    Hunter does have one other sort of 'Star Trek' credit, in 'It's only a paper moon' Nog and Vic are watching 'The Searchers' and he briefly appears on screen.
    Had Jeffrey Hunter returned however the whole Vulcan race might have been different. In an interview Nimoy stated that he made Spock enthusiastic and brash to counter Hunter's more thoughtful and understated performance. Once Shatner came in with his more exuberant performance he played Spock as more detached, which then encouraged Gene to give Spock, and the Vulcans, the cold logical demeanour Marjel Barret's Number One had in 'The Cage'

      Jeffrey Hunter starred in "Hell To Eternity" with George Takei. It's a WWll movie based on Guy Gabaldon's life. So there is a Star Trek connection there.

    Ironically, had his wife not meddled and he stayed on as Captain Pike, he'd have never suffered the accident on set that apparently contributed to his untimely death (because he would not have been there in the first place) and he might well have lived into the 21st century.

    I actually see one Hunter film fairly often. I watch the Starz Western Channel quite a bit and the often show The True Story of Jesse James (it really isn't) where he plays Frank James. He worked well as the solid older brother to Robert Wagner's more brash Jesse. I've seen bits and pieces of The Searchers, but it never really held my interest despite its reputation among westerns.
    I've long known of Hunter's untimely death, but never looked into the circumstances. Had he stayed on Star Trek, it appears they may have been going for a "big four" of Pike/Boyce/Spock/Number 1 instead of the "big three" we got with Kirk/Spock/McCoy.

      Considering that he would not have been on that set and had the concussion, then later haemorrhaging; one can only speculate. From the sounds of it, he probably would’ve done good in the series had he stayed on. The series ended the same year he died, and he most likely would be on a different set than when his accident occurred. That is had he stayed on with Star Trek. But we’ll never know.

    In a sense, I grow up with this actor; every easter, here in Argentina, "King of Kings" was on TV, and with a bunch of other religion themed movies there was nothing else... so, every year it was watching and re watching this movie. I watched him in other movies on TV and the two part episodes of Star Trek. But those days series and movies were something else, people really get in touch with the actors and characters and episodes like that no one get out while the last episode of "the Fugitive" was aired weren't too strange!

    I've always wondered how the show would have gone with Captain Pike instead of Kirk. Jeffrey Hunter was great! Do you know why he didn't appear in the two parter? Or was he asked about Star Trek during or after its three seasons? With modern technology they could do a season with a CGI Jeffrey Hunter! I also wonder what the show would have been like if Lloyd Bridges or Jack Lord had agreed to take it on. Personally I think Jack Lord would have been awesome. Hail David!

    A Jeffrey Hunter Capt. Pike would certainly had made some episodes interesting. I enjoyed the short run comic series featuring Pike and crew. Often makes you wonder what if? Of all the other actors considered for the role, I really just can't see Lloyd Bridges or Jack Lord doing very well in the role. I think Pike would have brought a more militant attitude similar to Sheridan vs Sinclair on Bab 5. As much as I like Hunter/Pike, I really can't see him pulling off Trouble With Tribbles with the same humor as Shatner.

  • @CaptainPikeachu
    @CaptainPikeachu 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think if he had remained Captain for TOS, the show would have been vastly different than the one we know now. Hunter and Shatner were night and day, that isn't to say one was better than the other, but just that they were clearly very different actors, and their characters were also very different. Hunter's Pike always carried more somber emotional depth than Shatner's more classic cowboy adventurer. I love both characters, but it would have drastically changed the dynamic of the show, and I honestly couldn't tell if TOS would have been as successful because the "triumvirate" of Spock, Kirk, and Bones, likely would have been a rather different dynamic, and would it have worked well in balance? I'm not sure. But it's alot of what-ifs.
    Still though, I think everything for Star Trek worked out the way it was meant to, because if we didn't have The Cage and TOS and all the changes, we wouldn't have been able to get Pike onto Discovery to explore the character in the modern storytelling format, and we certainly wouldn't have had all this call for a Pike show.
    I like to think that had Jeffrey Hunter lived and still been alive today, he would have been proud of his part in Trek history and paving the way for the next generation of actors taking on the role of Pike. After all, Anson Mount did say that Hunter's son Chris came to Comic Con 2018 to tell Anson that he thought his father would have been proud of his casting, and I heard Chris talking about his on a podcast interview where he expressed excitement in seeing Anson as Pike.
    Also, you mentioned that each incarnation of Pike being different, and that's true, each one has its own style, but I just want to say that in "If Memory Serves", Anson Mount was seriously channeling Jeffrey Hunter in so many of those scenes. Disco's Pike always had a lighter air about him, but whenever anything was related to Talos, it's like a weight is placed back onto his shoulders and you can really see the Jeffrey Hunter in Anson's performance, that same emotion, that same guilt, that same weariness and tiredness that we saw back in The Cage.
    We have been really lucky in Trek to have had all these amazing Pike actors, Jeffrey, Anson, and Bruce Greenwood all really made their mark.

    IMHO Jeffrey Hunter would have lent Star Trek far more legitimacy to non-scifi folk than Shatner's quirky portrayal...

    Shatner brought real authority, wit and playfulness, Hunter appeared to be more strait laced and less charming.

      It's from the books, not sure if its canon, but still an interesting read, i highly recomend it, its called "Star Trek, Best Destiny" by Diane Carey, hence why i thought of it lol

    One thing I always respected Gene Roddenberry for was including Jeffry Hunter in Trek Cannon. Making Pike a real part of the Enterprise backstory. They could have just pretended the first captain never existed. Instead he became just as well known to fans as Kirk, Spock, and Bones.

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was a great thing sure, but it wasn't out of some respect for Jeffrey Hunter or the Character of Pike, it was simply out of necessity. Star Trek was behind on it's episode quota and needed time to finish more scripts and so Gene threw the Menagerie Together! That's all it was!

      Im a huge fan, and knew about a LOT of the Trek Actors histories etc... Just not Hunter, somehow it slipped out of my "want to know" category. And the measure of a fan doesnt come from the research done in to the personal life of actors on the TV Show...

    What happen to Archer? Wasn't he the FIRST Captain of the Enterprise, or better yet what was the First WOMAN on the NX-02 USS Columbia First Woman Mind You? And last Star Trek Discovery, is getting kinda lame since CBS will not aired on PRIMETIME Have to wait when it comes out On DVD. And you forgot to mention of his Cameo in the Longest Day 1961

    • @TriAngulumAudioStudios
      @TriAngulumAudioStudios  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Archer was the first captain IN UNIVERSE... But the first Captain EVER in REAL LIFE was Hunter... And Hunter was in many things, this was just an over view so not everything is going to be mentioned! Especially a cameo! And Im totally fine with it not airing on Cable! Good for them embracing the future and so glad it's working out so well for them!
