- Lisbon, Portugal, is a very charming city, full of history and viewpoints. In this video, you'll see some of the best things to do in town.
On our way to "Castelo de São Jorge" (Saint George or Sao Jorge Castle), we try an award-winning custard tart at Pastelaria de Santo Antonio. So delicious! 😋 The castle is also known as Lisbon castle. As it's located at the highest point of the hill, we then start walking downhill and stopping at amazing viewpoints.
At Miradouro da Graça (Graça viewpoint) we also see Graça church and the convent. 10 min away, and with a totally different view, the Miradouros of Santa Luzia and das Portas do Sol (Santa Luzia viewpoint and Portas do Sol viewpoint).
Then we arrive at the most charming part of Alfama, the oldest and most traditional neighborhood in Lisbon, Portugal. After getting lost in the tiny streets, we try ginjinha (or ginja), a locally produced cherry liquor. Finally, and already downhill, Saint Anthony church. Inside the church, you can see the room where Saint Anthony was born in 1195.

I recently discovered that I have over 25% Portuguese ancestry, even after 4-5 generations since my family migrated from Europe. Your series about Portugal have given me an itch to come over for a few weeks. I'm immensely grateful. I wish I had some Portuguese friends, that would be incredible.

La Graça monastery was open to the public long time ago. At 7:47, you said that it was opened only 3 years ago, but I visited inside the monastery back in 1997. Love your video series of Lisboa and Portugal. Gracias
Oh wow! Really? Our guide told us the convent had never been open to the public before (the church was open, but not the convent), and when I got back home I googled it and indeed found many articles talking about when it was first open to the public, after a 17-year long process. There are many articles in the Portuguese media like this one www.dn.pt/sociedade/segredos-do-convento-da-graca-revelam-se-a-cidade-8605008.html, explaining the opening that first happened in 2017. I guess you were very lucky to see it even before many Portuguese people 😉. All the best!

The castle's first forts date from the 1st century BC, having been rebuilt several times by various peoples and given different names. The current name derives from the castle's devotion to São Jorge, patron saint of knights and crusades, made by order of King João I in the 14th century.

I know you've broken your videos in several vlogs, but how long was your actual trip? Im trying to take in all your suggestions so I could pack all your sites in just 3 short days.
Hello Jacqui. 3 days would be rushing it in my opinion. We spent 6 days. Remember, we don't do trips like a vacationer as we are on the go, filming and then back to the hotel to capture the images and review. If all you can do is 3 days then maybe I suggest skip Sintra as there is so much to do in Lisbon. Note, we also did not go into museums and we would much prefer to try more restaurants in the evening if not for work and cafes in the morning.
Even at 3 days, you will love the city. Summer weather is perfect and the city will be buzzing with all the tourists. Enjoy!!!

This is such a great and informative video! Your energy radiates throughout 💛🌼. Planning a trip to Lisbon. Do you have an estimate where you were walking in Alfama and spotted coco selling the ginja? Did she take cash only ?And what time did you guys get to the castle before the crowd? Thank you !
I wish I could remember...but we took several turns on the narrow streets. I think if you ask people were very friendly and help. Cash only. We arrived at opening hour which was 9am summer time. Check as it varies thru out the year.

Not accurate...phonecians, celts, Romans, visigoths, arabs...and once the most important city in Europe, that makes Lisbon the oldest capital city after Athens...
