Drove a new S with active noise cancellation, and it sort of worked, but only in the front headrests, not the entire cabin like the ELR. Thanks again Tom - and Martin for the great B roll stuff.
Another great review, Tom. Always enjoy your videos! I really like the Lucid Air but it’s out of my price range. If they had a Model 3/Y competitor, I’d get one for sure. Judging by the comments, a lot of others are in the same boat. I just hope they make it as a start up long enough to make an affordable model.
The 0 - 60 wars need to be over. Range, price and quality are what the average person needs. Tesla's super charges network is good. But if you are doing long distance traveling often you may be a little put off if you have to get off the interstate and navigate the surface streets of the city/town where the super charger is located. IMO there should be superchargers at all of the interstate rest stops. That way you will have vending and restrooms at every stop. I don't want to get out and eat or shop every time stop to charge. If I was in the market for a $140K EV, what would be the better choice the Porsche Taycan with endless configurations and ample dealer support, or the Lucid Air?. I could never afford one, but it's at the top of my wish list. Really love just about everything about the Lucid Air GT. Looking on the Lucid Motors site, the 21" Aero Blade wheels you had on your demo car reduce the estimated range to 469 miles. The 19" Aero Range wheels, although not as flashy, provide the maximum 516 miles of range in this model. Having said that, I'm sure the EPA ranges were obtained using some serious hyper-mile testing that doesn't really reflect real world driving.
Nice review. I received my Air GT almost a year ago and have been impressed with how the initially buggy software has steadily improved with a constant stream of OTA updates. Now with the system working well getting each new update feels like opening a present with some new audio or charging feature appearing. I enjoy driving and this is a driver's car. On a number of trips from the boring roads of the D/FW area to more mountainous regions, I have enjoyed how effortlessly the Lucid eats miles while having the range to get away from the freeway to enjoy some more challenging routes. Drive modes in the Air change more than accelerator sensitivity. At speed in Sprint mode the suspension and steering tighten up while the TC relaxes a bit. I appreciate that the brakes are not over-boosted, providing excellent feel, if a very firm pedal. Steering is neutral and will gently understeer at the limit (which most 'reasonable' drivers will never approach). Ordering a Lucid with the white carpet? Newark California is actually the Capitol of Fremont. Sorry, a very, very old joke because Newark is totally surrounded by Fremont. Fun random fact for you-- Fremont, California became a city in 1956 when five towns were incorporated into a single city (Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission and Warm Springs.) Newark was supposed to join, but the town residents voted it down. So Newark is the hole in the Fremont donut.
I'm 6'-4" too and I've owned this for over a year now! :) Never once hit my head. The rails are super low though and I can totally see how this might be a problem. Personally though, it has never been an issue for me. The windshield however remains one of my only gripes with this car. It has this double image problem at night that only shows up for tall drivers.
The interior of this thing is so sleek! It is definitely way more classy than those of, e.g. electric BMW and Mercedes vehicles which look like an oligarch's Byzantine wet dream;)
Lucid feels like a company designed to get through a SPAC, but after that, it is not low cost to produce, they had software issues, the ramp up has gone poorly, their wait list has been dropping hard, and other issues, just feel like it is not a solid company. The Saudi's have 61% of the company and I suspect they will eat up the rest of it in the next couple of years, For consumers, I would be concerned about service. It is a small company by industry standards. Large or small, all EV builders seem to have trouble providing great service when needed. GM dealers have been known to have just one EV tech for a few dealerships. I also read a story about having to go through three Ford dealers before finding one who could work on a Mach-E. We are starting to move from just early adopters to mainstream buyers. The industry needs to get service ramped up quick to meet demand.
Tom. Another great video review! Appreciate all your hard work and videoing to share view TH-cam viewers! You hit all the key topics of interest in your reviews. Curious, do you have to return all the bath tissues after you test for every car?
Great job Tom. The car is very impressive, but I see these more as Concept Cars. I have an AMG Mercedes that I purchased new for 1/2 what they are asking for the Air. Plus this Company has virtually zero Dealer network so… where do you go when problems arise? (As they always do). Perhaps Lucid could align with one of the Majors the way AMG did with Mercedes? Lucid does the beautiful design and advanced R&D work, but buyers have the comfort of a national service network? Again, love the innovation and since Tesla is planning to put a big, huge MAGA imprint on the hood of every vehicle they produce, it’s nice to see some Non-Racist alternatives out there.
Great video, great car, wish I could buy one. Lucid tastes but Bolt budget. Lucid has a great backstory: battery/engine supplier to Formula E, and CEO Peter Rawlinson was vehicle engineer on Tesla Model S.
Peter was chief engineer at Lotus and built his own sports cars before joining Tesla. Designer Jenkins led the most recent reimagining of the MX-5/Miata before joining Lucid. Aerodynamicist J-C Monnet came to Lucid from the Red Bull Formula 1 racing team. I can't wait to see the Lucid version of "Roadster."
There is nothing enveronmentally conscious in manufacturing a huge electric battery. People will buy it for supercar performance. If you compare it to a Lambo, the Air seats five.
Just a beautiful, elegant car with technology to boot. Honestly this easily beats the Tesla and the Merc at the price. Much more impressed than I expected. In 10 or 15 years I can probably afford one used! Something to look forward to.
Hello Tom, I follow a couple of car reviewers, I understand that the car industry is moving into electrification. The reviews are entirely about the car, how about what do you need at home to have an electric car. I never see a review about the equipment need and the price. Where to get them? Newark California is actually the Capitol of Fremont. Sorry, a very, very old joke because Newark is totally surrounded by Fremont. Fun random fact for you-- Fremont, California became a city in 1956 when five towns were incorporated into a single city (Centerville, Niles, Irvington, Mission and Warm Springs.) Newark was supposed to join, but the town residents voted it down. So Newark is the hole in the Fremont donut.
I couldnt agree more with youre closing comments. love the Lucid. Recently saw one tooling down I-5 in Norcal. Too bad there is no dealer in Portland
I am 6’-4” tall and hit my head sitting in the Lucid. Ended my interest immediately!
Tom, you are amazing, job well done as always 🙂
A typically brilliant review of a brilliant car.
love the review- and the credits! Go Tom and Martin!!!
The interior of this thing is so sleek! It is definitely way more classy than those of, e.g. electric BMW and Mercedes vehicles which look like an oligarch's Byzantine wet dream;)
Idk this is very nice but the new 7 series interior is amazing as well.
Lucid feels like a company designed to get through a SPAC, but after that, it is not low cost to produce, they had software issues, the ramp up has gone poorly, their wait list has been dropping hard, and other issues, just feel like it is not a solid company. The Saudi's have 61% of the company and I suspect they will eat up the rest of it in the next couple of years,
For consumers, I would be concerned about service.
Your excellent video format and summary made me a subscriber. Excellent work!
with Me It's The Design Of A Vehicle(inside & out)that Matters Before Everything,& Am Impressed/love The Design .
Should be called the Saudi Air Grand Touring or the MBS Air Grand Touring!
thank you for taking the time to give your camera man heads up. you just got a new Subscriber
Such a beautiful interior .. loved it , Keep going Lucid
Good auto presentation 👍
The most useful review I've seen of this obviously superb vehicle.
This car is just a status symbol. It's so rich folks can say "look at me and how environmentally conscious I am"
I agree with the comparison to mid-century modern furniture and architecture/Frank Lloyd Wright
Great review, as always. I'm not seeing the side reflectors. Am I overlooking them?
What a nice ride!
Ignore Mark Plott comments, he is a tesla troll who just hates lucid.
Hello Tom, I follow a couple of car reviewers, I understand that the car industry is moving into electrification. The reviews are entirely about the car, how about what do you need at home to have an electric car. I never see a review about the equipment need and the price. Where to get them? You look the most customer oriented , would you do a video that explain that? Thanks
The problem with that is, there are way too many variables.
@@DrivenCarReviews Thank you for your answer, but where we the consumers find information or get advise.
Unfortunately, we don't have this beautiful machine ! 😮
I seriously love my AGT
Fir a second I thought it was a heavy new Buick flagship . Nice old school design .
you had me till $87k and then at $150k my browser automatically navigated to TH-cam home page
Nice review! Will you be doing one for the Nissan Ariya?
Very excited to see this kind of charging performance trickle down to affordable models.
It's the battery size and pack voltage. Next closest are the EGMP vehicles, which do 240 kW.
Bonus points for the Eames and FLLW references. The dash layout reminds me of the current Cadillac dash. And while in that marque the full-size sedan role reminds me of the late, great CT6.
Lucid Air was Designed in 2016, and its already OUTDATED.
@@markplott4820 What exactly is outdated about it?
@@TinLeadHammer - its a 2016 Design , essentially unchanged, and Design looks like a 1990's Toyota.
Lucid has less Advanced batteries than AUSTIN model Y (4680) , and Lucid lacks Structural Battery pack & Underbody Gigacasting , both in Model Y.
Lucid , still in 2023 has Buggy Software.
Lucid in 2023 lacks AUTOPILOT as Standard.
its too HEAVY, weighs more than PLAID w/ 3 motors.
too many FASTNERS , too many Parts, too many Brackets , holding up more Brackets, see Motor bay.
Average people are often ignorant of cars...I had a neighbor who thought all my vintage cars were Cadillacs (in truth they were all Lincolns).
The font in their logo reminds me of my grandfather's Studebaker Avanti.
Possibly the most beautiful car currently on sale.
I have never owned a car that didn’t have a cracked windshield. What is the cost to replace this one?
0:40 "Brand new band"... I like it!
Why would motor whine be bad? I actually like it, great vid ❤
Excellent review of Lucid, fit and finish superb just like Toyota and Lexus.
It’s just the most beautiful car on the road now
Great job guys 👏👏👏 HAVE A BEAUTIFUL DAY EVERYONE ✌️
In which measurement(s) is this vehicle smaller than a Model S? It looks much wider, and it's hard for me to judge the length.
Yours and Martin’s hands are the best ones to handle this lovely Lucid!❤
Absolutely love the Lucid Air what a stunningly gorgeous car! Lucid is far far ahead of Tesla in terms of technology, fit and finish, its premium quality.
Nice review but lacking details. How good are the headlights? Does it have heat pump? What was his kw/mile consumption and how does it compare to a model S?
Love that car. Nice review
Can’t believe no Cooled rear seats for that money unless it’s an option
Great review Tom
Fantastic review.
Great review. Lets hope Lucid can get the ball rolling on production.
they , Cant even sell cars in Inventory.
I envy
What a gorgeous car indeed - Lucid Air
I really like the Lucid Air. Just a shame it'll never make it to Australia... so I can see other people driving them! LOL
Most Beautiful EV car in the whole world 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Isn’t the whine at low speed intentional? I recently read early EVs are being flagged for recall to fit a low speed noisemaker. Pedestrians are helped by hearing the movement of the car.
Lucid is the iPhone of electric cars well packaged and beautiful❤
This is the most exciting EV on the market, outside my price range but so's a donut right about now.
