A very Happy World Goth Day to you dear professor. Tomorrow I shall put on some black finery and celebrate the day. I'm a touch older than you. I turned 53 this year. For me it seems as if the older I get the more into the subculture I get. For some it may be a phase. But for us true Goths, it's home.
Happy world goth day!! And yes absolutely, the older we get the deeper we fall into the scene!! I will add, now in our 50s we have two essentials ~ more know how and money to do the stuff we wanted at 20. $300 boots...sure why not!!

I want to add to the latino list Puerto Rico. It has become THE hot spot in the caribbean and a big influence in latino goth in the past three years. We have created the Tripodarks or Tropigoth terms because we often have to adapt the fashion to the tropical weather.

Oh definitely! I love seeing my cousins in PR and seeing how they've adapted goth to the weather. When I go I'm over heated and they're next to me very goth and very unbothered LOL

Awesome! I love the idea of "coming home." That is what I feel myself. I'll tell you a (hopefully) amusing anecdote. When i was at Music College, my father used to pick me up in town outside a funeral parlour. We used to joke all the time that i was "reviewing this season's caskets." I'm glad to be home.

@gothicallyyoursprofessorm.7222 Well, I'm currently 49 myself, so there must be something about that age. Actually, a "7th son of a 7th son," which is mystic folklore, if multiplied, produces 49! It's destiny.

Your jeans are fine. Your shirts are fine. Make up like the dead, make up like your fave star, no make up just as fine. My first dance, I wasn't wearing anything. You can (and probably will) dance by yourself, but some people will dance right into your 'space'. Maybe it means something, maybe it's nothing. Have a great time!

Lots of good advice, from the depth of an Elder Goth's experience! I tip my hat to the Professor of Corp Goth style!
Goth style is too expensive... All fashion is too expensive if you go crazy about it and only satisfy your lust for it through sheer shopping.
Goth youth in the 90ies, through lots of DIY and recycling/trading/adapting/inventing, got the subculture started and dressed with the little money they had - usually just their pocket money. Don't be carried away by today's fashion impulse, there are hundred ways to dress goth!
A week ago I got rid of a too short black jacket I had. I had it for months in my room thinking about putting it for sale online. Too lazy to take pictures and write a good description of it. Too much time to gain a few Euros. Once that I was invited to a Goth Club in my town by a friend of mine I gave it to her. I was happy to see she was happy about the gift. She'll probably turn it into a female Goth jacket, she's the kind of woman to do it.

Yes, right. Carpe Diem, Seize the Day, I'll forever be grateful to Professor John Keating for delivering this life-changing lesson when I was young. Maybe too young, because it took me many, many years before I determined myself to live this lesson, instead of just uttering it through my lips.
Everything gets harder as you age. Being Goth is not different. It's not that if you were not Goth your life as en elderly person would be easier to you. As a man who became Goth late in my life, I started again dancing after ten years I last did. I found out I love dancing, more now than when I was young. Being Goth added this pleasure to my life in my 50ies. I do feel my bones and articulations grow old, dancing makes my growing old more evident and painful, emotionally at least. But stopping being Goth, stopping dancing would make me a lot more miserable. Goth is helping me living my elderly years with a broader smile. The older I'll get, I know the less I'll be dancing. But I will still be Goth. The day I'll drop dead people will only have to pull me up and drop me into a coffin, I will be ready for it anytime. Maybe they could do me a little make up? 🧛
I'm very grateful to you, Professor M., for delivering us today this fine lesson of Goth life. Not just lifestyle, there's much more than that.
From your words one can gleam the full satisfaction of living a life that entices, that fulfils, that opens your mind to an inner, hidden world that you eventually find out is your true home. The place and atmosphere where you feel you can sit down and rest realizing everything is ok around you: the dim light, the music or the silence, the spiders, the people or the solitude, the coldness, the drop of water that has kept still on the window the last five minutes, the life that flows and ... goes away.

ManweruEmanuilov~ I have a very good Goth brother from France! France has quite a few Goths and great shows. I was there in 2002. France ranked very high, also Austria I should of mention. The Vienna festivals.

Non-goths, especially family members, just wish it was a phase, even when they cannot explain what's wrong with Goth.
They just cannot handle what they cannot understand, it blows their mind that there are people who enjoy being different from them, from everybody else.
