Is it time to redefine what it means to live a rich life? In a world where we're constantly bombarded with images of material success, it's easy to fall into the trap of comparing ourselves to others and believing that more money means more happiness. But what if there's more to wealth than just money?
What if the richest people aren't those with the most money but those with the most meaningful lives?
This week, I'm thrilled to welcome Robin Sharma to my Feel Better Live More podcast. Robin is a globally respected humanitarian who has devoted over a quarter of a century to helping humans realise their native gifts. One of the top leadership and personal mastery experts in the world, he advises companies such as NASA, Nike, Microsoft, Starbucks, Yale University and the Young Presidents’ Organization.
He’s the author of several international bestsellers, including ‘The 5AM Club’ and ‘The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari’. In his latest book, ‘The Wealth Money Can’t Buy: The 8 Hidden Habits to Live Your Richest Life’, Robin aims to change our perception to include not just financial success but seven other essential forms of wealth, too.
In our conversation, we explore Robin’s concept of the ‘eight forms of wealth’, including physical and mental wellness, rich family relationships, fulfilling work and strong community connections. We discuss why traditional self-help approaches often fall short, particularly in the realm of personal growth and happiness, and how society’s obsession with hustle culture and toxic positivity has exacerbated the problem of burnout and dissatisfaction.
Robin is perhaps best known for his thriving 5AM Club community and in this episode, he shares insights on the power of intentional morning routines, including his five-question morning maximiser, and the value of continuous learning. We delve into practical strategies for implementing these principles in various life situations, even for those of us who have busy schedules or family responsibilities.
We also touch on the importance of nature, disconnecting from technology, and finding moments to savour in our daily lives. We explore the value of service, small acts of kindness, and how we can all live our lives to the fullest.
Robin’s perspective on what it truly means to live a rich life is a powerful reminder for us all and his approach offers a much-needed alternative to the endless pursuit of material success, showing us how to create a life that's ‘wealthy’ in all the ways that matter most. I hope you enjoy listening.

Over a hundred years ago, William James said: "It is certain that the prevalent fear of poverty among the educated classes is the worst moral disease from which our civilization suffers." We must stop worshipping those who pursue wealth at any cost. We must praise those, especially of the younger generation, who turn away from the paths of conventional success, and towards the paths of their hearts. Our culture must make this seismic shift, for the sake of our souls-and all the inhabitants of our planet.

When my beloved mum died, all the advice was to start clearing her home by disposing of impersonal and unsentimental stuff. I followed my instincts instead and walked straight into the storm by working on her room. It was full of items, cards and letters that left me in pieces for hours at a time - but it was also very cathartic. After about a week of sitting with my grief, I was better able to cope with clearing other areas of the home. I know grief is highly individual and this approach wouldn’t be for everyone but it really helped me to process what had happened.

As a psychotherapist specialised in weight and body image issues, I've seen things changing in the last ten years. Many people come and see me after having tried some of these "just do this and you won't believe how your life will change" advices. They've heard about them through some podcast, on social media or in books. They want quick results, quick fixes. But it doesn't work that way, at least on the long term. It takes time, patience and courage to heal from trauma. I often tell them (when they see me to lose weight): being slim won't make you happy but being happy will help you losing weight.
We have to stop letting people believe that their life can improve with tips...

its not all about feelings. its about nutrition. its very likely this person with weight issues has had all their eletrolytes burned up dealing with stress.
the only electrolyte is NOT sodium. healthy electrolytes include calcium
addressing a calcium deficiency, a magnesium deficiency helped me overcome all of what you described.
its NOT about emotions. its about nutrition.
calcium, makes you relax and sleepy, this is what happens to me.
stress burns electrolytes. emotional type therapy will never work unless the nutritional deficiencies are addressed.
yes, the emotional side is important, but it will never get better until the physical side is addressed.
electrolyte tablets are sold on amazon and other places, i take these, they really help.

People just need motivation, or more precisely, subconscious self-programming. I am 60 years old, and my condition is 30, and everyone who sees me on the sports field begins to subconsciously be programmed for good health, energy, gets motivated to exercise, and, accordingly, reduce body fat. So, you can show my videos to your patients and you will see an amazing effect!

I've been what I call a chronic early riser as long as I can remember. I love mornings but there are times I wish I could sleep later. That said, my early morning walks around my suburban neighborhood are something I enjoy a great deal. I used to be a gym rat, which is fine for exercising. And I still go once or twice a week. But today, I wouldn't trade my walks for any other form of exercise. It's not exactly walking in what most people would think of as nature. But at 4 AM, when it's dark and quiet and you can hear the birds and see the many trees silhouetted against the moonlight - not to mention an occasional coyote - you realize that you are, indeed, walking in nature. Safe travels and many blessings.

The problem is that people do not take the words/teaching they learn into APPLICATION.
We are not perfect. That statement of "see the perfection of who you are" is a big problem. Indeed, it is important to embrace oneself fully, the good and the bad - and then dedicate oneself (through living application) to better oneself. It is not by reading another book and watching another podcast that things will change - it is by picking ONE thing that you want to improve and dedicate yourself to it. Writing is key to deconstruct the problem and discover solutions. It took time to become who we are today, it will take time to change - but if you give up = the preprorgamming will kick in and you're doomed to remain the same, dissatisfied with yourself and with life.

As someone who struggled with depression for years and is now an EXTREMELY happy person, I can tell you that there absolutely are ways that you can become happier. And I'm not saying that you will be feeling positive emotions all of the time. Nor should you because being positive every second of every day is a sign of mania. But true happiness is about both feeling good most of the time and living up to your values. I'm thankful for the times that I struggle because one of my values is to be a life long learner and challenges are how I best learn. Also it allows me to relate to people who are still struggling like I used to, especially my clients. I work with people with mental illness and I have so much hope for them. Just because you're depressed now does NOT mean you will be depressed forever and yes it is possible that someday you'll be so happy! Good luck to everyone who wants more happiness especially if you're struggling!

I often wonder what would happen if the grid crashed, gas wasn’t available for people to commute & sports were not there to distract people from dealing with reality. It would be horrible. All these toxic positivity & materialistic people would prob be unable to cope long. Hustle culture has almost killed me. I’ve learned now to hustle means to do what I can and cut myself some slack that I’m not on it 24/7. It’s hard but I’m trying to let those mindsets go

For me it took a complete breakdown because my expectations were too high I realized. I was so miserable It broke me and I gave up all my expectations and desires because I didn't know what else to do. Oddly enough it was the best thing I could have ever done. It got me to explore meditation and finding a deeper sense of love within myself and acceptance. I've never plugged into my life so deeply before. If life hadn't come along and slapped me in the face I would have walked myself right over a cliff. Now all I want to do is plug into the moment and find the beauty that is there. Too many people are not in touch with reality. It is impossible for one to be 100% hyper-happy all the time. I see some of the younger generations with a hyper-Pollyanna mentality, when confronted with real shitty situations they seem to have a meltdown to where more realistic people will acknowledge the situation for what it is and start to deal with it in a practical way.

I believe there’s a balance to everything. You certainly want to practice some gratitude, magnify what you do have try not to magnify the deficits, but be aware of them. Admit to them and live in a state of reality and know that they are there and try to be proactive on how to fix things. It could be financial , health , mental , emotional physical, the list can be long. I lost my husband back in 2013 to a catastrophic disease. Grief is one of the most difficult things to navigate, but there is only one way to go and that is through. So whenever I have other difficulties which never compared to that one, I always practice that, that the only way to go is through. Awareness and appreciation is helpful, but denial is not.

Savoured the entire talk completely. However I have a disconnect with the red flag theory that essentially isn’t a brain child of either of the speakers.
Show me a person on this planet who doesn’t have their own share of behaviours that would come across as red flags to others. We all perceive this world with the glasses of beliefs we wear and it’s next to impossible that someone will measure up to our satisfaction if we don’t become accepting of the fact that people are different and everyone behaves in their own unique way in different circumstances.
Relationships should not be only about nit picking and skeptically looking out for what’s wrong in others, but finding common grounds where we can connect. There is nothing called a perfect relationship for it doesn’t exist. But since we humans have a huge social need to belong together, we must endure what comes as a part of the package which is people are unique in their behaviours and handling of situations.
The ones who are looking for red flags will surely find many and if their belief is firm, they will mostly find themselves alone. And yes, no problem in being alone too if one finds solitude soothing to company which is definitely not going to be as per their expectations.

I like when rich people say that money doesn't make you happy, yet they are very important part in creating that happiness, i.e. if you know that you you need a therapist and you don't have money you still will be broken emotionally, you would like to travel and you don't have money- guess what you will go nowhere, you would like to learn new things or try new experiences and without money you can't do those either. Obviously money aren't everything but they can resolve a lot because they give you " THE GIFT OF TIME" which will help us to find ourselves, who we are and what we would like or supposed to do in our life. Money helps us to stop and think for ourselves so we don't follow blindly the society and its demands. just a thought 👍

    On the singing garbage-collector guy:
The problem wasn't with _him_ (he was literally in a private inner place where he could sing) - but is a testament to society & the local World around him.
He is so used to toxic interactions, not coming from a place of goodness or love - that an unexpected interaction of love, still had to be processed through the same filter required for the majority of likely interactions - which will be toxic (i.e. where he is treated rudely, ignored, invisible, disrespected).

Nothing wrong with being addicted to self-help. Have as much as you want. Positivity needs to be backed up by knowledge, if you are ignorant about the truth and the universal laws, just being positive without understanding what it is that you're going through won't help. Purification is the first step.

The very and only base for any change is a direct experience. For example, no matter how you can argue that money does not count the most only direct experience of abundance or loss can prove and show so called the truth. People who became wealthy or achieved success in society speak from their subjective perspective. People who does not have their experience of abundance have different perspective. They may try to believe them but without direct personal experiences there always be the room for doubt.

    My opinion.
    1. We did not evolve to be happy, we evolved to strive for something. If we have all our needs met, the instinct to strive for something is rationalised by our concept of "happiness."
    2. It can make more sense to fix current negatives than seek fresh positives.
    3. You can only feel positive emotions at the present. You have to make the most of and be grateful for now and also recognise the need to plan for future nows.

EXPERIMENT : About 15 years ago this 16 year old teen across the road told me he was sad because his girlfriend dumped him for another guy.I didn't tell him to smile and suck up the hurt I suggested using art to reach the pain and heal it.I told him to find 10 songs about love that moved him but not angry punk rock or heavy metal anger. He would listen to these 10 songs for days when he felt hurt rising and he came out positive and happy on the otherside.
Then I worked with him to find his passion in life and his curiousity. He said he loved !! cooking meals for his parents and sister and he had this pleasure smile on his face.He later went to College and is a big chef in Toronto , Canada. His parents think I'm the magic man and they never stopped thanking me. :0) The only way through the pain is to walk into it.

My dreams with material wealth isn’t to buy Ferrari or nice watches… my dream is to have my extended family with me when skiing. To have my dear friends when we go to football tournaments or other festivals. Lastly, in investment to the unfortunate so they can increase their quality of life. The returns I desire is positive impact. The reason I use invest rather than give because I do risk assessment in even my giving. I’ve grown to not seek recognition.. too much attention is not what I desire. I just like peace & good times.. even through thick & thin.

self help industry vs. actual self help. self help industry is not about solutions for YOU, its about $$. Actual self help does not make anyone else money so its suppressed.
    1. healthy internal dialogue. keep it to yourself, make it truthful based on your knowledge at that time, never let it go. never ever let go of your own healthy internal dialogue, where you comment about what is happening right now. no suspending disbelief. hang onto your own healthy internal dialogue. why?
    2. the inside of you, at your core, your spirit, listens almost exclusively to your internal dialogue. if your spirit hears your internal dialogue repeating lies from others, your spirit doesn't know this context, basically you scare yourself. by not holding on to your own internal dialogue, you are scaring yourself by believing the lies of others. (likely because they make money off their lies.)
    3. there are no invisible demons, devils and satans. these are people, point at something invisible so they can escape responsibility. no story is too outrageous for bad people who just want to take everything. demons devils and satans are people.
the truth, planted right inside me, invisible to others, a secret, is my sword and my shield. it allows me to see the truth of the ugliness, to face it strongly and to walk away.

I hate to break it to you guys, but anything can become an addiction or distraction.
People look for help, self or otherwise, when they are distraught, unwell, confused and uneducated in realms of medicine, mental health and spirituality.
The subjects and objects are not to blame or at fault.
It's more about our lack of willingness to give up our time to help those suffering.
We need very little from the outside to actually support each other in life.
Time, curiosity, charity (generosity) and willingness to bear with moments that are less than rewarding until much later.
