  • Due to the rising popularity of plastidip, we decided to try it out on some chrome trim on our 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Torquelist project truck.

    We were pleased with the end result. The dip ended up looking more like primer, but the store we bought the plastidip only had gunmetal and black. Hoping to matte black the entire truck....stay tuned for that.

    Looks like primer, when you peel it off the paint why isn’t it coming off the emblem?

    Should made a heavier coat. Would have came off way easier.

      That is true. Since that was our first go the coats were a bit light. Everything else we have done since, we have made heavier coats.

    Rubbing with a damp microfiber rag on the overspray works good too

    will that hold up well for the pressure clean wash the car?

      @torquelistmedia  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      swissbianco As long as you don't hold the stream from the pressure washer directly on it, especially on an edge, you will be fine. We pressure wash cars with plastidip all the time, no issues.

      ok, thanks!

      swissbianco actually to correct him, if you do it properly as in lay enough coats of plastidip down it won't peel as easy as you think with the water. But will peel easily when you want to peel it off. It's actually a great product. I'd suggest checking out "dippers anonymous" on fb.

      You do know plasti dip is not paint and prep for it is not like painting prep.

    How long did you let it dry for before you peeled off the excess? How did you get in the small parts of the 4x4? Just tried doing mine and it peeled off of the numbers and letters.

    Chrome is way overrated and appealing only to "old-timers"

      if 24 years of age is "old timers" then sign me up cause I love chrome and my ram is gonna have chrome not that ugly shot color that covers the emblems, I think that just lame.

      Thanks astonmartinridin , we were pretty happy with how it turned out. The truck was recently sold however. I think the new owner thought the plastidip pieces were factory!

    You ruined some perfectly nice chrome emblems

      Being our first time using plastidip we wanted to start on something small. As you can see from the video, it is completely removable. No worries there.

      How is it "ruined" when it peels off, Brian?

    • @BrianMacKay
      @BrianMacKay 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I should have said ruined the look, I prefer chrome.

      I'm not a fan of chrome so much. I'd almost rather prefer previously polished oxidized aluminum than chrome something about the vintage look. Sometimes I think chrome on newer vehicles tends to look almost cheesy cause it's not an old steel fender. I prefer chrome on older vehicles where the bumper was more like a construction been than a flashy piece of easy smash in case of an accident. Even the emblems on old vehicles could be made into a makeshift knife. Now everything is cheesy thin if not plastic anyways. But that's just me... I think the plastidip look makes it look more modern.

    • @MrSkypony

      Yep I'm a ford driver now. I use to buy nothing but dodge 1500's but my last one had transmission problems that they couldn't and wouldn't fix after 7 tries so I took it to AMMCO and they rebuilt the tranny and never had a problem. The problem was the trans cooler line coming back to the trans was to small and dodge knew it but didn't want a recall. After that I switched to ford and love the F150s.
