Damn, that went from "cool" to "I can't believe these are not drawings instead of 3d objects". You are probably the best painter I know, and definitely the best teacher. You go from beyond painting little men to true art. Thanks for sharing!
I can't believe the quality of your video tutorials that you provide to the community as a service. The end result is truly wonderful to look at, thank you for everything you do.
I usually don't enjoy watching mini painting videos where an airbrush is used for most of the work but the sheer enthusiasm from your commentary makes it super fun
After 13 years in the hobby, I finally believe I can achieve a good looking gold, wow! All these videos suggesting brown- three coats o xy gold paint - drybrush silver never helped me. Thank you so much; now on to the painting table.
The best youtube channel about mini painting bay far! And the only one who properly talk and show about TMM, please make more videos about!!!! Many thanks from Brazil!
Wow, amazing instruction video. Loved how you used a broad assortment of paint types and brands. It really shows that you can easily intermingle them all to achieve a truly spectacular result. You quickly became my favorite miniature painter on TH-cam.
I've watched a ton of miniature videos, you are on another level. I binged a lot of your videos. Instant subscriber. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for doing your channel. Watching one of your videos a day has been the highlight of my day since I found your channel. I love how enthusiastic you are, really brightens my day
Man I've watched a ton of videos by other painters but your ideas and techniques are amazing to watch and learn. I love that you literally use any brand and type of paint, even oils and Tamiya on warhammer and really mix up all types on a single model. Fav YT painter, subbed and following.
Thanks a million 😍😍😍!!! I tried every kind of modelling and there are a ton of incredible products and techniques that sadly remain confined in their small super specific subject. For me it's very important to share the idea that you have total freedom at the painting table and you can use anything to bring to life your ideas 😊
I came back here to watch this once more as I'm looking to buy some new gold paints. Still amazed by the unconventional approach to this. Looking forward for more of your contents.
First vid I’ve watched of your work. It’s pretty freakin amazing. I learnt more in the last 18 minutes than like what I’ve learnt about painting in my whole life!
I'm currently painting an entire Custodes army in a style inspired by example 3 (Gold Leaf). I'm using this to learn to use the airbrush, practice contrast and learn volumes. I'm really excited to be learning something new after painting minis for 25 years.
Thanks very much for this in depth video and explanation. Learned a lot and your videos inspired me to try out oil paints, play with color tones, and grow a lot as a painter. Next step will be giving the airbrush a try. "And a lot of painters tend to solve this using metal paints in thick layers" - well, that's exactly what I do. Time to learn a new way of doing it then. Thanks a lot again for your inspirational videos.
We have to stop meeting like this, Marco..... Just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy your videos, and of course your skills and how you imbue them in us! Megakudos!
Hey, I've been bingewatching your videos since yesterday and even though I've not painted anything in ages you made me want to paint again! Thank you so much for all the tips and your good personality. With the new sister of battle coming out I would love to see how you would paint them!
Well done again, you’re awesome Marco, it always makes me think when I watch your videos, maybe not exactly what your teaching, but it sends my mind down new avenues for painting.... thank you
Very cool with lots of tone variation in the models really adds to the gold. I will have to try some of these as I normally just stick with standard gold tones. I really like Vallejo Liquid Gold "Old Gold" "Gold" and "Silver" alcohol based metallics.
Thanks so much Marco for another great tutorial! While the world is all about NMM the brave artist proceed pushing the boundaries of classic techniques to turn em in something completely original and new. That's what art is about man!
Just insane work..... love the theory behind the golds... I've been looking for ages for something like this for my Sanguinary Guard....should of known better and come here first!
Man, i don't paint enough to keep up with this inspiration! I guess i better get off youtube and get to work on those oil washed orks i was talking about a week ago...
Can you do a video on your desk and painting setup? I am trying to create a space at home and am looking for ideas for layouts from people who already have setups
Awesome! This is very helpful! One thing I haven't seen in your videos is how to create visual interest when the model is largely (and intentionally) one non-metallic color, such as a Space Marine. Blue, perhaps?
It's great to come back from holiday to a fresh NJM video! I was wondering if you are planning any more videos on display model painting? I really enjoyed the series you started with the 75mm model, and I'd love to see either more of that or a series on bust painting.
😍😍😍 Oh yeah definitely! That's my favourite topic and it will become with the time a main part of the channel (I've already something in preparation for a long term plan 😉).
Really nice explanation of metallics and the different values of each tone. I just found your channel while doing some research for my own TH-cam channel... you just popped up! I'm sold and you got yourself a new subscriber. Your very talented and I like what I've seen here so far. Looking forward to watching more of your content but first back to the video I'm working on. Cheers m8!
I love the richness of the colours. This is definitely something I wanna explore more with my painting. Do you think this sort of thing would work on Idoneth Deepkin, Marco? I was thinking something along the lines of what you did but adding some organic layers too, like on their flesh and stuff. 🤔
Thanks for this Tutorial it helped me a lot but i am trying right now to think for an appliance in the direction of Bronze or Copper. For the same project i am Working on an army with an theme of the Terracotta Army. Thanks to your Videos i got an idea how to get to an point, from which i can start to get some for me nice results. Thanks for that!
So how would you go about using a brush to do the gold? Just layer a thin coat zenithally? Could you theoretically apply a thin metallic glaze over an underpainted mini?
I'm honestly tempted to paint all of my Descent 2E miniatures in this fashion. Heroes in metallic red/yellow/green/blue for each of the archetypes. Bronze/tan for tan monsters Silver/red for red monsters Gold for lieutenants
You mention about the oil paint and that you went over it in another video, which video was that?? I looked through your videos and saw no video which obviously might have covered it. Thanks!!
Oh, and since these techniques are aimed at gaming models, what do you use to protect the paint from handling and rubbing off and preserve the shiny finish at the same time? That's always been a huge challenge for me in the past. Cheers!
Great stuff as usual... Have you ever tried and have an opinion on the inverted technique... I mean using a strong (silver) metallic paint as the base and then applying contract paints or translucid inks over it in order to end up with a colorful object but with a bit of a metallic shine under it? Thanks
Is i bad that i have watched this video 12 times?! I feel like I need to get the theory correct before i try it but sheesh i can almost word for word it now lol!
Fantastic video, great to see the different colors and different brands. Do you know where I can get some of those metal paint wells you use to mix your paints? Thanks!
Thanks a million!!! The paint trays/wells come from companies like Tamiya, MrHobby, UStar, (now also AK Interactive has its own ak-interactive.com/product/modeling-paint-wells/ ). You can find them in any model shop or with better prices on eBay (sadly I still don't have a stable and safe link to share); my stash is a souvenir from Korea 😅
I would be curious about using Vallejo metal colors in an airbrush. I have been impressed with the results I get (though I tend to stick with scale 75 for the brush.)
Do you recommend using TMM Oils? specifically Id like to try Abteilung TMM oils, or mix metallic pigments for miniatures with an oil medium. Thank you for your great videos
Great video for awesome, quick true metalic metals, very informative and scientific! I just picked up an airbrush, some paints and inks, so I'm so glad I stumbled on this video! What are your impression of colour shift metallics? I was thinking to use them with your 3rd method, to add some additional colour variatoin on the game table.
Thanks!!! I'll check, but don't worry too much about the undertone, just use a dark green that you like (this was my whole process in choosing the Future green 😅)
Thanks! Now I have a bottle of "Bartoline" but they are all the same and I usually buy the cheapest odorless white spirit I can find in the hardware store
hello marco, thanks for the tutorial for my custodes haha, quick question i don't have any flow improver, just some airbrush thiner, will it work the same? thank you for your amazing work !
Another phenomenally made and useful video! Thank you so much, and it also comes very handy for me, as I'm starting to work on my Thousand Sons. Currently, I'm thinking of trying out your old gold technique (the first in the video), but switching your green hues with purple ones, in order to create a nicer contrast with their turquoise armour plating (probably applying those with Contrast paints to keep some degree of transparency). Do you think that could work? Do you maybe have additional tipps on how to tackle such a project? Thanks a lot once more, your work is a huge, huge inspiration for me every time! Cheers, and keep it up!
Thanks a million to you buddy 😍😁😍!!! Nice plan and it will work for sure; purple works really well on metal (it's my first choice to shade a warm bronze) and as you pointed out the contrast with turquoise will be nicely enhanced. For a subtle effect I had good results using the shade/wash carroburg crimson, it's a bit more forgiving than contrast paint when you are setting the effect during the first experiments
Very well done. Thanks for the great video again. May I ask where you found those metallic paint cups to mix in? I never saw any with a pouring indent.

The redder one actually made me excited about painting Stormcast. I absolutely LOVE it.
One of the best painting teacher! or maybe the best. Honest and clear :D thanks from Spain

Criminally undersubbed channel. Very useful and no nonsense delivery of knowledge. 10/10.

A distanza di 2 anni e ancora un video assolitamente ottimo! Complimenti
Thanks for showing both white and black backgrounds.
I came back here to watch this once more as I'm looking to buy some new gold paints. Still amazed by the unconventional approach to this. Looking forward for more of your contents.
Video stupendo! L'uso del colore non metallico prima dello strato metallico è una chicca a cui non avevo mai pensato.... :D

Your work is excellent. I absorb a lot of the information/theories you explain. Thanks for the super reference. Best regards
Thank you for this and the Chrome tutorial.

Solid explanation of theory as usual dude, really appreciate that side of your videos.
You are a very articulate person, your content is quite qualitative as a result. Instant suscribing.

The results look amazing. Will certainly have to try this out!

As always - awesome video!
OMG! So beautiful!!! I definetly will try metods from this video/
Where do you talk about Molotow black? Can't find an older video of yours that discusses it. Looks interesting.
Absolutely top notch stuff. Really impressed.

Great tutorial for someone about to head into painting with an airbrush! Any advice on what colors to use to achieve a very light cool gold?

Is there a video which goes into greater detail regarding the use of the Molotow paints you used in this video?

Thanks for your videos, I am learning so much! Just wondering where can I get molotow one4all acrylic paint in the US?Thanks
Great video. I found it very informative. Did you use burnt sienna or the contrast paints on the other two versions of the gold as well?
Thanks a million 😊! No, I used different approaches to show how much freedom you have working on this huge topic
Do you recommend using TMM Oils? specifically Id like to try Abteilung TMM oils, or mix metallic pigments for miniatures with an oil medium.

Did the oil shading go directly onto the paint, or was there a layer of varnish added prior to application of the oil?
Excellent tutorial! Thanks for th elink too! Can I ask you what type of brush you use for the oil paint?
Thanks! It's a cheap soft synthetic brush that I use only for oils 😊
Would there be a difference if you used a glossy white primer vs a black?
What about Rose Gold paint? The Plaid or Apple Barrel paint should work when it is thinned properly.
Incredible!
