  • In this video, I prune a Hass avocado seedling to encourage branching. The seedlings will grow out a nice canopy of branches, and for people who grow avocado seeds at home this is a fun way to shape different size plants.

    Thanks for the great videos. I’m new to this and was wondering if you could offer some advice.
    I water rooted a seed for about 3 weeks and then transferred it to soil. Not only am I realizing that that may have been way too fast but I’m also noticing that the stem may not be as strong as I could be.
    Would you recommend returning to water rooting until it’s stronger or pruning it back as is? The leaves are pretty small but the plant is about 18 inches.
    Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

    I need some help. I have 3 avocado trees from seedlings that I'm very attached to but I'm moving out of California to Colorado, possibility Michigan. I don't want to leave them behind and thought about getting one of those grow tents that people use to grow weed because it seems like it would fit my avocados. Other issue is the two oldest are very tall and I never pruned them (which is why I'm here looking at your video). One of them just got a few leaves down near the base recently but otherwise they have very tall stems and only have leaves at the very very top. Having them be so tall makes it hard to transport them and it's not a good time of year to cut them back! Not sure what to do but I really don't want to leave them behind.

    • @TheElsinoreGardener
      @TheElsinoreGardener  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Live Collegiate Shag You can cut them down and take them with you. If you keep them in a container that you can handle and bring inside when it’s cold you will be able to grow it. Take it outside when it’s going to be warm and you should be ok. When you cut it it will flush out more branches. You can then keep it a manageable size.

    Hello, i have some questions, i grew my avocado back in may, and it produces many leaves but its height is only about 10 cm tall until now, i saw some leaves turned yellowish a couple days ago so i thought maybe it's overwatered and i should move it to soil, my questions are, is my avocado growth normal or is it slow? Since i saw people's avocado is pretty tall after a couple months, is my decision correct to move it to soil because of yellowish leaves or do the leaves turn yellow because of another problem? And how many times i should water my avocado a week? Thank you, have a great day

    • @TheElsinoreGardener
      @TheElsinoreGardener  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Watering depends on a lot of things, soil type, temperature, dryness of the air etc. If you have a store bought wood chip type soil of a peet moss type you need to get the plant in good soil first and foremost.

      True, you can graft onto them if you like. I like to let them grow a while and see how the tolerate the heat and cold where I’m at. I then evaluate them for what I’m going to do next. Either graft or try to grow it out for years.
