Great that you called out the 1.5 L turbo oil dilution issue in the Civic / Integra (and especially the CRV), that alone makes the ILX the long-term winner in my book esp. if buying used. The K-series engine is bulletproof and will easily do 200k miles with regular maintenance.
the issue is supposedly because of the 10,000 mile oil change intervals but people doing 5,000 mile oil changes aren't having much of an issue with this?
Honda is ditching that engine in the Civic for 2025 (the 180hp version) and replacing it with a hybrid that gets 20hp more (a little less than the Si). I think that's a good decision from Honda.
The ILX looks well proportioned than the new Integra. Also for something from 2019, the ILX aged quite well exterior wise. The black color also makes the car more sinister.
A 2019 car should definitely age decently in only 2023. Styling trends havent changed all that much. An ILX looks like a new car to most people on the road, on the exterior at least
Acura really had something special with this beautiful car. I love my 17 ILX All they had to do was update the interior and possibly give us more horsepower. This is a flawless car otherwise. Acura frustrates me
But the thing is you have a K series. If you want more horsepower you can get it for dirt cheap with bolt ons or go full Rambo and upgrade your cam and lifters.
I have the 2021. It's a nice little car and definitely gets a lot of looks. The interior is very dated but you overlook it due to how well the car is made.
Fun fact: Before the ILX, Acura sold a compact sedan called the CSX which was just an 8th gen Civic with an Acura badge and more features. However they're very rare, it seems they didn't sell so many of them. It would be cool to track one down to review.
As a lover of things simple, this car easily shows how simplicity wins everytime. The K24 engine is known to outlive an apocalypse while the 8spd DCT is known to outlive a plague during the same time, Acura dropped the ball with the CVT & 1.6T engine but, an argument can be made to just get the manual. I never thought id see myself owning one, but after researching these little cars and how reliable they are, it seems more enticing to own one.
I bought a 2022 Acura ILX w/ Aspec Premium & Technology in Platinum White Pearl w/ black leather and microsuede inserts. The red was a bit bright for my taste. I bought this car in March of 2021 and got it for a steal. Dealer MSRP, with only $500 extra for the Platinum White Pearl paint, mudguards, and 20% tint all around was $35,955. I got the car OTD, with tax and destination and dealer fees for $30,700. I love the car, got a great deal, 0.9% for 48 months through Acura Financial Services. I definitely agree that Acura made a mistake dumping a CVT into the new 2023 Integra. They should have carried over the 8-DCT from the ILX and paired it with the 1.5T engine. Plus, the K24 engine in the ILX will outlive that 1.5T. Too small displacement, too much PSi boost=disaster. Same thing with the CR-V 1.5T with even more boost. I was servicing my 22 ILX a month ago down here in Orlando at an Acura dealership and at first they couldn’t get them in, but now all the salesman are saying they can’t get rid of them. You should see how many they have.
I actually like the basic and clean interior a lot more aesthetically pleasing than some of the new cars with that big screen that’s just sitting there
For some people, the 2.4 N/A engine and 8 speed DCT alone makes the ILX better than the Integra. Also, the Integra is the first (and only for now) Acura to use the 1.5 turbo. Others use the 2.0 turbo or a V6 in some form.
Zack, was considering submitting my Acura for review if you'd be interested. I have the RLX, which is the larger, more luxurious version of this car. It's really just a rebadged Honda Legend, which of course they don't sell here. The RLX is relatively rare, Acura didn't sell many of them here.
The two screens makes sense if you have Sirius XM. If you do, you'll love the two screens setup. Sirius/XM on the bottom and Android Auto / Apple Carplay on the top. It's works perfectly in that situation.
Good point! Apple/android auto will be connected up top screen for maps, etc. using cable. Passenger can connect to lower screen via Bluetooth to control the jams even without Sirius XM. Me and the wifey do that daily. People bitch and moan about the 2 screen layout but will miss it in a few years like I miss the 3.7L SH-AWD TL and the wagon TSX.
@@jonathantaone7363 I've never used it like that. Supposse I could give kids control of the radio via Bluetooth with one of their phones, and still have my phone running the top screen. That's kind of brilliant if it works.
I almost bought a 2015 ILX with the manual but it sold before I could get too it. It only had 60k miles and was in very good condition but the dealer was asking 16k and this was back in 2021
The tires need to be inflated a bit. They appear to be a little low when you were going through the screen located between the tachometer and speedometer.
Love that old school atmosphere. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I bet it’ll outlast the new Integra. You my young friend sound like a spoiled techno head.
Hahaha, I had to laugh. Yes I agree that everyone talks about tech way too much, heck any tech almost gets "outdated" in a few years anyways. I just bought a 2019 ILX Aspec and something I was excited about was it still has a CD player. I bought the car for the engine and transmission, could care less how the tech is. But going from a 20 year old 2004 civic to a 2019 ILX with only 18K miles is quite the luxurious change for me lol.
Back in Jan 2022 I bought 22 ILX Aspec could of bought integra but decided to get ILX because of 2.4L engine, which is about mid size sedan now days, for civic it was bargain. Drove 20K miles so far nothing but an oil change.😅
Just bought a mint 19k mile '22 ILX A-spec, from a dealer, for $25k. Has a 4 year/100k mile bumper-to-bumper warranty (2 more years of the factory plus 2 more years up to 100k CPO warranty). Love the looks, it's fun to drive, decently quick when you need it and gets great gas mileage... What else can you buy that has all that at that price plus that warranty?
Man the 07-08 TL Type S was way ahead of it's time. This is from 2019 and it still directly rips off that Type S's style even though this is just a A-spec trim level of the ilx. Everything from the gauge cluster to the steering wheel to the heated seat controls scream 07-08 TL Type S
Yes! I had an 07 TL-S and and now have a ‘22 ILX. It reminds me so much of that car but the 07-08 TL-S is top 5 Acuras ever made IMO. I should of never traded in the 07 TL-S I’d be driving it to this day. J35 was a great engine.
I know it might seem weird but I kind of like the dual screen setup on these. I like it better than the interior of the new integra since it’s just a slightly altered civic interior.
After their misstep with the beak Acura got it's styling together, maybe too much. This is almost indistinguishable from the new Integra and the rest of Acura's sedans. The inside looks like an Infiniti though. It's a warmed over Civic because Honda knew a replacement was on the way.
It’s funny you brought up the “beak” “shield” grills of the late 00’s early 10’s. I remember people hated those cars but I think they aged well. Plus the TL came with a 3.7L V6 SH-AWD and the TSX came in a wagon. Very rare and nice to see nowadays!
I’ve owned both in the last year. I traded the Ilx for the integra. The ilx might have had the worst suspension ever. Driving over 60 mph would make the car shake. New integra might not have that engine but the structure of the car is much better. I enjoy my integra much more. It also gets close to 40 mpg on the highway.
Never experienced that car shaking issue at those speeds, and I consistently go over 60 on the highways. 85mph +, yes, I feel it. Definitely not just over 60.
I test drove an ILX the other day and I really wanted to like it but yes it's ride left a lot to be desired. My old 02 RSX rides better and that's on old tired suspension. Minus the interior the handling and ride quality it felt worse that an LX civic. Steering was numb as well
