    These remind me of my first stump grinder. Rayco rg13 -2. Thing weighed 450 pounds, was road towable, 13 or 14 hp Kohler. Get to job site unhook hitch bar off truck, then off machine. Never stand behind the machine, stand off to the side and lock it in your body. Use your hips to rotate. Ergonomics positions had 5 position. Bought it used for $2,000 , ground 60 stumps with it and bought a bigger unit. Sold once I had not used it for months. It is still making that guy money

      Memories! Had the 13 hp rayco in high school! Was making the big bucks following a few tree companies around while my friends were making minimum wage at the grocery store!

    Why dont you top the stumps with a chainsaw first? it would be a lot less wear and use on the stump grinder.

    • @adhdieseltech236
      @adhdieseltech236 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Exactly, plus for $3000-$4000 they should all be self propelled, they should be a little more impressive than what they are for that price. Probably costs $600 to make the pro series. I was pretty impressed because I thought he meant $299.99 for the smallest, not $2999. I don’t think this is worth anywhere close to what they’re asking

    I could see this used for real small trees or places that are difficult to get to. When I did tree work the place had a large tow behind vermeer and a self driven carlton stump grinder. The carlton was junk but that vermeer would eat anything, the largest stump I used it on was an 8 foot diameter beech tree made quick work of a hard wood. Need the right machine for the right job.

    My grandad ran machines similar to that in the 80s and 90s they actually messed up both of his shoulders because he used them almost daily. Yeah they're good for residential and maybe a landscaper trying to branch out or something, but for a professional it's almost useless. My grandad was in the tree and stump business for over 40 years, I've been in it for 4 years. Definitely cut the stumps pretty low, don't run your saw in the ground but you shouldn't be to grind stumps that high.

    • @joelschermerhorn5447
      @joelschermerhorn5447 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I worked for a local landscaper and a tree service in upstate NY in 2002-03. We had an old stump grinder with the blade near our feet that we used from 2-6x/yr that was super-heavy, belt-driven, and had probably an engine 16-18hp! You had to be extremely careful that you didn't get tangled up in the spinning cutter wheel!

    The whole point in a stump grinder is to go below ground level. All the work shown here should have been done with a chain saw. I want to see how it performs below ground level where it is supposed to work.

    I think it would be a good idea if they could suspend the engine somehow like a 1 man post hole auger so that when you tip it back like that for a high stump, the engine will stay level and wont be starved for oil. just a thought. Thank you for the video!!

You'd have to rent that one 10 times before you ever came near just the initial investment price of the largest. The stump I'm dealing with is about 5' across and a White Oak. No tree service is going to be using one of these lol. This is a DIY rental unit. 15 min for him to get the stump to ground level is not removing the stump. That is only like 25% of the work.... To actually remove that stump with that unit would have taken him 45 min to an hour. BUT for a DIY for the price to rent one its not bad at all.

But you'll never convince the average homeowner/do it yourselfer that that $1k is a negligible price for the added value that they're getting with the Pro model and that they're actually saving money in the long run. Those types usually "know everything" already and because of that...they get to willingly pay too much for less. They built the small one with that idiot in mind and I don't blame them one bit.

    Question.. why not lop them down with a chainsaw then grind instead of widdling down a tall stump

  • @ericlakota6512

    Im sold i need a stump grinder id rather somthing litle faster for the price its great and i realy like simplicity instead of a 20000$ bandit that every one weeve hade lots of problems from blown hydrolic down by the cutter to valves not working with the remots. Granted the bandit self propeld track on with wifi is cool on tracks but weev had lot of troble when all we want is work done im looking into one i dont need a $20000 with all bells and whistels i just need to get work done the bigest one dose great. And will go any where the. Bandet self propeled. Goes only thing is no boldozer blade and cant use it as vehical for pulling ropes

    I'm not a pro, but just wondering why aren't stumps cut really close to the ground and then let the grinder do the rest? Usually I've done it as mentioned and it's way faster.
    Although one must have a chainsaw and later get rid of that piece of wood. Too much of a hassle?

    Might be a dumb question. By doing this, does it kill the tree and roots underground?

    Much love echo! Stan you should reach out to PowerKing and check out their line of products! I have their stump grinder ($1499) and I think for the price point it is superior to the bearcat product. They also back their line of tools and are actually available when you have questions :D Thanks for the videos Stan!
