Having used Artisan for years for just this, this looks like an amazing improvement. It will save a lot of time with basically hit and miss sculpting attempts of adjusting topographic data--when the real result (with bulldozers) that is desired is a smooth even grade. Before the "flatten" tool was the only thing that worked anything like this. Locking boundary and vertical displacement has been a huge issue in the past (sometimes possible with effort).

Thanks for the video Justin. This is the type of tools that should come with terrain modulation in SketchUp, and not to have to pay extra for plugins. It seems great to work with, but SketchUp should already include it in the price of subscription and not user has to pay more 100dollars per year.

Mindsight should also add the ability to lock a grade to a specific (typed or set) height which would be useful for working off of a real site survey since it would be less arbitrary and more accurate to the survey itself.

    • @mind.sight.studios

You can lock the grade to the height of a point in your model by pressing and releasing CTRL

@@mind.sight.studios I get that you can do it manually by extra steps but it would be more convenient to type it or specify it somewhere. Dealing with points in a model is ...ambiguous... to say the least especially if something like the actual height is important for something like a site survey. Someone here would have to make a pre-grid of all the heights to lock onto whatever height when needed in that model which makes it extra work and less reliable.

I'll def pop for the upgrade.
Speaking of upgrades. Do you think Sketch has improved enough since 2020 to be worthwhile going to subscription? I have a lifetime single user license as I don't really like the subscription model.

Same as you, Got sketchup 2020 and happy i did. Have not seen any update that made me wanna take a upgrade to subscription

imo no... unless you can use the cloud portions such as sending a model to a client and allowing them use view on an ipad (or phone but wouldnt recommend) - then maybe yes. That part is certainly useful and beneficial..... But know that the ipad still cannot tolerate large complex models as it will crash or simply not open the model at all. I've seen model as low as 70-80Mb not open on the ipad version at all but for smaller things - it's great to send to a client and have them navigate from their own ipads and go from scene to scene etc. My current 23' version of SKP seems more crashprown and unreliable then the last couple of years. I'm not happy about it.

@@johnjlopez Mate. My ipad is still in the original box. I would never so anything with a complex skippy on an ipad.
On the bright side, my new UPS doesn't sound the alarms when rendering now. I misjudged the voltage that my 24gb card would draw so I now use it only for my router and modem.
As for going into the subscription model, I'm waiting for someone to compel me to do so. The only cock up I get is I can no longer access the 3d warehouse.
That last point I think needs to be looked at buy a lawyer as that is denial of access.

And since we triangulated the terrain, it would be good if you started from scratch.

Why sketcup not just make an easy tool for creating landscape brush like Lumion or photoshop? they make thing too difficult
