This was Counting Crows at their absolute peak. Their first four albums were incredible, and then in 2007 they played their most iconic album all the way through and it was honestly their best performance, and that’s saying a lot!
"She walks along the edge where the ocean meets the land like she's walking on a wire in a circus." One of the greatest lyrical lines of all time, in my opinion.

As part of one of the “big bands” that came up alongside the Crows, I can tell you they were and are one of the greats. They shouldn’t have been so good so quickly, but they came to take names and kick asses. I’ve heard them from front stage, back, and side so many times, and they still move me every time. I had some need for this tonight, and look what I find. Hey Adam, you’ll never see this, but if you’d like, I’ll sing my nervous breakdown at you and you can therapize😉 and bartend anytime. Or you can just f*ckin’ sing.❤- Chris
Hey, friends. Thanks for the interest! I was in a band called The Beaten Poets (often billed as Christopher Webb and….) that did a lot of gigging around the San Francisco scene in the early to mid 90’s. If you’ve ever heard of that band, you’re a serious music nerd. That’s why “big bands” was in quotes, along with the fact that we were merely two guitarists and a drummer. We chose correctly to not go with major labels (2 of us had parents in the music industry) and went with the indie label Flower Project. We released 2 records (CD’s): “Long Gone Season” in 1997 and “Spilling” in 2004 that are incredibly hard to find (check eBay or Amazon). We don’t have much of an internet footprint because of timing, personal issues, and generally not giving a shit. We lost my good friend and fellow guitarist CJ Watson a few years back, and I miss him every day. I recently obtained the full rights to the records during Flower Project’s demise, and am planning to reissue them on vinyl and uploading them to streaming platforms. We were fortunate enough to play around the Bay Area and tour with our friends in Counting Crows as they took off like a rocket ship. Those were amazing times, and looking back upon them, I wouldn’t trade them for anything in the world.🙂♥️
@@folkslinger44 Awesome! I am glad you have those memories. I can tell they're very meaningful to you. Im sorry to hear about your good friend. I hope you have a good one.
Adam performs how I always imagined the characters in his songs to be speaking.. spoken word mental illness... I think its a great performance. He drew the crowd into the songs and characters world in the first 9 minutes and then they can do whatever they want. If you don't like the performance its because you don't understand the band in the first place.
In the living room of my friend Steve Hirsch is a picture of him and Adam playing guitar in one of Adams first bands at the age of 13/14 years old. That band never made it, however Adam did and when they come to the Philadelphia area he always sees his old friend from childhood. It is history and shows how small the world can be and how people you know or grew up with can become famous in the future. Don't let your dreams or your friends dreams go if possible. Encourage the people in your life to take chances if at all possible, cause you never know what can happen!
+Karol K Very Cool Story Karol. I don't know any of them, and am just a BIG fan of the Crows music without knowing much of the back story. Adam has always struck me as a very genuine, and gentle guy who was never comfortable in his own skin, or the fame that he achieved in it. He's quietly one of the most amazing song writers of this generation in my humble opinion
Adam Duritz is a national treasure, I always tell my friends my age (29 now ) how great and underrated the counting crows are and they just disregard it. I think one day they’ll revisit these songs and realize exactly what they missed.
I saw these guys once at a House of Blues almost 20 years ago. It was amazing, especially in that intimate (~2,000 peeps) setting. You're right - these guys are legit, and they definitely don't get their due. They're not really like anyone else from that era, but I think they're important.
I remember during the time the album was new I would be at my grandparents house. I was in 9th grade. I still had hope of being something. Now, years and many mistakes later, I regret time wasted and long for the memories I spent with my grandparents. And no I'm not depressed
Damn Adam pours his heart and soul out more than any other performer I think I've ever seen.. damn this album brings back some memories as I'm sure it does for us all listening to this- great show and performance.
I've seen it many times also. I have a friend that while he didn't dislike them, he wasn't a big fan either. I remember one night he let me play Round Here as I got this DVD. He was spellbound and it went from one song to playing the whole DVD. I've never seen any other male artist emote their songs like Adam does. He's the definition of music ARTIST.
@@someoneout-there2165 he definitely is. I've seen them twice now and they are so good live. There are a few other live shows on TH-cam that i watch and they are equally as good as this performance.
This has to be my all time favourite album. My two daughters understand me! If we went on a road trip to grandparents when they were young, it was the first music requested. They would sit in the back and rock!
So many tears. This has been one of my favorite bands and albums since it was first released. How am I finding this in 2022!? Bless you for posting this, it’s exactly what I needed right now. Love and light in our perfect blue buildings
Rain King/Thunder Road is an absolutely brilliant tour de force. I've listened to it over and over because it is so wonderful. Best music ever from anyone. Adam and the rest of this band are geniuses of rock and roll.
August and Everything After and Satellites just hit every cord for me in the 90's. Still two of my very favorite albums of all time. Looking forward to seeing them again...one of these days...
Put simply, this has got to be one of the best live performances ever recorded. Everything about the musicianship, energy of the band and songs are outstanding. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched this show (wish I could have been there) and there’s plenty life in it to watch again and again and again.........,
Adam could completely turn a song upside down and still make you feel drawn to him and the band. These guys are unreal. Just the chemistry alone is amazing...almost on an E Street Band level...almost :-)
Counting Crows have been one of my favorite bands since I heard A Long December as a young'un... Back when Walmart still played music videos on the TVs in electronics. I'm ashamed to say I've never really thought to listen to any live recordings they've made. Adam... Round Here... Dear lord, where did all of that come from? My jaw dropped. The most emotional performance I've ever witnessed. A brutal waterfall of intensity and mad poetry. Fucking brilliance.
The people there to see this live are so lucky. To this day, I think that August and Everything After is the best all around album I've ever heard. I know they're still currently out on tour but I wish they'd do more shows like this, playing the whole album. I think their song, Round Here, saved my life when I was younger. I've seen them a bunch of times in the past but it wasn't until the last time I saw them that they opened with that song. I was so wet from tears. Adam is just one of the best poets ever. Can't believe pretty much all of this album was created in 5 months. Just pure raw talent. ❤️
This concert recording is musically perfect by the crows, the sound outstanding, the video cuts excellent. The impression is, you are in the middle of the concert and on stage! Best picture quality. One of the best live performances of crows. As a fan, the absolute highlight of live acts! More is not possible! joe
NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS PERFORMANCE. Just AMAZING. I can't say anything more but to say its amazing. The level of emotion and intensity in these songs are truly beautiful! xDDD
This is music! I love this so much. I've liked Mr. Jones, Sullivan Street, and Round Here/Raining In Baltimore/Private Archipelago for ages, and have recently begun to get into Anna Begins, which really hits hard... so these live versions are amazing. I love the fact that they play differently at the live shows. It's refreshing.
I've lost count how many times I've watched this show. It just gets more and more perfect each time - Adam is a performer like no other, who takes you on a true journey. August and Everything After is hands down my favourite album of all time. The father of my girlfriend as a teenager introduced me to the album and almost 20 years later, still nothing has truly come close to it on a raw emotional level. Perfection.
Counting Crows = always a Master Class on musicianship and performing. I've seen them 16 times in concert and they NEVER disappoint. Always a unique show, full of energy, full of emotion performance. You FEEL their music and lyrics.
The Counting Crows have been my favorite band since 1994. I saw them live last night for the first time in a long time. It was my 13 year old daughter's fist live show. They've still got it!
This show and this album are both important to me because I was at this show and the album is very important my childhood and got me through a big break up which was my first relationship and took me along time to get over this girl. So this band and all there albums really got me over it so I owe a lot to this band for helping me get through all of it
Don't you miss liner notes? Getting a new album, running home, closing the bedroom door, putting on the new music, laying on your bed and reading the lyrics. Such good times.
There are few people and performances that move me so much.... It has me thinking, quite seriously, that THIS is the kind of artist and person I wanna be. There is more naked truth in his ramblings than I know, inwardly, what to do with. This is magical...
"It's only in my head! I dunno, it just doesn't feel like it is in my head! I just wanted to come true!". What a fitting alternation. "Round Here" things sometimes seem to be so different, so horrifyingly different from what we expected life to be when our only heart desire was to stay up late. August And Everything After guides you through a melancholy time of leaving. People who leave, people you abandon, the very process of losing yourself, yes leaving life behind. And eventually it comes to that Murder of One. Where it's all about staying, but for the wrong reasons? This album is overwhelmingly profound and I thank you Adam, for your genius! Can't seem to open my eyes...
I was fortunate to share this live performance with my son. In a way I wanted him to feel something that somehow describes my life at the time, as is the case for so many of us. This is why this album is so incredibly emotional to us, yet so fucking amazing. Just fucking amazing.
I stumbled upon this video approximately 2 years ago and i watch it every day - sometimes 3 or 4 times in a day - Adam's raw, unfiltered emotion is something that you cant ignore! His talent and sexy ass looks are undeniably the best, i would have given ANYTHING to have witnessed this in person, thank you Mario for posting it and thank you counting crows for keeping it real and producing amazing music, you're my all time favorite!!! I can't even guess how many times I've watched this.... Oh, and Adam if youre still single im ready to mingle! 😘🥰💋❤️😘
I just started listening to music again...long story but I love this. I like the ad libs and commentary of what Adam was or is thinking. I take what I want and need from their songs (as well as many others) but the Counting Crows have always been my favorite. I like to compare my experiences, being 10 years his [Adam's] junior, to my fictional versions of what they really are/were for him. Immy's awesome too...kind, outgoing and very talented (I would be remiss to not state that)!
***** I am sure you assume that it is not a happy reason the "day the music died" for me...I stopped listening to music when my third, and youngest, baby boy passed away from SIDS at 5.5 months old. That was 21 months ago but I just couldn't and didn't want to listen to music. Now that I am listening again, it has been amazing! The thousands of memories associated with music from the past have flooded my mind (have written two books in one month to have a place to put all of them) and new emotions from music I have never heard before have added perspective - all of which are hopeful:-).
Samantha I am so sorry to hear about your terrible loss. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Had I known there was such a reason for you having stopped listening to music I would never have asked in the first place. I wondered if it might have been a religious thing as a girl I heard from on TH-cam had not listened to music for religious reasons and then discovered it. I can't begin to imagine the pain you have been through and can understand why such a tragedy would cause you to lose sight of any beauty in the world. I only hope that as time passes the pain will gradually fade and you will be able to dwell on the happy, though all too brief, times you had with your son. My heart really goes out to you and the others who were hurt by such a terrible loss. Much love from Nick in London.
***** Thank you so much for your kind words. I truly appreciate them. So, with the Counting Crows and Adam's angst and want in love...I get it. There are not many songs about my grief. However, there was a girl who was a guest of my father's friend at Rex's (my son's name) funeral who did write a song about the day I buried my son. I live in Austin, TX and she is a singer/songwriter but I do not remember her name. She said she saw me sitting there in my white dress, which was only a white shirt, and wrote "911 Stole my Heart". I cannot find the song anywhere but she played it for me in the weeks after while I was in a daze and it was really beautiful. I am going to find that song! Now that I am listening to music again...it seems natural. Again, thank you HumanoidOrganism.
I so love this version of Perfect Blue Buildings! 26:50 The ending of the song high lights what life can truly be like living with Major Depression Disorder. I am always moved to emotions by their music.
This time period of CC live was some of the best of their later years in my opinion. Adam hasn’t had this kind of passion on stage in years it’s seems. Such an amazing band that has stood the test of time.
On some of these tunes there are three guitars that are a exchanging leads and contributing amazing tone and feel that make these tunes just soar. Adam is simply amazing as a frontman.

he's a poet, he may be fckd up but hes welcome at my retreat any day.... his music saved me more than a few times, ... remember he is the writer :-) love and peace all
'Saved me' 😂😂😂
Seriously, watched and listened to this every day at work for about two weeks straight. OVER AND OVER and still love it. F'ing Brilliant.
I fully understand. I do the same and feel the same.
I have only heard first song
I will be listening to Round Here over and over again
me too!!!

This was Counting Crows at their absolute peak. Their first four albums were incredible, and then in 2007 they played their most iconic album all the way through and it was honestly their best performance, and that’s saying a lot!
"She walks along the edge where the ocean meets the land like she's walking on a wire in a circus."
One of the greatest lyrical lines of all time, in my opinion.
omg i just realised what that ment in my head. so cool! yes
in combination with the line before, yes... it is symbiotic
I wrote the same thing 20 years ago and I still believe it

this band never gets old to me. love his voice, the lyrics, the guitar, all the other surprising sounds. the band is so good. i remember when it first came out. the 90s just kept delivering amazing music.
now the music industry shifted into garbage, but that's a whole different story. if we ever regain our country back, i look forward to the media being completely replaced as well as the music industry. but it will take a miracle to undo everything that has been hijacked and twisted against us. sorry to get on my soapbox but its crazy times.
I'm kinda finding the CC's for the first time and i'm in need of them right now and somehow so many of the lyrics are hitting that perfect spot of pain and hope entwined
well done. you have found one of the best debut albums that 25+ years later *still* stands up as well as when it was first released.
Keep going ;)p
I hope they have rubbed the spot that was in pain! They are a salve of emotion for the past pain of life!
Hey folkslinger, which band were you in ?
I am a huge fan of the crows. I am also curious who you are!
Same here. Seen them live over 30 times👍 thanks for responding ✌️
Agreed! If a band wants to butcher their music, it's their choice.
@@mellistotheMAX If you want to hear the album version listen to the album.
+Karol K We were in chorus together in junior high so I must know Steve, just can't place him.
I remember when my walkman ate my cassette version of this album. It was a dark day.
Ryan Kudasik Ha! My Walkman had a feast on mine as well . I was able to save the cassette but lost a lot of round here .
You must love thé internet now ol feel ya
I feel your pain
I used to play it on a CD walkman. Then left the CD in a taxi. Dark days are not avoided by technology!
My first album was Films About Ghosts. Got scratched pretty bad! SADness's
I love that Adam incorporated Springsteen's 'Thunder Road' in 'Rain King'. Awesome.
Musical genius being able to weave 3 songs into one epic story. Goosebump inducing music
One of my all time fav albums ever! Reminds me of a better time in my life.
I remember during the time the album was new I would be at my grandparents house. I was in 9th grade. I still had hope of being something.
Now, years and many mistakes later, I regret time wasted and long for the memories I spent with my grandparents.
And no I'm not depressed
@@jtoumai Never too late. You can still have 30 to 40 great years of life left, think about it.
@@VicInNocal 👏🏼 Seriously. Bite life back. It works out eventually.
Not that often but sometimes concerts can be a truly amazing experience of a lifetime.. that might just be one of them
Wish I could like this a thousand times.
I cry... Every time... A beautiful soul... One of a kind. ♥️
Damn Adam pours his heart and soul out more than any other performer I think I've ever seen.. damn this album brings back some memories as I'm sure it does for us all listening to this- great show and performance.
I agree
Ive watched this like 100 times. Probably one of the best performances Ive seen by them.
Have you seen the live show at Codfish Hollow Barn in Iowa? The black and white live show?
@@MurphdogMandates I must find that thank you
Rain King/Thunder Road is an absolutely brilliant tour de force. I've listened to it over and over because it is so wonderful. Best music ever from anyone. Adam and the rest of this band are geniuses of rock and roll.
I like the way he sings it more then the original...
I love going to CC shows because Adam makes every single performance completely unique.
I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve watched this show (wish I could have been there) and there’s plenty life in it to watch again and again and again.........,
Same
The melding of Springsteen's Thunder Road during Rain King is simultaneously brilliant and AWESOME. I've never heard this; unbelievable.
It took me a few seconds to realize what he had done ... how could he mix Thunder Road in with Rain King so seamlessly
Phenomenal organic seamless integration.
In crucking fedible
One of my favorite bands of the 90s still today I love them. Can listen for hours.
Sullivan Street intro is beautiful...he explains himself out of being the bad guy poetically & justifies it with ease! Pretty great 👍
Sometimes the darkness comes over me. When this happens i listen to early counting crows. Love you xx
Adam could completely turn a song upside down and still make you feel drawn to him and the band. These guys are unreal. Just the chemistry alone is amazing...almost on an E Street Band level...almost :-)
What a rad day this just now became to stumble on this link.
Adam is brilliant, his energy and passion is insane!!!
Adam is a true artist in every sense of the word..he's a great showman.
More is not possible!
joe
Now this is a real performer, what an artist...and the music is fantastic. Miss the 90s' music.
One of best concerts that I have ever seen. It's definitely touching...
1:33 kills me every time.
adam knows pain and love and confusion like no one else
beautiful
NO WORDS TO DESCRIBE THIS PERFORMANCE. Just AMAZING. I can't say anything more but to say its amazing. The level of emotion and intensity in these songs are truly beautiful! xDDD
Kyle Matthew Lopez i agree also. this is one of my fav bands and i love all there albums.
I’m thinking of jumping
I have seen this msterpiece a few times. Adam is very talented. The level of talent they display is exponential! Adam does aa great thunder road.
This is just such a masterpiece of an album but this live performance is just truly magical.
Perfect live show. Super band
Anna Begins is masterpiece
@@VicInNocal it truly is! My favourite song on the album.
Perfection.
Will be seeing them at the 02 London Oct 2018!! Got tickets already!!!
The talk before sulivsn Street followed by the song it self is such a heart warming emotional moment and I love it
"Rain King" and "Sullivan Street"... I remember hearing them and saying, they're going to be around for awhile...
Oooh them songs hit 🤧
Don’t forget Anna Begins doe!
"Round Here" is so emotional in this concert. Love it.
This band is SOOOOO FUCKIN' UNDERRATED... Damn, Adam is a musical genius.
They were literelly one of the biggest bands in the world at one time. How are they underrated?
💪🏻🇺🇸💙✌️
I always loved them. I believe I remember.
Stunning. Great first album. Wonderful performance.
One of my top 5 albums. They kill this show. I feel like this is a second life for it, for me at least. Beautiful.
Thanks4sharing.greatest introduction to perfect blue buildings and sullivan street.
Counting Crows = always a Master Class on musicianship and performing. I've seen them 16 times in concert and they NEVER disappoint. Always a unique show, full of energy, full of emotion performance. You FEEL their music and lyrics.
I see them 4 times .. I wish I had seen them 16 times. But I got to see Round Here transformed into a 10+ minute version so I'm content.
The Counting Crows have been my favorite band since 1994. I saw them live last night for the first time in a long time. It was my 13 year old daughter's fist live show. They've still got it!
Live where?
This show and this album are both important to me because I was at this show and the album is very important my childhood and got me through a big break up which was my first relationship and took me along time to get over this girl. So this band and all there albums really got me over it so I owe a lot to this band for helping me get through all of it
arguably one of the best albums made in my life. born in 1978
Thinking about my buddy Drew who took his own life 4 years ago. The crows were very meaningful to us back then and still helping me now.
I'm sorry for your loss brother, I hope these songs can bring you some peace in his memory.
Great job on stabilizing Mr Editor
You know, i still have the cassette sleeve that i bought in 1994. i take it out ever so often and the memories come flodding back.
Don't you miss liner notes? Getting a new album, running home, closing the bedroom door, putting on the new music, laying on your bed and reading the lyrics. Such good times.
The most striking covers of songs, embedded into his own songs, by any musician ever, anywhere.
Unarguable by anyone.
Esse disco mudou minha vida....sou apaixonado demais...
❤
Adam Duritz I love you, come for Brazil please
Hard to listen to when one's coming down brilliant mind brilliant songs so heart felt. 💯
The best performance ever... STOKED.
For some reason I am very interested to know why you stopped listening to music? None of my business but just curious.
He takes a lot of vocal excursions and it mostly works. It's a heartfelt performance.
One of the best performances I have ever seen! SO much emotion!
Saw them in 2011 at the Puyallup Fair....he's Shakespeare in jeans and an old t shirt..protect this man at all costs💖
Que show!!! Counting Crows não envelhece jamais. Suas músicas, depois de 20 anos continuam soando atuais. Não passo nenhum mes de dezembro sem escutar A Long December, desde 1996
Minha época de escola .... 1995.
I’m rather uncomfortable at just how much joy this brings me. When are you coming home, sweet angel? indeed.
Probably my most watched concert DVD ever.
Amooo
Mine too, probably forever........
Brings high school back like it was just yesterday. Driving around after just getting my license and listening to this cassette in the car. One of the great albums of the 90s.
Beautiful Blue Buildings as grand as a song can be.
