    Great video! As it happens I've just completed the Heavy Brigade myself (Christmas gift from my lovely wife); I now have all the British and Russians to do Balaklava while another club member is doing the French army. I had to convert Austrian Grenzers for British line and rifles, Russian infantry from Tumbling Dice as well as converted Prussian Landwehr from Hat and Strelets. Great work on those figures, we'll have to compare notes!

      unfortunately I had to sell my Crimean collection. I did do some infantry before I sold them..using strelets rifles.

    You're units and painting is really good, very impressive. I am a big fan of 1/72 (20mm) plastics. I find them inexpensive, easy to paint and with a vast range of choice.
    Plastics are so easy to convert that there is very little need to get expensive metals. You definitely get a lot more for your money. Keep up the good work.

      Many thanks. I agree plastics are very easy to convert. Most of my standard bearers were originally carrying muskets. Quick trim and add a flag pole 😀

    Hi Scotty, I use brush-on gesso to prime my 1/72 figures. It provides a great painting surface and is very sturdy, no peeling or chipping so far with over a thousand figures painted! For me historical wargaming is all about the grand spectacle of hundreds of figures on each side and that's why I love 1/72s, nice and realistic and it's easy and cheap to create a sense of mass.

      thanks I will look into brush-on gesso. I agree 1/72 is a cheap but great looking scale

    sorry to hear that you had to sell stuff, but glad that you held on to the WSS. I think you comments on 1/72 are spot on..most of us started with Airfix and moved on like you say. People who do 1/72 seem to be a distinct part of hobby - rare to see featured in magazines etc - i think Miniature Wargames sometimes had them on. I think the 902 is the code. Nice to see the Jimmy (my dad was R.Sigs). Nice work on the models!

      Many thanks. Yes I think the scale was definitely a beginner for us all. Nice to hear of a fellow scaleyback in your family 😀

      @@scotty7906 cheers..was quite a while ago now. I do like the Heavy Cavalry in helmets esp. I do think that of all the 1/72 plastics, the style of Strelets is nice..they are i think slightly caricatured like a lot of metals are as true scale figure often looked a bit too slight!

      I do like the more chunky strelets figures and lots of character

    For lances and flag Poles use plastic broom bristles. They are strong and straight but will not snap or pop off as they will bend...

    Really pleased to see you putting out a video and glad that you have found a solution to moving things forwards. Your forces so far are splendid, did you use any special preparation on the figures before painting?

    • @scotty7906
      @scotty7906  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks. I am glad to be painting again. I give the figures a good scrubbing with water/washing up liquid. I use an undercoat mix of vallejo black/pva glue and water as base coat.

    I looked into using 1/72 when I decided to get back into war gaming and some of the figures (especially the zvezda ones) were really nice but my eyesight wasn't really up to it (except very simple WW2 color schemes) but very economical
    - recommend the zvezda Naps (French vs Russian) if you ever do that period

    I have a longtime interest in the Crimean War as well but I have never games it before but Putin’s BS game playing in Ukraine has me thinking about gaming the Crimean war lately as well. Is that what got you going now too? Lovely figures!
