I miss Leonard Nimoy, he will never be forgotten .
Nimoy, who always has been, and forever will be, our friend.
Most actors cant remember breakfast yet Nimoy recalls lines, scenes, names, from ages ago. Always impressed by this guy. Our sincere loss he is not with us anymore!
This was his Passion! Most of us can't remember our early coworkers because they were jobs we didn't give a shit about.
If either of us got to work on a Star Wars or Star Trek project in High School, I'm sure you would remember who you "worked" with.
Years after his passing, he is still sadly missed as though he left us yesterday.
I met Mr Nimoy in 1980 in the Sioux Falls Down Holiday Inn where I was a Bellman. I had been dispatched to the airport to retrieve his wife and bring her to the hotel! As I carried her luggage into the suite Mr Nimoy was seated at a desk and turned to thank me! If I hadn’t known ahead of time whom I was sent to pick up I probably would’ve been awestruck!!

Leonard Nimoy created a character that transcended a small screen, and even a large screen. He made being smart and logical and respectful and responsible 'cool' - and had the ability to not take it all too seriously. Such a likable and talented soul. Thanks for the memories...
I'm pretty sure the character was already created on paper as part of the story. He did, however, bring him to life brilliantly.
+Jean Strauss A character in a script is just words on a page. The actor 'creates' the character. Nimoy did that for Spock.
+Jean Strauss Well said. Strong actor in a strong roll. I remember trying to explain to my little boy how a man that looked on the outside like an evil devil could, in fact, be a powerful well-intentioned ally by being cool headed and logical.
I loved the way he stayed cool in the face of adversity when all around him were loosing there heads, especially the Doctor who hardly ever missed the opportunity to insult him.
It shows how important this character became because they included a version of him in all Star Treks from then on.

actually I always thought that Jim Kirk saying that of all the souls he encountered Spock's was the most Human, was so touching. I had tears in my eyes.
I always felt it a bit insulting - spocks ark was always about his fight to reject his humanity and embrase being vulcan

@@dantesinferno80 i always took his journey as being, learning who he was and how to accept his human half and the aspects of it, that are shunned by most pure vulcans, he has always had more emotion/less emotional control, then you would expect, not in a bad way but, even as a kid i took his journey being to truly discover and accept, who he was, rather then who his fathers people are, yes, he tried to reject/not accept that part of himself, not admit to it, but, that was never to me at least, actual rejection of humanity, but, rather, a sort of cognitive dissonance due to upbringing among vulkans rather then an outright rejection of those aspects of himself....coming to accept ones self, for better and worse, is part of the path to truly know yourself, figuring out why you react the way you do to specific stimuli (situations/people/ect) i duno.... spock genuinely was one of the most human characters in sci-fi, exaggerated in aspect but, ringing very true to how i see people act every day, thinking their extremist possessions are "center", that their emotional argument is logic based, and that being for example, "morally right" but Factually full of shit/liars....in the case of spock, it was simply him not wanting to admit, that, he was more emotional then your average vulkan, not in any sort of negative way but, in that, he makes deeper connections with friends then seems normal for his fathers people, part of why i like spock so much, is the fact that, you actually see him change and evolve over the years/decades, you dont see that from many such characters.....many of them dont really change much.. specially in older media... back when, studio execs thought people just wanted more of what they where use to, in different shells... having watched some documentaries about how the industry worked and works... i came to understand why so many good shows never got the real care and respect they deserved, where, othr, trash shows nobody wants to sit and re-watch, got far more support... if they got the same level of support some of the old gameshows got from the studios... but alas...
also been told that trek due to how they manage and micromanage every aspect of the scripts and dialogue, to the point where they dont have even minor adlibs included....adding a word, requires going up the chain and having "well" added before "ok"... i wish i was kidding but... bill mumey (Sp?) talkes about it as do others on interviews you can pretty easily find on youtube... i wouldnt want to be stuck dealing with that on top of stupidly long day after day working to get out a season.....the stress sounds...un-fun....on the other hand...all i have ever heard about working on babylon 5, was that they had a much more fun open environment that was genuinely cool to work in..even if bill hated the foam bone prosthetic, they could tweak lines or, if something came out naturally like adding a "well" before the word "ok", it wasnt a problem, some of the case even re-wrote sizeable chunks of their own dialogue from time to time, i dont remember what episode or little speech it was where one of the guys did a speech that wasnt on script but was sort of "this will be an out take" type thing and... it worked out that when reviewing the film, they found that it could be used and, came off like it was scripted... so it got used... that sounds more like an environment i would have enjoyed being around/working in...

Never knew there was such a thoughtful and profoundly beautiful and life loving side to you. You are missed and held in highest regards. I only wish we could have met. William Shatner got to go to outer space in 2021. But our beloved Mr. Spock/Leonard Nemoy is in heaven. 'Live long & prosper,' much loved actor, influencer, man, & preformer.
His voice was always one people could recognize, very distinct. He left behind a positive impact on our society, which is something many of us could only hope for. People will miss him, but we have so many things to remember him by, enough to keep him alive forever. RIP.
That slip and stutter in The Wrath of Kahn is a great example of Shatner's underrated acting ability; He couldn't have played it any better, showing a grieving Kirk who is fighting, as Admiral, to keep composed. Great scene.
Shatner's acting ability is indeed much underrated. He can say anything with his face alone -- in Spock's death scene, his childlike expression of helplessness and despair is the emotional heart of it.
William Shatner was a member of the National Repertory Theatre in Ottawa. He acted in the Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario. He was Christopher Plummer's understudy in Henry V on Broadway. He is a superb actor. Accounts of the making of Star Trek mention the fact that Shatner's classical training made it easy for him to try out alternate readings of the same line.
Look up Walter Koenig's defense of Shatner's acting ability - I found it quite moving.
Something else to look up is his excellent re-do of Kirk's death on Jimmy Kimmel - he improves it very well.
Finally, his reaction to his son's death in Search For Spock - chokes me up.
I had the opportunity to speak with Mr. Nimoy via Skype during a Star Trek convention. Had his grandson come on and sing a song with Mr. Nimoy. Thank you, Away Mission for this opportunity.
One of the greatest voices to grace our ears. Extremely underrated for his show hosting and voice over work.
That voice got me smoking ciggarettes!

Star Wars fan here. I've never been a Star Trek fan myself. I'm not a hater, (to each his own) I just prefer the "Rock and Roll of Star Wars to Star Trek's more "Classical" approach. That being said, I absolutely LOVE Leonard Nimoy. I have nothing but respect for that man. Despite not being a fan of the series, I found his character 'Spock' quite fascinating and the main reason I watched so many episodes with my best friend who was (and obviously still is) a Trekkie. 🖖 Live long and prosper Mr. Nimoy, wherever you are. Rest in peace...

Tyler Parziale I got to. Meet Leonard when he came to Atlanta for a Cerebral Palsy Telethon at WTBS in the mid '70' ( I also saw him in "Vincent" then). He was nice to sisn his books-no charge like at the conventions-and we talked about the Jewish benediction. I also saw his book about the Shekina (sorry about the spelling) at the Jewish Centre in Dunwoody. RIP, Leonard. I may not be Jewish, but my aunt Esther sang in a Jewish Synagogue in Savannah, Ga. and appreciate their religion, heritage and culture.

I was never a Star Trek fan and never watched the show but Mr. Nimoy was the very first person to host Ripples Believe it or not, and he had such a captivation voice you couldn't help but watch it.
Then I watched him on re-runs of Mission Impossible and even in that he was fantastic.
Then it was just after the release of the third Star Trek film search for Spock and yes that one I saw, I meet him in a air port just out side of Colorado springs and I remember he came up to me and said, "you look sad is something wrong" at the time I was sixteen, I said I am waiting on my Dad he is a Sargent in the Army and he is late" , and he literally talked my ear off but the guy was so smart he would blow your mind.
So he asked me if I knew who he was and I said yeah you used to be on Mission Impossible and he had this big smile and told me I was also on Star Trek.
And I said something that had him laughing so hard I though he would fall out of his chair, I said "Star Track what is that some racing movie?", he started laughing at me and then I saw the move poster for Star Trek III on the side of a bus and I had this sinking feeling of stupidity roll over me.
He said "Don't worry about it you made my day, what is your name since you already know mine", I said my name and my father finally got there and thanked him for keeping me company and he thanked my dad for his service to this country.
The man was one of a kind and his will always be missed.

His voice is amazing. When I play Star Trek Online, it's cool to hear some of the bits he narrated...some about the history of Star Trek. I could listen to him narrate anything. lol

This is a treat to watch. Mr. Nimoy looked so comfortable and peaceful at his home. I have watched this video over and over... it never gets tiring. Kudos to Geoff for a wonderful interview.
Nimoy is of course always brilliant and funny. I was also impressed at the fantastic skills of the interviewer. I think it's hard to realize how difficult it is to be relaxed and genuine when sitting down with a cultural icon. Really beautiful work.
When Mr. Nemoy did the Vulcan greeting little did he know he blasted the show.
Little did he know he got millions of people to bless others.
Where Christians do the sign of the cross on themselves, they rarely do it to others. I think he started something that made God happy .
That's amazing. I've always known that he improvised the Vulcan Salute, but I never knew the story behind it, I always thought it was just 'V', cause you know, 'Vulcan'. But see, now, every time someone does the salute, it's not just a Star Trek reference, it's also a hats-off to Leonard Nimoy. That is truly beautiful.
I watched another video in which Nimoy described using the liturgical gesture as a Vulcan salute, and he smiled gently and said of the Star Trek fans who use it, "They don't know they're blessing each other."
Mr. Leonard Nimoy is one of those actors I really would love to have met, had a coffee with and listened to, tell stories of his life.
I think they got the perfect person to narrate In Search Of.
He created such a haunting atmosphere in that show.

I remember being so seriously in love with mr. Spock in every Star Trek episode and movie that he was in. I loved Leonard Nimoy very much. Also saw him in some regular movies thought I loved him in as well. I'm so sorry that he had to leave us, I wish you were still here💕
He played one of the most iconic characters in TV and movie history! He was a superb actor and director, as well as one of the nicest people in Hollywood! He will be missed! Thank You Mr. Nimoy for the fun you brought me those many star dates!

The “I’m black on the right side. He’s black on the left side; don’t you see?!” episode with Frank (The Riddler) Gorshan was just on TV here again last week. I always loved that episode when I watched the original airings in the ‘60’s.

What's great about Spock's "Leonard Nimoy" character, is that the Nimoy character himself is an actor, who thus plays other characters. Thus, Spock's performance is very "meta".
I first heard Leonard Nimoy as himself on a UK 'call in' radio show.
He is clearly a very, very nice man as well as being an accomplished actor/director.
He is 'Universally' loved for good reason!
I forgot how much I loved the tone of his voice ❤️ and what a positive reframing for type casting 😄... I love the fact that Nimoy can recall specifics about episodes and characters after all these years. It feels like he was really invested in the show and the stories they were telling back then.
It's nice to have interviews like this preserved. I've watched so much Star Trek over the years that it's easy for me to overlook the very human Leonard Nimoy. A very glib, entertaining, cerebral, and charming man. RIP.

Of course he's most remembered as Spock, but I also liked it when he hosted the TV series "In Search Of" as well. That show scared the bejesus out of me when I was a kid.

No, that was Kirk's line. You're getting confused. Spock's line was, "Use the force, Luke" Remember, after Spock helped Gilligan get off of Fantasy Island, they both worked at the bank with Mr. Drysdale and Mrs. Hathaway.
Nimoy brought wonder and awe to so many of our lives -- he and Spock will always have a place in our hearts.

I love this. Love what Nimoy did in that show, his integrity, intelligence and creativity (of course, he's a poet as well). Definitely belongs in the hero category.

I had a great opportunity to meet Lenard Nimoy many years ago after a banquet I was filming for the movie industry in NYC. We hung out and talked for about 45 minutes about the tv show and movies. He was a very pleasant, funny and humble man to talk with, it’s a memory I will always remember. RIP Mr. Spock 🙋🏻♂️
This man made Spock, a "logical" character the most human and humane of all the characters in the show.
Leonard Nimoy did many excellent Shatner impressions. Some were spot on, while others were hilarious in their over the top, Shatner style exaggerations.

@@marioiacolucci Try Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager. Wonderful nuanced characters, literate scripts -- beautiful sets, makeup and costumes -- superb acting and direction. Each series lasted seven years at 26 episodes a season.
@Centurian HATED Enterprise -- watched it through once and never watched an episode a second time. It is in every way a regression and a disappointment from the first second when, instead of the beautiful, sweeping orchestral music one associates with TNG, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, there is an absolutely ghastly, cringe-making song about aspiration over the opening credits. The three previous shows are ensemble shows with a huge variety of interesting characters. Enterprise focuses entirely on one invincible captain and one boring Vulcan. The sets are dark and dull, the costumes are drab, the scripts are boilerplate sci-fi. The thing is a prequel, so there is no sense of facing an unknown future: they are boldly going where everyone has been before. And the prequel tries to change for its own convenience principles established in previous series, so you don't know where you are anymore.
All the wonderful worlds created by previous series and all the fascinating species we have come to know -- Cardassians, Klingons, Romulans, Changelings, Vorta, Jem'Hadar, Bajorans, Breen, all the species Voyager met in the Delta Quadrant -- are gone; it's a wretched prequel and no one has met them yet. We never learn what happened after Voyager returned to Earth and the Dominion War ended.
And the acting is awful! WIlliam Shatner and Patrick Stewart came from the Shakespearean stage. Actors like René Auberjonois, Nana Visitor, Avery Brooks, and Kate Mulgrew had years of stage experience. These people knew how to act and they knew how to be part of an ensemble. The acting in Enterprise is just wooden.
Of course, Enterprise is better than JunkTrek -- better than Discovery, better than Picard, better than Strange New Worlds will be -- but JunkTrek consists of the worst television ever made. Compared to the Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, Enterprise is a huge disappointment.

I like it that Nimoy is so jolly about everything. Not what I expected.
I’m sure, as a serious AC-tor, he never imagined what would come from playing an alien in 3 seasons of some random TV show. But what an influence and legacy he has left, a role like that is something the vast majority of actors never even come close to. He became a cultural icon, if you flash that hand sign at virtually any American, they’ll know exactly what you mean. I’m sure he never imagined during the filming of the show that he would be a beloved character for generations to come. Star Trek was already cancelled way before I was born, even as a Gen Xer, but I grew up watching the reruns, my mom took me to the movies, I still watch the original series now and then. Star Trek lives on to this day, and Leonard Nimoy is a huge reason why.

We all loved Spock because he was in the same struggle we had while growing up. I was a kid when the show was on TV, and Spock was fascinating. The role and the actor had met together. I miss him.

I remember Nimoy playing fiddler on the roof at the melody tent in the early 70's on the Cape. i was about 13. all i could say was wow. He was incredible. thank you Mr Nimoy for that memory.

This was such an informative and cool video. To finally find out how spock's hand gesture came about was really cool. Leonard was always one of my favorite actors. From mission impossible to Colombo to star trek. Great interview ! May Leonard rest in peace. He will always Live long and prosper.

So...watching this two years after Leonard Nimoy's death. I still miss the fellow.
That being said, I think his works did make, and still are making, the world a better place. His legacy lives on.
Live Long and Prosper Leonard....and for comments regarding "lighting and camera work", I would have enjoyed this interview even if it had been lit by an Itty Bitty Book Light in a dark alley, you don't need to see Leonard to love Leonard, his voice,spirit and attitude is SO awesome!
