    I am incredibly grateful to all these new startups. Wish I could join them all. I am sick and tired of all these dinosaur banks and that includes Credit Unions as well. I remember telling my wife just a couple of years ago that these traditional banks will be forced to change as soon as the wise kids figure it out. Just like the way Uber demolished the taxis. Bank of America are masters of nickel and dime. Nuff said.

      to Marshall Steves: do you work for Simple Bank? Why would they be having technical difficulties? How can be 100% certain that we can trust their online security features? I very recently received my Simple debit card. I don't care for the look of the card. I also wonder if Simple Bank is too good to be true. I watched the guy who advertised for Simple Bank on his initial focus TH-cam channel. From watching his video, I decided to sign up with Simple Bank. However, I like my Bank just fine. I have BBVA Compass Bank. I don't really know much about Simple Bank. I've only heard of them just recently. I very much feel conflicted regarding how much I trust Simple Bank, or not. It does bother me that I can't talk to one of their bankers in person. Online banking only ....I don't know, I really feel conflicted about my decision to have Simple Bank.

    I signed up for Simple thinking it was a finance managing app a la Mint. (It was late and I wasn't fully aware.) I wasn't entirely sure about what to think of Simple but the more I keep digging into it, the more I'm absolutely loving everything this bank is representing. Normally when you try to do research on something like this, you're forced to dredge through stories and trying to pick which ones seem the most truthful and pick the less evil of them all. Yet I've not seen a single negative thing about Simple that wasn't explained by someone simply not knowing what they were getting into.
    Everything about this seems amazing and exactly what I'm looking for. Nothing extravagant, just a digital place to store my money and help me be smarter about how I spend it. That seems to be exactly what Simple is.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Silver Aura that is exactly correct! You have to know what you are getting into as far as a no branch online only bank. Once you get passed that idea it's incredible. The features and support Simple offers is nothing short of amazing. Thank you so much for watching and for your comment!

      Hell no. I would even push you to go to Alliant Credit Union which has damn high interest rates for their checking account and savings. And to go even a step further open a discover credit card for your spending so you can actually make money out of your spending.
      Frankly this simple system doesn't even seem simple. Banks are making money out of your money. Take your share. Don't let them give you nothing back in return.
      In addition both discover and alliant credit union have no fees at all as long as you don't overdraft or make a late payment.
      And they both have an excellent customer service they've always been able to solve any issue or request faster than any other bank.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lionel X some good points for people who want to gain interest rates over a longer period of time. For me and many others the features, modern design, and lack of ANY fees counting no overdraft is the reason to stay with Simple. Traditional banks make way more off you than it will ever get returned to you (obviously excluding 401k, stock accounts). All in all simple isn't a shitty bank because it doesn't have interest rates.

  • @joshs4402

      +Joshua Engle if you deposit a photo check of over $200. The $200 will be available next business day like any other check and then the remaining will be released to your account the following day. I just use the Square Cash app. That's instant.

    • @initialfocus

      +BigBeautyEffects57 the key with banks is to make sure you see on their website the accreditation of FDIC approved. That means even if the company goes bankrupt or anything happens your money is safe and would come from the government. Simple is FDIC approved and is as legit as any other bank:)

      Any online banking establishment can disappear overnight. That FDIC credentials that you see on online banking websites can be easily added by a savvy 10 year old. I don't trust them. Credit Unions is the way to go.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you do your research you can easily see that a 10 year old is clearly not behind this. 5 years as a customer I think is enough.

      @alvaroakatico9188 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      initial focus I never said that. Some online banking establishments is what I said. While I'm sure there's plenty that are legit, how can the average consumer tell the difference? I never said Simple was not legitimate. I just don't know. I'm the type of person that if I can't smell it, see it, touch it or interact with a real person as far as my money goes when problems arise, I'm out.

    I actually rather not talk to people lol. With Chase currently but changing to Chime and Chase is god awful. First time I got dinged for Fraud prevention and first call was fine on a different phone number. Cool right? no. Second time just 4 months later they said I couldn't use a different phone number so I had to go to a branch. It was a pain. Now I am getting charged $6 monthly fee so I am just going to chime. Chose Chime because it offers faster direct deposit so I went with that over Simple.

  • @stevenh3574
    @stevenh3574 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great video.
    So I believe a large reason Simple seems to rock is that they aren't necessarily a bank. They abstract the technical complexities most banks suck at regarding the user interface, experience and the management of data behind the scenes. Honesty and care for the user is built into their business model which is great and encourages the interaction you spoke about. So an actual bank that is FDIC insured pays to use the Simple platform and saves overhead cost for maintaining talented SDLC teams and marketing.
    At least that what I take from the comments of the Co-Founder and CEO as well as the resent notifications on Simple accounts about switching from BankCorp to BBVA compass. th-cam.com/video/H-ZWxRfWM-w/w-d-xo.html

      +Asura couldn’t be happier. No ones perfect. Ive read the reviews but just remember. Normally if people are happy with a service they don’t take the time to write out reviews. It’s when something goes wrong that people want to blow up on the internet. Not saying those negative reviews are fake. Just my two cents.

      If you are talking about square cash or the cash card, that is not a actual bank FYI. Simple and Chime have a lot of the same features and characteristics. I personally went with Simple because they are who I saw first so I joined. But I have kept my eye on Chime. At the end of the day you make sure they have the features you want, are supported by any companies you need to charge items through or ATMs near by, etc. Then just join and see how it goes. Changing banks isn't a big hassle anymore with online banks. I could cancel and move all my money over to chime if need be in a single day. Just try one out and see how you like it.

    This was so helpful. I am just now trying to tackle my financial situation and was finally able to get a full-fledged checking account with Wells Fargo after years and years of bad decision making and lofty dreams. I have Bipolar Disorder and anxiety and decision-making are the absolute death of me. I am eternally grateful to Wells Fargo for accepting me and I feel as though I have to be loyal to them for LIFE now! But I am well aware of their situation(s) and I heard recently about Aspiration, and in my research of them came across SIMPLE for the first time. And now I am spiraling out of control with decisions, haha (I literally have anxiety attacks just trying to decide at the drive thru- I am such a pain in my own ass!). My brother has been encouraging me to try the You Need A Budget budgeting software. I tried twice and I understand the concept and I know it works and I want to do it so badly, but I simply get so stressed out that I will make the wrong decision or mess something up in terms of typing in the amounts for the goals with every purchase and monitoring balances, etc., that I would rather just stick to what I do- pay all my bills first, and then use a little of the leftover for everything else! But I know that there is so much opportunity for me to stretch my dollars and make more of my situation, but I am not unrealistic about my "limitations" on handling this stuff. Hearing about Simple's Goals sort of changed my life just THINKING about it, and I haven't even signed up. I love Aspiration's no ATM fee at ANY ATM anywhere in the world as well as their much higher interest rate. HOWEVER- I NEVER use an ATM- EVER! I just get cash back at the grocery store because who uses cash anymore?? Venmo, baby! So that's sort of moot. And I also don't have much extra money sitting around to earn any worthwhile interest on so that also seems like a moot point. The thought of being able to set my goals- immediate, short term AND long term- and have Simple meet them FOR me? I mean--- I can't tell you, and this is just ME speaking for MY personal situation- the sense of relief that that is even REAL relaxes me. It sounds so stupid and it's pretty embarrassing. I am very ashamed of my financial standing because of my past struggles, but thins are going well these days (MINUS THE ELECTION!), and I am ready to take control. The problem is Wells Fargo stepped in and trusted me and so I immediately threw my loyalty t them, but I also understand they're probably being nicer to some folks to make up for some customer exits. I haven't had any problems with them this whole year. I meet all the requirements to cancel out their fees each month so I haven't really fallen victim to their bullshit yet, haha. I guess I am just worried about starting from scratch all over again, but honestly, it seems like it may be worth it. Does Simple offer check writing? I do write a check for rent every month and just bought new checks, haha, but it may be worth it. I apologize for getting really personal in this post, but I feel like this company cares about people and their specific situation and creating a win-win for them as well as us. I would love to hear of any others who made a switch from a big bank. Did you give Simple a trial run while keeping your other account active? Do you quit cold turkey and just make the jump? Really appreciate this info- I think you've sold me on Simple, sir!
    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

      +Scott Borden first off thank you very much for your personal comment! I too have lived with bi-polar disorder for most of my life so I completely understand how you feel. It can be a huge pain decision making. Let me answer your questions. I quit from Chase bank. I personally quit cold turkey but my friends who also joined slowly transitioned. Simple has really helped. Of course it takes self discipline and being true about whatever situation you are in to get good at it. But I love the fact that not only through calling but through twitter and the messaging within the app you can get a lot of help and advice. Oh and about the checks. They don't have personal checks that you get but they have a cool feature where you can create a check on their website or app and then they physically send it to whoever (in your case for rent). And it's totally free. No need to send stamps or anything. Cash is becoming useless venmo and square cash is amazing! I hope you have a good one, feel free to comment or my personal work email is on my about page. :)

    Chase has stolen from us and me with these stupid 12 dollar monthly fees just for a checking account. Then when you overdraft, you get smacked 34 dollars EACH transaction if you didn't pay at 11pm that same day. Fuck central banks... Online baking is the future. We just need a way to deposit CASH at any atm and not just at retailers where they charge you around 5 bucks just for the service. The only down side to online baking. I use chime btw

    I was reading about this "Bank" and see that their interest rate is a measley .01%, thats pathetic. Not very altruistic of them. My Discover Bank account pays 1.65% interest, and they don't charge any fees. You're better off getting a high yield online account and tackling the real issue, gaining self control of your money and not relying on gimmicks to save.

    • @initialfocus
      @initialfocus  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s great that Discover has a 1.65%. Simple actually recently added a new feature that gives a 1.00% APY. Personally for me I don’t really care about that stuff. I know it’s great and important to some. Id rather have better design and the features that you call gimmicks are not gimmicks to me. Gimmicks are some flashy thing that doesn’t actually work. These features work, for me and many others.
