Thank you so much for the information. I make knitted and crocheted clothes for the AGD. So I got the dolls from my granddaughter for my models. So I had to comb the hair out and didn't know how. Now I will go out and get everything I need thank you again.
I didn’t even make it through your video before I bought a AG salon cape kit and a treat seat😂 I love doing my girls’s hair but those 2 things, when you explained them solved 2 of my biggest annoyances when doing their hair lol😂

I'm really exited for this video! I bought a Courtney doll a while back and brushed her hair out completely when I was little. I also braided it into really tight hair styles and kept it like that for months, so this is going to be very helpful. I murdered Courtney's hair, and I've been trying to get it back the way it was, but it's not quite the same.

Great video, thank you. Instead of a regular toothbrush I buy a Denture set at the dollar store. It contains a small container and a brush with hard bristles. There seem to be more bristles than a regular brush and it works really well for me.
Maplelea also makes a rly nice brush!! A bonus is that its a cute baby blue

I just want to say (Sorry for being particular. This is important to me, too), hand sanitizer does kill germs, which is awesome. However, it will NOT get rid of dirt, grime, food residue, lotions, etc. I would recommend washing with soap and warm water and drying thoroughly unless you know your hands don't have anything on them.
I super appreciate all the tips, tricks and tools!! I'm an adult collector returning to American Girl and I've got an assortment of new and used dolls now. I actually decided to get Evette after watching your hair care video for her, because previously I was worried about how I would care for her (she's one of my fav dolls).

Ok I am a sucker for storage and organization but we don't have thecontainerstore in Canada. But... there are two near seattle so I may have to add it to my list next time I go. I have a unit dedicated to hair supplies but the containers don't match and defiantly could be organized more

And, yes, I used to use wig conditioning spray for my dolls’ hair. But now I use just water.
Chris, thanks for this video. Over the past month I've been falling in love with American Girl again. I did follow some bad advice and put leave-in conditioner in my spray bottle when trying to fix my JLM doll's hair. What do I need to do now? Is a full wash needed? How do I do that?
Wash her hair with synthetic wig shampoo and conditioner. Should bring it back.

Thank you so much for the information. It is greatly appreciated. I got into AG not too long ago and definitely needed to watch this video. I’ve been collecting the GOTYs and have 4 so far. Then just recently, I purchased my first brand new American Girl doll. (Rebecca Rubin in case you were wondering). At the time of this comment, I only have the doll hair brush and pick. I will look into getting one of those brushes you mentioned. And I only use distilled water for my doll hair.
Rebecca’s hair is a bit much to manage, but so far so good, I’m starting to get the hang of it.

Does it make a difference if the brush has ball tipped ends or not? I want to replace my AG one as its to small and it has broken the way you mentioned but I noticed some have the ball tipped ends and some don't, does it make a difference as couldn't find an answer anywhere?
I was surprised at the quality of these dolls I got my first dolls yesterday (cauldi and Molly btw) from the NYC store and the hair kinda feels like a really high quality wig I also thought that the dolls where hollow
What would you suggest for 90's PC dolls with EXTREMELY dry hair? My Felicity has about the driest hair I have ever seen and i have a Molly and Kirsten not much better. Wish I could do a pic. Steamer?

You are the first youtuber to mention perm papers! When I watch people curl their dolls hair I always scream "Use paper!!! at the ends" Even use toilet paper if that's all you have. I had used downy dunk (many years ago) on my Tiffany Taylor doll, What a mess, now I don't know how to get it all out after rinsing and rinsing. If anyone knows how please tell me. Thank you for this video.
I also think that American girl as a company should come up with a recipe that’s eco-friendly for the dolls hair for shampoo, conditioner, hairspray

American Girl now has a hair mist product available… I bought it but haven’t tried it yet. Do you have any thoughts on this product? I was hoping it would help with curly hair.

i like to use lotion in my dolls hair to soften it and when i want to color their hair i use acrylic paints

So with caring for Americangirl doll hair, I was off to college and had my dolls in storage for the year and a half I was gone, they are covered in dust, cleaning them up was no issue, but when it comes to the hair what would you recommend to wash their hair with if you recommend that at all! 😊
When you talk about washing a secondhand doll's hair, are you literally putting their hair under the tap, or are you misting water into their hair and brushing through it?
You said you never cut your dolls hair but what if there are a few strands of hair that are longer than the rest of the hair when it is brushed out?
That happens when the wig gets old and the glue starts to loosen. If it’s a few pieces you might consider pulling out the longer pieces but if it’s a ton/the wig is falling of/chunks are falling out, you might consider rewigging/sending them to the doll hospital.

Playing with dolls at any age is fine! I’m 16 and I still collect and play with mine. Play is different at every age but it’s important :)
Thankyou for speaking on hot-water dunks, there sooooo harsh on doll’s hair. It will kill the natural curl , and can destroy the acrylic follicles.
That is much more easier
