Prestur's First Lesson with Gudmar

Prestur, 4 years old when we took him to Gudmar's clinic, had just been started for a few weeks that summer. He was started, like Thokki, by the same trainer with no experience with Icelandic horses but loads of experience starting and training other breeds. We bred Prestur, by the way, to become my riding horse and Thokki to be Sarah's. He had just come off a 5 hour trailer ride for his first long distance trip away from home!

I love how he is letting her ride this youngster on a pretty lose rein, its so important to wait with keeping the contact to the mouth. I love how he is using a simple bridle with a simple bit and no noseband. He is free to open his mouth or adjust to whatever discomfort he may feel. Its nice to see that this horse seems to relaxed when he is still so young. Great work by the rider!

Why use the bit? It seems so irritating to that sweet horse.

This horse is ridden in a hollow back😢. No rythem
Rider is way too busy moving her entire body- no internal quietness
Bending a horse into a Banana only unbalanced the horse, makes his spine rotate- which does NOT help the horse to relax.
Why do so many people fall for a trainer like that?
One that trains a horse to be Unbalanced?
Forcing a horse to go forward ( " he has to go ") if unbalanced is counter to normal training.
Teach this human to ride properly, help the horse to relax and WALK in rythem would help this cute youngster much more than the misinforming advice the trainer is giving.
