VP wanted to gives the message that they all have their own room back at home. Their studio, where they in privacy can explore their music, try out sounds, be creative. Thus Layne furnished this studio with things that are meaningful to them. You noticed the plaquet. There was his violin, notes from Hamilton on the piano and many more things representing them all.

Which is so heartwarming! I loved the set design.

It’s amazing to me that although much of this was very staccato, the end result felt like a warm hug.
In addition to their arrangements, their attention to the look of the video helps make them distinctive. This was filmed in Rayne’s Room Recording Studio. Owned by Layne, they have filmed many videos here including ACA Top 10s and Chandelier.
When Layne dressed the set he included items for each VoicePlay member, Deejay, his daughters, his grandmother, and his wife’s family. Items he added for himself included his violin, his hoverboard and a book of his favorite Disney movie.

He really does! It's really something when a beatboxer/vocal percussionist can also sing too!

Great reaction! They filmed this back in November when they had DeeJay for their Christmas song. They filmed the video at Laynes house. He decorated the rom with things that he felt represented VoicePlay, such as the play button, the home recording set up, etc. Eli did the lighting for this one too. Prior to filming, Layne hung black out cloth all around the outside of the room so that they had complete control of the lighting. The video turned out so beautiful and the song fit the setting so well. 😊

I figured they had shot the music video last year considering DeeJay was in it. Yeah, the set decoration was very well thought out and the arrangement sounded beautiful as always.

You replayed more parts than I've ever seen you replay, and I love it. There is so much beautiful going on here. Thank you!

😁 The music video was too good not to go back and listen to everything multiple times. I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction 😊

This isn't flashy, but it makes up for it in the technical aspects. Those harmonies! In the BTS they had "bass lessons" and Eli and Cesar could have sung Geoff's part in this as low as they got, and Layne hit amazingly high in the "tenor lessons". Add in DJ as the Run King and OMG this was good!

I am pretty old, and I remember playing this by The Beach Boys on my transistor radio. I was about 13 and I played it while I pouted in my room because my parents were picking on me. 😂
My two favorite musical styles of that time were the surfer dudes and Motown and they somehow managed to incorporate a little bit of Motown with DeeJay’s amazing voice.
I wasn’t sure if I would like it because I played the original so many times as a kid, but as usual they changed it up just enough. It doesn’t compete with the original. It just gives it a new fresh take and I love them both.

Amazing reaction, Jeff! I’m glad you got to this. I think Layne and Geoff just keep trying to outdo each other with the arrangements-Geoff turned in a brilliant one with Nothing Else Matters, so Layne had to knock it out of the park as well.
The note you wondered about, I think (correct me if wrong) is a D3 by Layne. It’s dissonant but a sweet touch right there. Just makes that chord brighter somehow. And those sneaky little solos by Layne also helped make it for me.
Deejay can be counted on to 1) take a song to a new level with those amazing, clean riffs, and 2) smash that 4th wall and flirt like crazy with the camera. Cesar does it a little as well, but he doesn’t take it too far-the rest of the guys might look straight at the camera for emphasis at times but they keep it pretty low key so Cesar really can’t change that up too much without OVERdoing it for this group.
I was just as gobsmacked as you were first time through-SO much good stuff to process. Love this piece, and loved your reaction!!

Really nice arrangement of the song! They are definitely quite talented, ❤️ Awesome! Tim Foust did this too, a cappella on his new album Pieces of Me! You should watch that one too! ❤

The crescendo at that first "lie awake and pray" sounds for all the world like a full choir. I'm still not quite sure I love the arrangement for this one, it's so staccato compared to the smooth-flowing Beach Boys original, but their vocals are impeccable. Thanks for sharing your impressions!

This song is like VoicePlay is giving us a warm hug and I love it! Do you have any interest in barbershop? The Ringmasters' Notre Dame (Hunchback) medley is so lacking in reactions and analysis. The Barbershop Harmony Society has a very nicely remastered video of it on TH-cam.
