    This is a good new car buy-a car that isn't that popular, has come down in MRSP, and everyone is buying crossovers/SUVs. A near luxury daily driver, easy to drive, not unnecessarily large. Sure, the underpinnings are "old", but that means they should be reliable.
    You get Honda reliability and Acura service.
    Cars are like stocks-buy low.

    The oil dilution problem with the turbo engine in the CRV has me thinking twice about the longevity of turbo engines. I think Toyota is playing it smart by sticking with NA engines for now--they have a reliability reputation to protect. Given that, I don't see the ILX sticking with an NA engine as a problem.

    • @htwm012
      @htwm012 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly, unfortunately most people dont understand cars when it comes to turbos and N/A engines. They go for "BuT tUrBo SaVe GaS AnD BeTtEr ThEn NoN tUrBo" which can be true but you have to prerequisite turbo cars before you go crazy with them.

  • @jrasero23

    There a couple ways of looking at this car: one it's simply one of the best values for a premium/luxury compact sedan or two this really competes more with other hot hatches or a loaded Civic or Mazda 3. In my opinion, the 2019-2021 Acura ILX is a really great-looking car on the outside beside the single exhaust, but it's when you get into the car you are quickly reminded this is based on the chintzy 9th Gen Honda Civic since the door doesn't feel as solid, a good deal of hard plastic, no trunk dampening, no hood struts, and the ride especially on the A-SPEC is quite firm. Yes Acura has done a fairly good job of dressing up the Civic especially with the A-SPEC model since you get aluminum sport pedals, black headliner, suede insert seats, and the option of red leather but it's hard not to look at a Civic and see hows the ILX is missing rear vents, optional rear heated seats, 60-40 rear folding seats, roomier cabin, and the Civic has a hatchback version and performance variant in the Type R. With this being said the K24 variant engine paired with the 8 Speed DCT is simply wonderful. Hands down the best dual-clutch out there since it has a torque converter but you also get quick shifts that always seem to be in the right gear. The 201 HP is just enough and at 4000 RPM you are getting that sweet singing K24 sound. The car handles well, albeit the A-SPEC version with its low profile tires is a bit harsh and has been clenching when going over potholes. Acura has considerably lowered the price of the ILX and for a "luxury" car where you get luxury experience starting at $26K and longer warranty but still are getting Acura/Honda reliability, low cost of ownership, and higher resale value. While the base model does start at a meager $26K, I would highly suggest getting the Premium model since you will be getting Android Auto Apple CarPlay, leather seats, upgraded auto, blindspot, rear traffic alert, satellite and HD radio, larger screen, and power passenger seat. If you want to elevate the look of your ILX I would highly recommend the A-SPEC version which yes is mainly cosmetic but does give you slightly wider tires and LED fog lights. I would say simply skip the Tech package since it's mainly based around the ELS audio and GPS and the GPS is highly outdated. In May of 2020 we got my wife a new ILX Premium A-SPEC for $26,800. Yes, the ILX will be totally refreshed or even discontinued probably for 2022 but at $26,800 what brand new "luxury" car is even available let alone used or mainstream variant? Barring any major problems or accidents, we plan to have this car for many years since it makes an excellent commuting car for my wife while being "luxury" and reliable

      @@maccam9808 That's the perfect comment on the all you tube car review videos. Because it reflects the true mentality of European car makers perfectly. For consumer to buy their product first they NEED to buy it. Therefore their cars should break down no matter how good they take good care of them within a certain time so that they should go and buy a new car. That's why they have to advertise a "European feel" which people should want even though they have to buy out of factory junk European cars.
      Your car, if it is a European car, is not going to run 15 - 25 years but you will not be an Acura customer anyway, because, you are hooked with the pseudo "European feel" and therefore even if they push you an out of factory junk, like any BMW, or VW, or MB you will buy them repeatedly so many times within that 15 -25 years.

    Great video. We have a 2016 TLX Acura Tech and have enjoyed it. But now we want to down-size a bit and the ILX looks very interesting. Same engine/tranny combo as in the TLX, and that has been a very reliable and surprisingly peppy drivetrain with outstanding fuel economy. On a trip from Oregon to Wisconsin (5,100 miles) we averaged almost 35 mpg and with hard driving especially through Montana. We have not test driven the ILX yet and the only holdback could be headroom. I'm only 5'11" but have a very short legs and a long upper body, so we will see.

You can get far superior, better driving and more modern midsize sedans (Accord, Camry, Mazda 6, etc.) for less money, even a Kia Stinger or fullsize sedans like a Kia Cadenza are about the same price after discounts. I had the 2016 ILX and let me tell you. He's right about everything. I'm only 5'11" and it's still tight in head room and legroom. Talking about legroom, this is a nightmare. No matter how you adjust it, your left leg will never rest easy. The dead pedal is too steep and too thin, there's no room play. So not only do you get uncomfortable seating position, to add icing on the cake, you see that right side for the driver air vent, yes, you can aim however you want but guess what, the steering/turn signal block airflow. You will never get full air blow to your face. Got rid of it and got the 2019 TLX Aspec instead. This car design is just horrible for the interior.

    The K24 engine should be one of the highlights, not a disappointment. It's legendary and bulletproof. If you need more excitement, you can double the horsepower and torque with after market supercharging kits WITHOUT sacrificing reliability.
    Most people who buy this car are not considering European cars. They prefer legendary reliability, and a value that can't be matched by any of the European manufacturers. I will happily forgo the race to the next stoplight or grocery store in lieu of cost savings in visits to the mechanic and insurance agent.
    I LOVE to watch Alex on Autos because he is the BEST on delivering an analysis on new autos. The ONE item he regularly misses is the long term value of owning Japanese cars, specifically Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus that CAN NOT be matched by European or American automakers.

      Worst Owner Satisfaction Score: Acura ILX

      Only 41 percent of Acura ILX owners said they definitely would, all things considered, buy the same car again.
      Sometimes you just can't transcend humble origins. Trying to make a premium model out of the previous generation Honda Civic is a fool's errand, as proved by the Acura ILX. Adding projector headlights and slapping the Acura badge on the car shouldn't deceive anyone. There is nothing wrong with the concept of providing an upscale experience in a small package, but the ILX's hard ride, loud cabin, and lack of some essential features undermine that goal. Charging $30,000 for the ILX amounts to total chutzpah on Honda's part.
