Nice video! If anyone wonder, the ants are Diacamma and the termites Macrotermes. As you note the potent sting of formers is very dangerous for the termites, but at the same time the slicing jasws of the latters can make short work of these ants' legs, anntennae and bodies, despite Diacamma actually having sturdier and heavier exoskeleton compared to many other ants.
Also note that Macrotermes soldiers' defence is not purely mechanical (mandibles), but they utilyze complementary
chemical weapons themselves (though often rather slow acting compared to a Diacamma ant's venom), secerning a wide array of labral and/or frontal gland secretions from their head. The precise composition of such secretions can vary widely among species , but usually these fluids serve as wond active poisons and also contain compunds that impede the healing of wounds (among others still). This make the final mortality rate of ants bite and wounded by Macrotermes noticeably higher than similar wounds without the application of these defensive fluids.
Also for a farier confrontation, don't put the animals on a smooth surface as termites (unlike most -but not all- ants) don't have any kind of adhesive pads on their feet and can't grip smooth surfaces (this is beacuse in nature few ,if any, of such surfaces would be actually encountered by the termites, and those who are are simply build over), but they do need a good grip to engage in their effective "lunge-bite-return" attack patter. Cover the bottom of your container with something like filter paper, untreated paper towels, forest soils or a thin slab of actual wood (all just a bit humidifed), and the termites (plus any species without adhesive pads) will have the grip required to fight more properly. Bye.

@@Pardonmyinsolence Thanks. That explains a lot. To me, the termites won, because they were defending their colony, in their minds, and the ants all were dismembered, severely, but, as you indicated, in a narrow tunnel, the termites, with the heavily armored head, would have a field day.

See THIS is what I want to see, soldier termites against major ants and in equal numbers. The main reason termites always lose is because of the numbers of soldiers, in ant colonies every ant can fight where as in termite colonies only the soldiers can fight and they are a minority, so everyone thinks they can’t box, but they can
On top of that, the termites are playing defense and trying to protect their eggs/larvae. They have to stop every or at least most ants in order to win. The ants just have to break through.
They can’t box.. they can’t ball up their fist because they don’t have any hands.
I don't know... It looks like these ants can take out the termites 1:1. Hell, the one ant had half a body and it was still fighting... and won! I think the ants usually win because they're one of the most hardcore fucking creatures in existence.
Never having been in the situation there's no way to know for certain, but I'm pretty damn sure if I had half of my abdomen bitten off, it'd be game over. No need to tap out, I'd be in shock for a short time then dead as Caesar's balls.

The termite will most likely win if it was that type of battle. [depending on the species of course] Ant's always have unfair advantages agesnt termites when they battle in wars. They always use stinger's, size, armor and numbers to overwhelm them and they always win when they have these types of advantages. It's fricking unfair and rarely any termite species have stinger's, high in numbers or armor. (Alot of termite species have giant soldiers so size doesn't really matter, but there are barely any of them in the colony.) I bet if the termites had these types of advantages commonly they would always win.
