- Xenoblade Chronicles is my favorite video game of all time. Even 8 years later, it has remained my favorite. In anticipation of the Definitive Version coming out in just a few days from this video's upload, I wanted to make a video I've planned years ago, and I'm grateful to present that to you here.
Most of the footage in this video comes from Chugga's channel since he goes so in depth and remember about as much about that LP as I do the game so it feels right to leave it here in case you want to experience those memories again like I have in editing this video:

Melia Got only negatives, sure; Juju might be a -Infinity, but that’s balanced out by the existence of the Lord of Time and Reynbows himself.

People tend to misunderstand Shulk’s motives here; It’s not entirely just for “Ending the Fighting” in fact that’s got barely anything to do with it. As Shulk himself states; He wants to ‘Understand’ _why_ everything’s happening to begin with; an ideology that Dunban himself imparted onto Shulk at the beginning of the game (post Fiora getting yeeted out of the cast). A lot of people don’t tend to catch onto it; But Heropon Dundun has a fatal character flaw _in_ his determination, which is paralleled by Metal Face. Both of them want to continue being the hero; both of them still want the power. Dunban wanted that power to protect the people around him though, and Metal Face wanted it to protect himself. Nonetheless; Metal Face still represents an aspect of Dunban that he has no choice to accept is a possibility about himself now; that they have the same motive. Dunban trying to kill Metal Face is more a matter of Dunban’s own denial of his flaws than an acceptance; as thematically highlighted by the fact he’s not trying to “Understand” Metal Face anymore. Dunban himself said that all he’s ever trying to do is Understand; but now that he’s confronted with his own personal evil; all he wants is to deny it.
This is also why Metal Face dies immediately afterwards; as once each of the main cast accepts their weaknesses, the characters who symbolized the weaknesses are no longer needed; and can now properly rest in peace.

My exact thought process during my first play through.
The interface (and the JRPG trope) spoiled it for me as a first-time Definitive Edition player. Why is her appearance override list so much shorter than everyone else? Well, she's clearly a tutorial character. But how do they remove her from the game while giving Shulk and Reyn a stake in the game plot? Well... burn down the hometown and kill his gal pal.

@@michaelmoran9020 I'd have assumed it was to *prevent* spoilers, actually. Full skill tree for a character that the game wants you to assume won't die.
Fiora’s talent arts are good. I used two out of the four talent arts whenever I use her. I never used the shield drones and rarely used cannon drones. I use sword and gun drones which are my favourites.
Can we talk about how god damn genius that reyn's GAMEPLAY reflects his growth as a character? At the beginning of the game, his whole style is spam arts. He wants to grab the aggro, he wants to build up his talent gauge. He wants to go in headfirst to protect the others.
Yet as the game goes on, face tank reyn isn't his only playstyle. He gets more combo mechanics, especially magnum charge and dive sobat which promote smarter thinking during combat. Reyn becomes one of the strongest physical attackers as his character shifts to him becoming more individual
Has anyone played the time attack mode in DE? The first restricted quest you can take has you play as Reyn and the Archsage literally asks, “Reyn what time is it?”. I was dying

You failed to note that Sharla gains up to 50% more damage as the rifle heats up.
Healing works the other way round. At 0 heat, her arts heal 20% more (120% compared to listed number) and 20% less at maximum heat (80% compared to normal). This only really matters when you control Sharla and still does not make her great in most fights, but it's very important to keep track off this when playing as her.
It also makes her more fun to play imo.

@@Laurmachi I always go for the support/healer role in MMOs, so I actually really enjoyed playing as Sharla. If you have the attack mind-set in fighting against enemies in games like this, then yeah, Sharla's a drag, but if you're the type who enjoys buffing up your squad-mates and maintaining crowd control, then the hefty list of healing and buff arts as well as the sleep art that she starts with actually make her a pretty fun party member to play as. I play a lot of strategy games so I get more satisfaction seeing the AI do all the fighting anyway.
And AI Sharla starts off ANY combat with Healing Bullet.
Watched this vid, expecting/hoping for Melia to be #1. Was not dissapointed. Melia imo is low-key the tritagonist of the XC1 party.

I honestly can't even rank these characters because I love them so much. When ever I play this game, I mix up my party multiple times for quests and the like.
The reveal of Future Connected sure brought out a bunch of Melia love
Speaking as someone who just finished the game for the first time, as well as FC, I originally was taken aback by there being a random high fantasy princess in love with the protagonist shoved in the middle of the epic war refugee story... but then i came to the same conclusion as you - it's really impressive she goes through so much shit and is fine at the end.
In FC as well. She doesn't let it get her down. She has one down moment in FC where she thought she failed to save Teelan's documents, and quickly recovers.
I have a similar respect for Fiora because despite dying and being turned into what she believed was a walking corpse, she still used all of her strength to fight for the future.
I love that the Chuggaaconroy Hiker Dance will never get old
Sharla’s last and Melia’s first, as it should be. I will mention that Summon Aqua is weak and I don’t think it’s worth it. Riki can heal much better than her and most fights are better when powered through quickly anyways.
Summon Ice and Summon Earth are REALLY good. Stacking them grants significant party damage reduction. But Melia’s TRUE strength lies in her DOT damage (Poison/Chill/Burn) which can absolutely melt through enemies while not drawing aggro.
Unleash a buffed Poison with a x4/x5 Chain Multiplier and pay close attention to the damage tick. Summon Bolt in comparison has nothing on that and actually increases aggro on Melia when you spam it (still great for buffing and the occasional shots though).
This is why I say in most cases, Riki’s Say Sorry! is not worth it. Riki’s and Melia’s DOTs just do so much in comparison when you look at the total damage, especially with chain attack multipliers.
Melia’s best weapon gems from what I remember are Poison Plus, Chill Plus, and Back Attack Plus (yes that gem works with every attack from every character).
Poison does the same damage as whatever the discharge does 15 times over 30 seconds. So if the discharge does 25k in the chain it will do that same damage 15 more times without drawing any more aggro. Ice is good as well due to it doing 60% of the discharge 5 times and its an aoe discharge.
Though for tougher fights just having them summoned gives 15% ether and physical defense.
Riki's Say Sorry is worth it against any non unique monster and great for finishing off Unique Monsters. As the strongest art in the game, it really speed up combat. DOTs do more damage, but this does mean battles take about 5 to 15 seconds longer.

Also, you forgot to mention how Melia is the best at neutralizing the chain attack color repeatedly (assuming the chain attack lasts for 3 revolutions or more).

I love “plot twist #3” and everything that happens after it, that’s my favorite part of the game.

Why are Nopon of all creatures so damn powerful? Seriously Riki is a jack of all trades who can do mega damage on status effected enemies, heal, and good against anything Ether related, and Tora created Poppi who has the potential to be the strongest Blade in XB2.
And then we have Tatsu.......oh Tatsu....you could've been great.
Tatsu has both the shape and usefulness of a potato.

I wonder why the developers made Tatsu a useless guess character? Why not just make him an npc quest giver or some guy working in the city instead of him following Lin around?

Riki’s theme is one of my phone’s tune and Mechanical Rhythm is another, that’s how much I love this game (for 9 years now). The other ones are from my preferred anime of all time that aired in 1986. Will this game stay my GOAT till I die?
Also, I 100% completed the game in 2011, way before Chuggaconroy made any LP, that means I had all the Monado Arts, I don’t play RPG by rushing them like most people, that’s why I never finish them under 100 hours. It took me 350 hours of pure joy to 100% complete Xenoblade on my first playthrough, and I didn’t want it to finish. I guess people that didn’t get the Monado Arts also missed lots of the scenarized side quests that tell you a lot about the world, and they never completed any maps. Same for personality traits, I guess most people didn’t get all 5 for every character.
The problem with that is that these traits change a lot the combat dynamic between them, which can completely change the rank of characters or groups in battle. I loved destroying everyone, 100+ Uniques included, with Shulk, Dunban and Seven, which is a group with an amazing synergy when you have all the personality traits and relations.
You can't 100% complete Xenoblade on the first playthrough because of the H2H (even just doing a blind playthrough 100% is hard because you can be locked out of certain quests), so...

Thought about getting Xenoblade for a little while, Found this video. It's nice to hear everything in such detail but still feel like I can go in without any real information... Also +10 Resect points for the Defect Slay the Spire reference.

This game is so beautiful. Ive teared up finishing certain questlines like earnest's fibs. What really gets me is the game has not just enjoyable characters but likeable npcs that feel emotionally real. And sometimes quests are just like, help me get on good term with my grandchild by making him a toy, or lets make a childrens book to cheer up a kid. Honestly I just love everything about this game. The only section that I dont like in the game is mechonis core. On my 2 playthroughs I always get demotivated to play at that point. Maybe its because the place looks so bleak and depressing.
I forgot the other monado arts even tho i watched chugga (also sad how mellia suffers even more in the remake extra content)
I completely forgot they played volleyball with Riki
Dunban is Auron. Only has one working arm, is a mentor and was a hero during the previous crisis.

Well Shulk and Melia in Future Connected is the lifelong dream then.
Everyone: I like characters with deep stories or went thru a lot like fiora and melia. Me: Ya know reyn is kind of funny. Hot take-Reyn is my favorite character in the game. Shulk and fiora are in my top 3 tho, they were my party when I got all of them. I played Shulk mostly but reyn might have been the best written in my opinion.
I got that Slay the spire reference! It might even be inspired by Melias combat style :D.
Those descriptions from the character trailer kinda suck, so I changed 'em:

You know, your passion for this game really shines through in your commentary. While I don't have as long of a history with the Xeno series as you do considering I only got into it when X came around, I too can say that this game in particular is one of my top three favourite games of all time.
I really appreciate the time and effort that you put into making this video and I'm looking forwards to whatever content you go on to make from here.
As a side, a funny story about something that happened during my first play through of the game regarding the two optional monad arts. While I still never knew that Monado eater even existed until recently I just accidentally happened across Armour. It just, showed up in my hotbed one day and I could not for the life of me figure out where I'd found it. Still one of the best monad arts in my opinion, that damage mitigation was a godsend for the final leg of the game when I was underleveld because of all the side quests I'd ignored.
I literally laughed out loud at the Slay the Spire reference. Melia is all I could think of when I first started using The Defect

I saw fiora and sucked my breath in, because i saw his ign d.f. edition review and saw him e=rant about that specifically. then I saw i=she was level 10.
Sharla has the unfortunate fate of being a good character in a game full of outstanding characters.
Dunban absolutely does not take a backseat after Fiora joins where the hell did you get hat idea? He leads the group after Shulk goes into a coma, and he has to deal with yet another friend backstabbing him for pretty much the rest of the game as Dickson's the second to last boss fight.

How could someone hate Zanza, he is the coolest character in the entire game. And yes, that is not sarcasm, I really like this guy XD
i mean....kinda. He's kinda like Mumkhar in that you love to hate him, the difference being that Mumkhar is just purely evil, while Zanza used to be a human with a god-complex *cough* Light *cough* who became, well, an actual god with god-levels of narcissism and disregard for life. Feel free to like him (since he's not a real fricking person) but, he kinda turned the majority of the high entia population into mindless pawns...including little high entia children.
Zanza is easily the biggest douchebag in video game villain history. Used the main character's body as a host and did genocide to the High Entia people.
He has the same energy as a middle-aged Karen who complains to a McDonald's two months after receiving her fries because they are "stale and cold" and then proceeds to be racist towards the manager of the establishment for not giving her free food.
I really should have expected the spoiler. Came here looking for help forming my party.. found out what happened to Gadot. staying off TH-cam now till I finish it

Sharla's Heat Sink is a bit weird if you think about it. If it was to prevent the spamming of healing abilities, why not just give healing abilities longer cooldowns? No reason to lock her out of her limited offense options just because she's really good at healing for even a short time when the name of the game tends to be kill it fast.

Summon Earth is broken though.
But poor Sharla, she gets so little recognition. While I feel other members get to shine better on the later part and post game, Sharla is basically a safe ground to keep everyone alive. She has a shitton of heals, gives debuff immunity, has a portable Monado Shield, can extend aura durations, so basically, it's very hard to die when she's in the team. I never use her damaging arts because I think they aren't as useful as her healing kit.
And as much as I like putting Riki as a support, I need to switch to Sharla whenever shit hits the fan, it's so much easier to use her, and her AI is pretty great.
Using summon Aqua, one of the worst arts in the entire game, over summon Earth and summon Ice, two of the best, hurts me inside. Saying bolt is her highest damage when ice and earth massively out-DPS it (Ice having the highest single art DPS in the game if you just look at cooldowns and not how often you can chain attack with them, Earth being the strongest art in the game with almost as good DPS), kinda shows he's never looked at the others closely.
@@celestialspark5697 I used to have Aqua on my set because I didn't really cared about the other characters' sets, meaning it was too easy to get aggro on Melia for most of the fights. The HP regen effect + the HP absorb is not half bad in a more defensive build on her, but yeah, if you know how to abuse the dot damage in this game nothing comes close to Melia's dps.
But the game never really explains how it scales, and since you get the lvl 10 bolt book very easily it's no wonder how it may seem that it's her strongest art. And even without using it as the main damage, it still is very useful to have 2 bolts to increase Ether before discharging the 3rd elemental.
I swear, Future Connected was made for two reasons: to actually use the Bionis' Shoulder locale, and to give Melia at least a shred of a silver lining.
All people like Rem from Re:Zero because she got ignored by the protagonist and suffered a lot...

For me, Dunban, Mechon Fiora, and Ryne are my favorite to play as while Riki and Sharla are good for cpu. Also, shulk is only good for fighting mechon or just playing for fun.
I love melia too and I respect her strength but I think she needs a good ugly-cry

Great Vid Omni! Gotta say I do agree with most of this list-paticularily the part about Dunban. Poor fool just didn't have a fully satisfying character arc to me.
That being said-I hope you play Xenoblade DE on the channel as an LP perhaps? Id love to see you go through it with commentary-and as you said you will have a lot of time, and maybe it'll help with burnout-being a change of pace, and being unscripted content?

I think putting the word 'spoilers' on the title is really important as we inevitably might spoil the game for newcomers.
