    Hey everyone! I did want to mention playing Will as an Approach of the Second Sun deck as well. Playing this card + mystical tutor can often just win games. I didn't mention this because that was NOT the play experience I was going for, but if you want a more competitive deck, do it. Will is just begging to run this card, but I know my groups would hate playing against it.
    Also, if you get something out of the video, please subscribe! We are growing quickly, but I want to keep up the momentum. New videos every Wednesday. Don't forget to turn on your notifications for the channel and leave a comment, too!

    EDHREC isn’t lying. They are just an accumulation of information of what people are doing. Gotta take that information and approach it critically.

    Honestly, I wish you all the good karma in the world in growing this channel. ive watched two of your videos so far and you think about deck making the same way i do. Your analytical breakdowns and reasoning is spot on... You had me at Most people dont like the term YOU WIN THE GAME lol.... many a salty night has ended with people who use those cards in the wrong setting lol...
    anyways keep doing you brother..i really hope you get the rub of the algorithm and blow up because i could listen to you talk about deck building all day as it just felt like i was having my own brain talk out loud
    much love

      This really means a lot to me. My main goal of just putting out something that is ACTUALLY useful. As I think a lot of channels just shoot out basic recommendations without the "substance."
      I really hope you stick around for my future videos. Cheers, friend.

      @@Tempest-Official glad to hear that my friend. And yeah i kinda agree as entertaining as some channels are they really only scratch the bare min of deck building with actual play in mind... The fact you'll cut cards that are staples because they don't fit theme or synegise with a deck is absolutely wonderful. I'll stay tuned xx

    Excellent. Watched every Will video it felt like everyone was building it wrong. Missing the importance of low pips and low cost spells. By far the best one. Really appreciate the overall in-depth analysis. Love the overall approach to the game. I’ve subscribed.

    Your deck techs are a breath of fresh air when a lot of the other deck techs out there don’t really go into the same detail about individual card choices and the goals of the deck. A lot of them simply list card choices and at-a-glance info about them but otherwise don’t take into account the cost or color requirements or how well they work with the plan.
    Over the years, I’ve come to take EDHRec’s scores with a grain of salt because while they seem to synergize on paper, they often don’t really gel together in practice and I wish more people realize this. Your consciously challenging those stats, and not just for the sake of challenging the stats but to make the deck better, is one of the things that won me over. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more content from you!

    My lessons learned building this deck: don’t run life gain doublers, nothing is worse than drawing them when you have no way to gain life. Also, the core to the deck is running 10-12 angels/flying life-link creatures preferably with 4 power or more. This means building around getting one of them out by turn 4 at the latest. Also run all the draw x spells, the quickest way the deck loses is by running out of steam. Limit the number of cards that don’t support getting out angels, drawing cards and protection. Finally, finale of revelation is the best card in this deck (assuming you aren’t playing extra turns etc) I don’t run tutors in the deck anymore because if I could get that card the game is basically over

    5:21 you say that we can use Soul Warden effects to make use of instants and cost reduction. However, Will says that his tap ability can only be activated as a sorcery. It means that it's exclusively for comboing on your turn, unless I am missing something.

    • @mexskinner5411

    I really like that there is another Azorius commander making some waves. Hylda also looks pretty interesting to me but maybe less laser focused like Will, the Scion of Peace. I wanted to include him in my 99 but I realized I just already have SO MUCH convoke in my deck and not enough lifegain mechanics that it would actually be sorta BAD in my current fave Azorius deck...Having stuff like Flockchaser Phantom, Wand of the Worldsoul and Invasion of Segovia just give me SO MUCH convoke value on top of the fact that I'm running a mostly Human Soldiers or Human Soldier Token creators build so I will always have LOTS of easy ways to "cheat out" more expensive cards than I may have the actual mana rocks or lands for. As a Commander that you build around though, I can see how Will could be a devastatingly good and fun commander. Only problem I can see is that, people will KNOW your trick and will just try to mess up your commander with some sort of Enchantment that makes him perma tapped unless xyz happens or turn him into a frog with no abilities or what have you.

  • @AlexSShole
    @AlexSShole ปีที่แล้ว

    I actually built my deck a week before the set released. It is 4-0 in group play and 0-1 in 1v1. I absolutely love this deck, not only because I share a name with the commander, but because it's a problem. The 1v1 I lost was to atraxa infect, which is the worst scenario for Will. The only wincon I had was stormherd in those games. Mystical tutor is a key include.

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Funny enough, I actually already build an Ovika list! It is such a fun casual commander. I have been thinking of making a more "budget" spotlight for certain commanders and this one has been on my mind.
      Also, Jim from the Spike Feeders has a list that was very interesting. I would check out the recent video from Elder Dragon Hijinks if you haven't already!

  • @TheMusicjunkie5
    @TheMusicjunkie5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I've also seen that Edhrec suggests a lot of X spells that gain you life, but to be honest that is very counter intuitive. You want to use the X spells AFTER you have gained life. You should already have plenty of lifegain without that kind of effect.

  • @ialwaysbluff

    With Defenders of Humanity, does the cost reduction apply when you’re using it the second time? Or is that an activated ability?

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  ปีที่แล้ว

      Will specifies "spells you cast". So in this case, his cost reduction does NOT apply the later activated ability.

  • @Freund2300
    @Freund2300 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    ? i thought cost reduction could not reduce commander tax ever? have i been bamboozled?

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. You have been bamboozled. The commander tax is an ADDED cost to the spell which is added before any type of reduction.
      So Will can in fact cost reduce himself.

    It's so strange in my playgroup. The other guys don't care if its a 4 card combo that goes infinite, they don't want to see ANYTHING go infinite.... meanwhile every card that says "win the game" sees play...

  • @bazzam429
    @bazzam429 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens if you have an artifact or enchantment that's a threat (most likely more than 3 mana) and that 1 mana white specific removal isn't as effective. Yeah you'll hit the sol ring or mana crypt, but you aren't stopping the actual threat and will lose.

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see where you are coming from. I will point out that we do include Generous Gift, Heliod's Intervention, Cyclonic Rift, Light of Hope, and of course the lucky offering you are referencing.
      I didn't have time to include all of these in the video, but you will certainly have answers. But I think you as the deck builder have the agency to pick and choose which cards you want to include. If your specific group is heavier on the artifact/enchantment wins, then absolutely run more spot removal for those things. Either way. I hope you got something out of the video and thank you for watching/commenting!

  • @olafwulfgarson1224
    @olafwulfgarson1224 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I don't get why Felidar and other 'you win the game' wincons get the hate. I think they are extremely weak wincons, because they're slow, don't win you the game the same turn you deploy them. Like other colors do. In one turn, red burns you to death, Black drains you, Green deploys Behemoth, Blue can mill you out or win with the Oracle. But white must wait the whole rotation and people have plenty of ways to stop it - remove it, boardwipe, kill the player, drop the life total below 40... I never won with those wincons because my opponents were always able to kill it (despite protection) or kill me. While red/black/blue players often win out of nowhere.
    Compare that with Rowan who can win extremely easily: If Rowan's out, you just cast life reducer and follow up with many many burn X spells or Exsanguinate/Torment of Hellfire...

    • @Tempest-Official
      @Tempest-Official  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I totally get it. Although I structure these videos to be as user friendly as possible, we can certainly miss the mark as we approach more competitive builds.
      I would agree that in a competitive setting, those white win cons have their drawbacks.
      Although those win cons don't bother me in the casual scene, I have seen plenty of upset people on the other end of the table.
