    When I was in high school, I once skipped class to do something off campus. As the day went on, I got hungry and saw a Long John Silver's restaurant nearby. I decided to go in and order a combo box of popcorn shrimp and hushpuppies. Unfortunately, the food was soggy and unappetizing. I regretted my decision and felt like I was being punished for skipping class. This experience taught me to think twice before skipping class again.

Well if you decide to procrastinate with Long John Silver's, you'll get food poisoning as a result! That'll be a lesson. LJS could be an opposite Starbucks, where you sit there to force yourself to get your work done, and then get the fuck out of there without ordering anything. Worked for Taco Bell, Burger King, McDonald's, Sonic, Wendy's, and Carls Jr. (in order over about 12 years) and every single place had an unprofessional group of employees. It's not solely a long John Silvers issue. At McDonald's one of my co-workers literally dropped a McDouble on the ground and when he was about to throw it away our boss told him not to waste product and just use a napkin to wipe it off. At Sonic the cooks never wore gloves, at Carls Jr our boss (a 40 year-old who was around 450 pounds) would take home a dozen burgers every shift and let us all eat for free if we didn't tell anyone. At Taco Bell one of my coworkers blew his nose into a burrito prior to folding it up because he knew the customer and didn't like him.

      It's because wild fish has been heavily over fished. They transitioned to farmed fish and tried to say its better for various reasons. I could go on, but all of the food bought in most places is extremely under par due to humanity over eating and not having their own or at least using locally sourced foods. A lot of 1st world countries are over eating, and because of that, the quality of food has dropped dramatically. We shouldn't be able to get what we want, when we want. There are seasons for a reason. Consumerist society at its peak and everything suffers because of it. But who am I to say, I'm just a lonely warrior in my garden doing my bit for my loved ones. The most shocking thing about LJS is that it's lasted this long. The last time I went to the one in my town was in 1993, and even back then you could tell that it was worse than the other fast food places. It finally shut down in 2017, but there's still one in the next town over. It's unbelievable.

      I think they're part of that Yum Brands empire that also owns Taco Bell, KFC, A&W, etc. Apparently, KFC makes about 200 billion dollars per minute in Asia, so they've got money to waste on things like LJS. I suspect they kinda forgot it exists, or no one can be bothered to do the paperwork and it's easier to keep it running. Lol

I remember getting some fish and hush puppies there, and about 10 minutes after we finished our meal, I had a sharp pain in my stomach. I ran into the restroom in our suite and was just vomiting for a good minute. • @akalg4942
    @akalg4942 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +685

    Quick story:
    I once pulled a giant, what I thought was fried, bubble off of the end of a fish filet from LJS. It was like a round chunk of crunchiness, or so I thought. If you were ever a fan of LJS as my family and I were when I was a kid, then you'd know the little fried pieces in the basket and the fried ends of the filets were "the best part". Well on my last, and final, trip to Long John Silver's, I pulled that big fried bubble of heart attack off the end of the fish preparing to eat it and just before I bit into it, liquid fucking batter starts pouring out of it! Yes, batter! They didn't even cook it to time or temp so, oddly enough, I'm actually thankful this happened rather than biting into the fish and losing the ability to walk forever. Atleast this stopped me in my tracks while I metaphorically still had legs and feet to make them. I was repulsed, mortified, and extremely disappointed as my family and I were among the apparent few that enjoyed LJS. This was at the drive-thru and the manager was working the window for some reason. He was making small talk with me while rushing the staff yelling "Where's my fish?!". I always assumed the cook got anxious out of fear of upsetting the boss so he pulled the fish too early, hence the disgusting experience. I never went back and told the manager what happened as I was roadtripping and decided not to hassle with it but I'm pretty sure I could have caused quite the stir, which I believe was warranted. Looking back I should have atleast called to let the manager know he needs to slow the fuck down before he kills someone. Crazy! Lessons Learned: Order your food well-done and NEVER eat at LJS again!
    True story. Thanks!

    • @Skye-gs7zg
      @Skye-gs7zg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +37

      It probably wasn't the managers decision, and managers only work window when there's literally no one else available. It's them having to take on extra work. Granted, I haven't worked at LJS specifically. But every fast food position I have worked over the years, corporate times out how long it takes us to get orders out. Doesn't matter if you're bare bones staff, if you've gotten some giant orders, if a truck shipment didn't come in, if staff is just having an off day or a super busy day, or a combination of those things. Corporate only looks at the times. And if you're a manager and you run a shift that's late on too many orders, corporate will notice. And they'll be mad. I'm sure the manager was panicking throughout this interaction because they didn't want to get in trouble with their boss. And that results in poor quality. It's corporates fault at the end of the day, because those guys don't care if you get an undercooked meal. They don't have to serve it to you, they don't care if you leave a bad review, they just want the numbers to look good. And that goes for every franchise, not just LJS. Anything from Arby's, to Culvers, to Panera, to Dunkin, to Chipotle. It's all the same really. Some franchises, like LJS, are underfunded and neglected. But, as much as I still eat fast food, I know I'm taking a risk with the quality every time I place an order. Even if I've been to a specific location many times.

    I have nostalgia. I always would get long john silver in texas because of my dad. He was sick and had to go out of town frequently for doctors appointments and our small town had closed around 2007/2008 (not entirely sure as i was a kid) my dad got sick when i was 15 (that was 2015) anyways when he would come home from his doctors visits from out of town he would always bring me long john silvers. He passed away over 2yrs ago. I moved to ca towards the end of 2020. I have yet to find a long john silvers close to where I live. The fact that your intro mentioned Long John Silvers brought me to tears bc i miss my dad and now oddly I want Long john Silvers. I havent had it since i was 19 yrs old. Im now 23 yrs old. 0:02

    Speaking of shady restaurants. There was a hole in the wall restaurant downtown Toronto that I used to go to when I had only a few bucks to spare for dinner. Everything was so cheap. You could spend $3 on a meal and be good and full. They made everything from cheap grocery name brand stuff like Wonderbread etc. The only way a place like that could stay above water is if it was owned by the mob. Edit: This was around 2015. I went once with a friend as mostly a joke. Everyone says it's the worst fast food place, it's seafood (not good for fastfood), and the meme "long john silver's enjoyer" was pretty popular at the time. We saw it on the side of the road and just went on a whim, curious if it was as bad as people say it is. Surprisingly, the food was pretty great! I got the 12 pack of fried shrimp, and my friend got the platter that gave you two chicken strips, a piece of fried fish, and two pieces of fried shrimp. Obviously, its fried food, not the healthiest or the best type of seafood in the world, but it was edible, and neither of us got sick afterward (which I guess shouldn't be high praise, but for seafood it's not a guarantee).
    Now, it was a joint restaurant merging with a KFC, but I haven't been a fan of KFC before either, so it wasn't like it was going to raise the quality *that* much. It's also worth mentioning it was a LJS in Florida, which has a much better way of accessing fresh(er) seafood than other parts of the country. It's also the only LJS I've been to, so it might just be a diamond in a sea of shit, but for what it could've been it was a pretty good diamond. The LJS was also pristine, very unusual for a fast food restaurant, let alone a LJS.
    As for making a Tier List, you're better off not trying. It's too risky to go and possibly get a bad restaurant, and with how finnicky seafood can be, it's not worth it. I'm just happy I pulled the biggest lottery win of all time going to LJS and getting good food.

    I used to work at Long John Silvers, but it was a combined restaurant with A&W (btw you should try if you haven't). I will say I never ate the fish but I heard the quality went down fast after it sat. If you get it fresh, it's not bad. It's just rarely fresh because no one goes there. It is also a place by place varies. It's all the same food, but the people that make it make a difference. The battered food is actually hand battered, so it could be light/heavy battered. same with the hush puppies, some are small and others large. Overall tho it's not worth the price anymore. my family used to do family meals that were a lot of food and not a bad price.
