I’d probably charge around $1500 for that job, those stumps were huge. Good job

When you go out to a job, measuring the stump and the roots, do you normally charge by the inch? If so, what is your per inch charge for a job like that? Also, what made you go to a Rayco over other brands. I am now retired and doing serious homework on getting into stump grinding. Really like the Rayco machines. Do you often get asked to remove chips?

    1. How much was that job? 2. Do you know about many machine hours do you get per set of teeth? Do you prefer a certain model tooth like Greenteeth 700, 800 or 900 series?

That job included two 8+ foot stumps. The stumps had to be lowered by chainsaw first then ground down and the wood chips moved to the side for the homeowner to dispose of. That would have cost over $1000 at time of grinding.
My machine can use Greenteeth and I have a set but in the rocky soil region that I now operate in I prefer to use Rayco Superteeth. I can get about 30 hours on the teeth before I have to sharpen them. And I can resharpen on my own or send them out to services that specialize in sharpening teeth or retipping them.

    Nice video.
Quick question: I have the same stump grinder and am looking at purchasing a covered enclosed trailer.
What size do you have and what is your opinion of your size? Any regrets on the length etc?
    Thanks.

@@lebrunhums the first stump I ever tried to grind was a maple about 6' in diameter where I made my cut. didn't measure the roots. I tried using a rental 25hp vermeer on tracks. the teeth were absolutely shot. spent 12 hours on it and only got about 2/3's done before I ran out of time on that one. learned a lot since then. your machine looks like a beast. you got 2 of em done real quick.

Wow, maple stumps are no joke, what do you use now ?

@@lebrunhums still rentals at the moment. The last one I tried out was a Vermeer sc70tx. The thing was a monster on the stumps but I do all the clean up myself so with hauling both the chips and the machine in the same dump trailer it didn’t seem to speed up the overall process of stump grinding since I usually couldn’t fit the big machine and the chips in the same load. The small sc30s that all the rental yards have I can toss that up on top of the chip pile if I have to and save some running around. When there’s good teeth on them small ones they are not too much slower on the stump either. I’m currently looking into acquiring a rayco of my own. An rg37 would probably work for me but I might only be able to afford the 25hp handle bar model at the moment. Maybe move up to a bigger one later on. Renting kinda blows especially when the rental place don’t keep up on their teeth.
