I'm almost 60...a retired school superintendent. When my friends were going to keggers and partying, I was at the arcade playing Track & Field by Konami. One of my "accomplishments" was driving the entire distance of I35, north to south, setting the high score on every machine I could find. If you remember chasing SPK on these machines, you're welcome. And until they retrofitted the game with roller balls, I held those scores for a couple of years. What was the value of that accomplishment? Seriously, what did I get out of it? What message should I have been giving all the gamer kids in my schools who spent countless hours doing stuff like this? Well, it helped me escape a generational cycle of alcohol abuse, poverty and incarceration. It fostered the belief that if I set my mind to something, even something that seemed impossible, I could do it. It taught me that just because other people found no value in what I was doing, even people I respected, that they didn't get to determine what had value for me. When my run was over and I chased other goals, I did so believing in myself. Other than those things, gaming was a complete waste of my time. Congratulations Willis Gibson! Seriously...good for you.
@@NotTheBestTH-camr Sorry, I missed this reply. I was a small school superintendent. So, I knew the kids. I felt like I had a real opportunity to help them and give them a little hope. Tetris is a game from the 80s that reached its peak popularity with the release of the Game Boy version. If we disregard the notion that he wasted an immense amount of time playing a video game that could have been spent honing his intellectual faculties, the fact still remains that he accomplished something while playing an antiquated game that most people haven't played in earnest for years, and far fewer people have even attempted to reach the "kill screen". In order for an accomplishment to be truly great, it has to contribute something to society, and it has to be something that hundreds of thousands or even millions of people have attempted to accomplish.

"Beating Tetris is not a life goal" 1. life goals are based on opinion, you don't decide what is or what is not a life goal, drinking WATER could be a life goal for someone. 2. Beating Tetris is an insane achievement and being the first to achieve something is a life goal.
Just wanted to say that if you want to define a life goal as something, like something that makes you remembered, or something you want to accomplish with your life as a whole, Blue Scuti did both of these things, not to mention that they are 13 years old, they shouldn't be thinking about what they want to do with the rest of their life and should be having fun in the moment.
Imagine being a full grown adult and making fun of a 13 YEAR OLD for being the first to beat a classic video game. That’s next levels of “I hate myself so I take it out on others”
To put yourself in her shoes, I would not be surprised if her own children are having addiction issues with video games. She is projecting her own anger
She's not making fun of him; she's proffering life advice. Her daughter would never date a boy like him. It's admirable that she's out there saying what other adults won't tell him. If he takes her advice and changes the way he conducts himself, he might be able to find himself a girlfriend when he gets to HS.
See the difference is that the once-in-a-lifetime goal of being the first person to beat Tetris is in fact a life goal, and belittling others for their goals and achievements, is not.
The fact that she almost acted as if what she said WAS he lifegoal; she was so insanely proud of that stupid joke she made about some awesome kid who beated something never thought to be possible. Why, especially if you are a parent, would you ever try and belittle not only an ecstatic child, but a prodigy?

Say what you want, but if you ever go into the video game industry -- whether it's video game development or not -- being able to say "I was the first person to get the kill screen on a beloved game that everyone knows" is a hell of an icebreaker, at the very least.
I'm 52 and I'm impressed . Good for him . I always encourage my kids to go for it in games . It's a self goal . There's worst stuff out there that they can be doing .

Runners chasing a milestone will rarely get mad or jealous of a competitor reaching their common goal first, they *know* the kind of insane grind it's taken to get there, they've been living it as well. "it's not a life goal" A 13 years old went on to beat a game which had been living for 30+ years. This game is a generational treasure and no one before him could have thought of this as even a possibility. He did what no one could in 30+ years in such a short time. Congratulations blue scuti.
Sure it isn't a life goal. But it is a goal. And the guy achieved it just by having fun at 13 btw. So maybe it would make sense to say "it's not a life goal" if a 50+ year old man who has been doing that for 40+ years did it but it's just a kid. Also why belittle the achievement?
i heard about Blue Scuti from another video about this. Scuti publicly stated that he would go head to head with someone else to beat them, and as that other person was streaming an attempt he heard Scuti was extremely close, stopped his game, watched Scuti's game, and was genuinely hyped when Scuti got the killscreen. The fact that even Scuti's biggest opponent was excited for him despite being close to getting it himself makes this whole story even more awesome
i believe the player you mentioned is Fractal, the current CTWC world champion. the classic tetris community is extremely competetive and at the same time friendly, fair and shows great sportsmanship...which is very rare in a competetive environment. if you are interested in a grea match i would suggest the 2023 CTWC finals between Fractal and Sydnev :)

Not to mention, the community surrounding it was extremely wholesome. When Fractal was racing Blue Scuti, he heard that Blue Scuti was about to hit the true kill screen, he stopped to watch his stream and was immediate excited and supportive instead of being mad or jealous. Thats rare and it warmed my heart to see it
Fractal didn't even stop to watch Blue Scuti, he let his own run die to watch his competitor achieve the impossible.
Runners chasing a milestone will rarely get mad or jealous of a competitor reaching their common goal first, they *know* the kind of insane grind it's taken to get there, they've been living it as well. It's their audiences, or downright outsiders looking in that expect the race to be some kind of cutthroat cockfight where they're constantly eyeing each other like they're about to steal their prize.
Because that's what wholesome gamers doo
"As a mother i think you need to get some fresh air"
"As a stable human being i think you need to realise that this kid is probably making more money than you right now"
Omg she'll be a great laughingstock in the future
So damn weird. Who said beating Tetris is his "life goal"? It's his hobby, he set a goal for himself and achieved it. That woman clearly has some issues, midlife crisis perhaps?
right? like life goal.. he's 13. he just STARTED his life. it's obviously not his lifelong goal and it's just a hobby
I would also have a crisis if my life was that mid to hate on 13 year olds
Well, a life goal met at 13 is a pretty great achievement 😂
"it's not a life goal" A 13 years old went on to beat a game which had been living for 30+ years. This game is a generational treasure and no one before him could have thought of this as even a possibility. He did what no one could in 30+ years in such a short time. Congratulations blue scuti.
It’s not though, it’s not a life goal.
What a nice woman!
I hope she won't belittle a thirteen-year-old kid for being "fatherless and not touching some grass" out of massive jealousy.
@@StoneCorazon "it's not a life goal" so what?
Sure it isn't a life goal. But it is a goal. And the guy achieved it just by having fun at 13 btw. So maybe it would make sense to say "it's not a life goal" if a 50+ year old man who has been doing that for 40+ years did it but it's just a kid. Also why belittle the achievement?

"Why don't you go outside and get some fresh air? Beating Tetris is not a life goal."
becoming a journalist is not a life goal either. disgusting
i heard about Blue Scuti from another video about this.
Who ever said 80's movies couldn't be real life?!
it's nice to see people getting along.
it's okay to be competitive as long as it's still friendly, and this is more than that.
this makes me happy.
I saw a vid which covered the whole thing and the whole Tetris community came across as very nice people.
Fractal is a real one, super humble. He also became the second person to hit the killscreen, shortly after watching Scuti get it.
The way she said it's not a life goal and laughed, it's clearly not a life goal because he's only 13 so he has way more left to achieve

the thing that bothers me about some of the articles and most of these comments is the fact that it isn't just dumb that she's making fun of a 13 year old "having fun," or how he's only 13 so he shouldn't be worrying about providing for his family or something and it's dumb of her to say that.. it's dumb because this IS a life goal. this game has been out for 35 years and this is the biggest achievement in the entire history of the game. the only achievement that will top this is when a runner gets to rebirth. the fact that he's 13 has nothing to do with this, this IS a life goal, this is the same as somebody getting an insane accomplishment in a sport, sure the community is smaller but this is 35 years of 100s of thousands of people trying their hardest and this guy did it first. this is not a kid "having fun," this is a human being accomplishing a ridiculously hard feat that only a handful of people in the world can even dream of being close to. even if people put years of their life into this game 99% of people could never do what he did.
so no, the main part that pisses me off isn't how she makes fun of a 13 year old for enjoying a game. the main part that pisses me off is how all the "good" articles and tons of comments really do think it's just a 13 year old enjoying a game, they dont get the magnitude of this event unless they watched a video explaining it
