It can't be seen very well in the video but I really like the effect it leaves on such a small scale. I see it's an AK Interactive product but i can't identify it. Thanks.

    When I got mine, it was supposed to be new, but it came from China and customs opened it and I thought they lost the lower hull I was furious then after going through the kit I realized it was WL only and saw the inevitable direction with their 1/700 line of waterline only kits

    Well, only the two, New York, and Texas were built--that was USN practice at a time, two ship of a Class would be built, then sent out into the Fleet and tested in real life as it were.
    New York was expended in the Operation Crossroads Bravo test, and is on the bottom of Bikini atoll.
    USS Texas was the first ship ever deliberately preserved by USN as a museum ship in 1947. She's spent more time as a museum--73 years, 1947-2020--than as a serving battleship--32 years, 1914-1946.
    Trumpeter has done you no favors on the colors. Deck Blue is (barely) a distinct shade from Navy Blue. And both are very definitely blue than black or gray (and do not match the Navy Blue used on USN aircraft). Also, the radar fit and after mast shape are more appropriate to how she looked at Normandy, when she would have been in Measure 22, and not the Measure 21
    (Ref: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_II_ship_camouflage_measures_of_the_United_States_Navy)
    The jackstaff is very wrong, too.
    The US flag would not be flown there, either. Underway, the US flag flies from a designated yardarm on the aftermost mast a ship has. Moored, the Union Jack flies from the jackstaff, andn a suitable US flag flies from the flagstaff in the stern.
    I've spent a lot of time on Texas, and had the privilege to go into areas not generally open to the public. So, every bit of a build of this ship catches my eye. I've been to those places, stood on those decks.

      Very interesting, thanks for the informations! I was never on a ship bigger than 15 meters so i have not much references in real life. So every help is welcome, thanks again! I really try to avoid the older US battleships in their WW2 color schemes, that blue drives me nuts lol. I am about to start the Texas sister ship (New York) going to go with some bright interwar colors....just to save my sanity

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, they all seem extremely dark, in a model, its hard to achieve something other than dark matter absorbing all light and swallowing all details. Brighter colours are also more fun to weather.
      I also have the uss new york in my stash, do you know what's the difference between texas and new york?

    • @glenchapman3899

      Hello! I do not know exactly, but im quite sure it is a 2nd world war setup, from what i could see looking at pictures. it doesnt have the lattice masts of the commissioning, and seems to have a more advanced radar than the interwar period version. but I'm no expert. Thanks

    I was going to make this model but I don’t have an airbrush. What one color of like Tamiya spray paint would you recommend for the measure 21 camouflage.

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that the navy blue from measure 21 is best replicated with Field Blue from Tamiya, but i dont know if they have spray cans of that colour. You could also try brush painting, the tamiya colours have good coverage properties when used with brush - but you'd still need some layers until you get a good base coat where you can start painting the correct colours

      @@funinscale2892 I found a navy blue color spray can from tamiya. What do you think about that color?

    • @funinscale2892
      @funinscale2892  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@snookindustriesproductions4166 Navy blue is the actual colour for the camouflage, i think, so i guess it is a safe bet. if it is too "blue" you can tone it down with a grey or black thin wash to make it less royal blue- I'm sure this would make a good model. but it is also quite small in 1/700 so a whole spray can is quite costly and you wont need very much. maybe order some more us navy ships before so the can doesn't dry. More models are always good :-)
