    Great video. Not only do we have problems with scammers, we have many of what I call 'exaggeraters'. So many TH-camrs claiming they have ways you can make money online, only to be something that millions of others are doing as well. It is only when you drill deeper we see that there are multiple layers of additional skills you need to learn and many tools that cost $$$$, plus a ton of commitment, hard work, intelligence and luck. In the meantime, these TH-camrs often have courses you can sign up for, and earn a stack of money with their many money making videos. But the reality is that less than 4% of TH-camrs make money. The rest of us are often wasting a lot of time and money chasing a dream that never eventuates, but validate these TH-camrs with praise and compliments for their wisdom.

    The pump and dump reminds me of the Howard The Duck #1 shortage. It became wildly popular in the late 70's and early 80's. The comic was rare due to major comics dealer hoarding all of them(unknown to fans at the time) and selling ones that were found at inflated prices. Some years later, the value plummeted as the same dealer "found" a large stock of them

  • @12nites
    @12nites 3 ปีที่แล้ว +596

    Pump & dump is a big issue in small and illiquid markets. In Argentina, brokers, journalists, and even the stock market officials will collaborate to do it. As a result, people are driven away from the market, which keeps getting smaller and smaller as a result.

    I always assumed that a "Boiler Room" got its name because either a) the occupants were under a great deal of pressure to obtain results usually by cold-calling customers (marks), or 2) the occupants were instructed to use high-pressure sales tactics to obtain results.

      Real boiler rooms are just that! Cheap to rent, nasty, overcrowded and with no windows(somewhere in the basements) far away from curious eyes and ears!

      I worked in a boiler room for like 3 weeks. I didn't know it was a boiler room at the time lol. It was a basement room with no windows and we made calls 8 hours a day and there was a bell we had to ring each time we made a sale. The numbers they gave us to call were mainly retirees who would give you anything you asked, including their credit card numbers. Needless to say I was fired because I just spent the time chatting and not really pushing their useless VIP card. The hotel chain is still one of the largest in the world.

You would then get a reply saying, ‘Do what I have done.’
