will be interesting, especially since Tesla's model 3 - codename highlander (there can only be one?) will be updated and might be coming with a highly competitive price tag as well. Tesla is on fire right now since their model Y is dominating the eSUV market.
The wirelessly charging message is actually common in other cars I've seen in China. I think it is a safety thing because people tend not to trust that the charging is working and would otherwise look down at the phone for confirmation. It's a bit obnoxious and big though so an option to make it a smaller popup would be a good idea. The wording is a translation issue, it will hopefully get better over time with OTAs. The "buzzer chime" is a safety thing so it is meant to be annoying, so it has to be distinct from other chimes I suppose. The boot / non-foldable back seat is why I'm not too interested in this car ... they had a wagon/estate concept of it though that they should definitely consider making, especially for the EU market.
@@ItsOnlyElectric Dont know for sure. DMis are PHEVs, which means they have gas engines under the hoods and may cause more complicated regulations and laws.
@@ItsOnlyElectric I have seen videos comparing Electrified vehicles reliability in china... BYD didn't rank well, while Model Y ranked best... I have sat in it last week here in Dubai in their showroom. They will be starting to sell it in Dubai from this year November, looking forward to buy it 👍
I think most countries don't have 3Phase power supply for home usage. Its usually for industrial heavy duty and transmission purpose, but step down to 110/220V single phase in substation before distribution. Perhaps its standard in Scandavia and some EU countries but I have been traveling quite extensively esp in Asia and so far what I see is 100% single phase. So BYD might not be incenticized to provide that extra cost feature for a limited market, expecting the local dealer to package a transformer instead since they are doubling the China's price for obscene high margin.
The updated version of the HAN (coming this summer) will support 3-phase. As you say, big parts of the world don't need 3 phase for this. Buy for countries that do, this is really a dealbreaker for a lot of customers.
Agree on the pro’s. Charging indeed is an issue. Byd told me that they won’t upgrade nor replace the AC charger as soon as 3*16A version becomes available. In 2023 model update will arrive. There is a mobile charging solution for sale on the webstores that transforms 3*16A AC to 10 kW DC, that will cost you ca 4k.
Thanks for your input and especially the transformer. Not that fun to invest 4k in though..haven't seen that kind of a converter. Guess you lose some energy during conversion.
@@ItsOnlyElectric on home wall chargers, you are bound to lose a bit electricity. it is a shame u have to invest 4k on an upgraded charger. byd gives and installs the 7kw wall charger for free for buyers of this car in china. 7kw is good enough for overnight charging.
7kW is perfectly fine. That's what I have on my home charger but running 3 phases (3x10A = 7kW). So the updated model with 3 phase support will be perfect
They appear to have software update issues also . I've owned the Han for a month now, and i've so far not received update that would enable the functions under DI-Pilot (automated lights, automated steering etc..)
My main concern about these cars is the connectivity. They usually need to connect to a chinese server, but if the server is down, the car won't start.
Thinking of purchasing after recently seeing the Han up close in China. From your full review, Is the half-second accelerator delay present at all speeds and in all driving modes? I’m hoping this isn’t the case.
Yes, that's my experience. But I didn't clock it, so 0.5s is my understanding. But you will probably only feel the delay if you come from an EV with no delay at all (For instance nio or Tesla). If you come from a combustion car you won't notice it at all.

Actually, this is a good quality car to begin with. But because most of us are western-oriented dudes anything coming from other countries that is NOT an EU or US product are already guilty as poor quality car. An example is the Lexus car. I have bought this car (version 2020) for two years and driven 40,000km, everything is fine, the only point is that its steering radius is too large, I need to pay attention when turning around, I use a 7KW charger at home, which is installed for free by BYD, and its fast charge (30-90%) can be maintained for a long time at 610V and 77A on a public high-speed charging station, the weakness of LFP batteries is that they are more sensitive to temperature, but the advantage is that they are more stable, I drive 100 kilometers a day and the electricity cost is only 0.60 € (4.5 RMB), because from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., charging can be half price in Shanghai of China.
byd home charger is 7kw. when u say 2kw, do u mean the portable charger? i have this ev and i can always get it fully recharged overnight at home, as i can get close to 7kw on 220v powerline. i suppose if i jack the voltage up to 380v i could get 11kw.
7kW max capacity but on 1 phase. So if you have as most of us in Sweden you will have 10 or 16amps per phase. And since I have 10amps per phase the charge speed is 2kw (10A x 220V = 2,2kW). In some countries this isn't a problem if you have higher current (A). Eg. 32Ax220v = 7kW. Do you know how many amps you can get out?
Everybody is talking about pros, so I won't be saying much except that the vehicle is really efficient and can actually achieve claimed range or even surpass it if A/C is off in moderate weather. They do in reverse! but when moving forward (even at speeds as low as 10km/h or less) they do not systematically activate ! The infotainment system operation and language is always an issue with Chinese vehicles (vehicles engineered and developed in China not just manufactured there like Tesla etc.) when they try to convert Chinese to English things get "lost in translation", this will change when native English speakers are hired to develop the software. In Australia BYD and MG have similar issues with sub-standard interfaces but the competition to Tesla from all brands is marvellous- it will only drive development of better and better cars and infrastructure
Any idea on the software updates roadmap/timeline ? Vendor claims carplay is coming before summer at any moment, but doesn't give any further information on it !
