To me that was an expression of standing atop the shoulders of giants, including them standing on their own, leading you the player where you need to be. Long after their untimely demise.
Funnily enough, I've always felt the opposite. The nomai's climbing atop each other to reach as far as they could towards the light in the sky, it filled me with hope. I guess, it just reminds me that no matter what, and no matter how useless it may be in the end, we will always reach towards the sky. And hope.
Not sure if this would change your perspective, but I think those skeletons are all Solanum. On every location except the eye, Solanum's corpse can be found on the Quantum Moon. The Eye is the only place she's alive. 5 locations, 5 dead versions of herself leading you to the living one.
I played this with my ex girlfriend. Weirdly enough, the game now helps me cope with the break-up. So much of it's essence and energy says "dont cry cuz its over, smile cuz it happened" and man, I couldn't be more thankful that the game sticks with me - my brain, my soul.
Solanum's piano has always been my favourite part of Travelers, and I'll be damned if you didn't make it sound amazing. Amazing work, dude. Keep it up.

I worked it out by ear, so unfortunately I don't have any sheet music. However, a channel called "MikoWorks!" has some great tutorials they put up recently for the soundtrack
