I crewed on a M88 recovery tank and drove a M543 wrecker for a year of my tour of duty in Vietnam. Our M88 had a fifty caliber gun on top, a forty five caliber grease gun in side, a M60 machine gun 7.62 caliber, and 24 hand grenades also. Plus we had to bring our personal M16s with us whenever we out into the field. The M88 could do twenty-five to thirty MPH and weighted fifty tons. When we went down the highways all the locals couldn't get out of our way fast enough. It was still a gas V12 engine and if you stood behind it when it was running the fumes would choke you the breath out of you.
