Geoff replicated the bass guitar in Carry On Wayward Son beautifully.

Geoff's creamy smooth bass goes from the subbasement to the Attic. This is Geoff's arrangement Hello VIOLAYNE. Layne is the beatboxer hence VIOLAYNE. is the cherry on top of the Sunday.
"Far over the Misty Mountains cold" is performed by Geoff Castellucci alone... All 4 characters in the video are him, digitally "cloned" and singing ALL the parts. 🙂

PS: other songs you could check from Voiceplay's catalogue? Well, "Dream on" (Aerosmith), for example. Or their latest release, "In my room" (Beach Boys). "The Dragonborn comes - Skyrim" (from the videogame Skyrim... Elder Scroll V, if I remember correctly). "I can't make you love me". Or pretty much any other. 🙂
I've listened to Misty Mountain from Geoff many times. And the video is awesome!
@@CappVlogs Hi, I am new to your channel. Thank you for a great reaction to Voice Play. Would you please do a reaction video of Voice Plays cover " Dream On " by Aerosmith ? Also Voice Plays cover of " Carry On Wayward Son " by Kansas ? Voice Play knocks them out of the ball park. I We Voice Play fans would greatly appreciate it.
The end of the song was originally a guitar that the thought need to be an instrument instead of a voice so Geoff, the bass and arranger of this, wrote that part for a violin instead. Layne has spent many years learning the violin so you see him every now and then with it. That part of the video shocks a lot of people. But it is not unusual for A cappella groups to have an instrument where it makes sense so in the end it pays respect to the original artist.
These vocals are insane. Very moving. I’ve sung in a woman’s a cappella group, but this blows me away.
Great reaction! It's always a thrill to watch someone experience this for the first time. This cover IMO is probably peak VoicePlay so far, but they've got so many other glorious works that would be well worth your time to check out. Dream On, Carry On Wayward Son, Hoist the Colours, We Don't Talk About Bruno, Enemy, In The Hall of the Mountain King, The Dragonborn Comes, Friends on the Other Side, the Moana Medley, In My Room, you really can't go wrong.

This cover has shaken both the acapella world, as well as the Metal. It's a wonderful masterpiece.
Loved your reaction, thanks! Love this one, and love the rare occasions we get to hear Layne pull out his violin. I think you'd really enjoy Dream On, too; and maybe their medley, Queen in 5 minutes. There's a lot to choose from, and every one of them is top notch. This one was arranged by Geoff, who also made the creative decisions on the video. Layne (beatbox) edited the video. Typically, Geoff and Layne switch off on arranging, and whoever does the arrangement also does the video. But they switch it up when deadlines are pressing. J None, who took the second vocal, is a former member of VP who left to join/sing for the navy in early 2021. When possible, he films with them as a featured singer when he's on leave (as he did here).
Glad you liked the inclusion of the violin. I've seen some comments on other channels and even a few reactors say,"Oh well this isn't truly A Capella because they did use an instrument," which I will give them a bit of point on that but my point is how many times do hear a Metallica song and think, "What this song needs is a violin solo." Great reaction. Loved it

@@CappVlogs Happy to hear it and to be fair most reactors, fans of Voiceplay and Metallica alike think this is a masterpiece. I certainly do and for me it's a real treat to see a true fan of Metallica, like yourself, really enjoy Voiceplay's cover.
Voice Play opened the door to add the violin just in the right place.
@@marshayoung9387 many acappella groups have used occasional instruments in their works for years, and many guest artists play instruments. They just do not make a habit of it.
@@barbarakennedy2667 Voice Play doesn't make a habit of it either. I don't understand why Voice Play are getting a lot of remarks saying it's not a capella when Layne used the violin but nothing was said about others using an instrument.
In You're my Best Friend they mimicked a guitar solo with voice modifying megaphones. They are nothing but creative these guys. Subbed to see more of vp
This is my favorite of VoicePlay's songs/videos and I have gotten through 800 of them. I had never listened to Metallica (thought that it was a synonym for loud noise, forgive me please). VoicePlay dropped this in January right around my birthday and I said, "Well, that's my group, guess I'll listen to it." I was astounded, went and found Metallica's version, amazed at how true VoicePlay's was to the truth of the song. This is gorgeous. I enjoyed your sing-along, obviously a true fan. I've probably listened to it over a hundred times since it came out and don't regret a single moment. You sir, have a new subscriber. DT A below has a list of some of my favorites but I'll a few more: Warriors will give you a chance to hear more than a few seconds of Layne on a violin, the Halo Theme, Tennessee Whiskey, Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Running Up that Hill. We VoicePlayers will be there if you will follow up on VoicePlay's music - kind of rabid that way.

"there is no way to miminc a guitar solo", but this is what voiceplay did in the intro..... And there are other acapella groups who did this quite successfully. Rephrasing it to "it is difficult "would be more percise. But over all a very good reaction, thanks for that. And I agree with the opinion about the original and this version!

This one does have the addition of a violin for a few bars , as does their Warriros, but otherwise they are totally a capella. And yes, that's Geoff. :) So glad you liked it.
In the Air Tonight (Phil Collins), Creep (RadioHead), Dragonborn Comes Skyrim, The Way You Make Me Feel (Michael Jackson), Classical Chaos, (their post-apocalyptic trilogy follows) - 1) Warriors (Imagine Dragons), 2) Dream On (Aerosmith), and 3)-- Seven Nation Army (White Stripes), Black Hole Sun (Soundgarden), Valhalla Calling (MIracle of Sound), I Can't Make You Love Me (Bonnie Raitt), Hellfire (Hunchback of Notre Dame), Be Prepared (just dropped - Lion King). Some of Geoff's solos: Unshaken, I See Fire, Song of Durin, Monster Mash, Jack's Lament, Imagine, Ain't No Sunshine.
I would love to one day hear VoicePlay and Pentatonix perform together.
Pentatonix won't go for that. Voice Play already reached out to them about a collaboration.

Great reaction! I love seeing reactions from hard core Metallica fans. As far as suggestions, honestly, throw a dart and find a great cover. DT A listed some really good ones. I'd add Halo, If I Were a Rich Man/Girl, Warriors, Queen in 5 Mins and Boy Bands in 5 Mins and Running Up That Hill.

Big fan of Voiceplay, Huge fan of Jeff, Massive fan of Metallica .... and obviously a fan of Capp00. What more could a girl need? On a serious note though, I love most of their work but have soft spots for My mother told me, Hoist The Colours and The Dragonborne Comes from Skyrim. As a result of finding Jeff, I found Voiceplay and then from spam listening to their version of Hoist the Colours, found another couple of artists by the name of Peyton Parrish and Miracle of Sound. If you haven't already , I'd recommend them both, specifically Battle Cries from PP and Valhalla Calling by MoS.
VoicePlay just dropped their cover of Valhalla Calling a week or so ago.
Geoff Castellucci has a 5 octave range...I'm always amazed when I hear him.

@@CappVlogs He's hit another B0 in the upcoming release of Valhalla Calling from Voice Play...I think he may be starting on a 6th octave. At least it certainly sounds like it.

"you can't do an electric guitar in a cappella"- actually, the german band "van canto" does. It's a capella heavy metal (well actually they use a real drumset instead of a beatboxer) but the rest is only voices. Take a shot at their cover from manowars "Kings of metal"

Another fun one is Marwan Ayman’s Moment of Silence. Both Marwan and his guest singer Casper Fox, have their “guitar solo” moments. That song is killer no matter what!

Of course, there's always Earl's "guitar solo" in VoicePlay's "Queen In 5 Minutes" if you really want to be amazed...
They made the guitar sound by using a megaphone. Now the bass guy use a cello in some of their songs.
@@marshayoung9387 the megaphone is used only in the video, live, Mitch does the guitar solo whitout it. And Kevin, the beatboxer, is the one who plays the cello in some of their songs, not the bass.
Ask Mitch of Pentatonix how hard it is to replicate a guitar solo, because he did (to varying extents) in their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody
It also helps when you have a good soundman during production to help improve the sound on stage. All groups have a good soundman working behind the scenes.
