Rattie Damian Star Wars Rogue Squadron 2 has more polygons and much effects than anything on PS2, but i'm still shocked with the PS2 graphics pushed to the limits (PS2 was very hard to program, and games like this showed the strengts of the system, specially considering that PS2 only was a little bit more powerful than the Dreamcast).
Just need a release for the ps5 as well, and the next generations of console too, but better spend that time with a sequel or trilogies, or as many games they want to produce/make
They will probably either sell an update for the PS4-version or just update it for a higher resolution and, if the developers agree, also upgrade some visuals here and there like a "4K/8K texture pack" or something. There will probably be some kind of 8K marketing-b.s. anyway. But it won't be like another big release, I don't think.

The newest version looks awesome but what i'm the most impressed with is the insane quality of the original animations! There is barely any difference between those and the new ones, just look at aggro running :o Seeing it compared like this really does make you realise how amazing this game was for its time
Shaetane Japan Studio is providing Bluepoint Games with new technologies. There are more titles in the development that are using new technologies. We might see all three revealed next year. From Software title that was shown at TGA is one of them.
For me the PS3 remastered version is just a port of the PS2 version of SoTC, nothing really changes, and for Playstation 3, the game should have been totally different, just like the PS4 version.

For its hardware, the original was absolute bonkers... I plugged in my PS2 after E3 and oh my, that sense of scale hasn't reduced a bit... Ironically, Colossus 14 (one of the smallest) is my favorite as it resembles my playful cat... Team ICO is nothing but a bunch of underrated geniuses :)
There is something about the grainy texture and fuzzy landscapes of the Ico and SotC originals that give them a fairytale appearance. They force you to compensate for the lack of detail with your imagination, which is the best GPU ever. This modern remake is technically impressive, yes, but it feels devoid of spirit in some way. Watching the new footage is like stepping through a part of a garden that you only examined from afar as a kid. Where you might have fantasized about fairies dancing on the sunlit leaves and gnomes walking around beneath them, you now see that it's only a bunch of sticks on the ground and that you've also stepped in mud. I may be biased, but I have this same impression whenever I see HD remakes.
however "poor" the graphics are on the PS2 relative to current gen, it did deliver spades on the atmosphere and sense of scale, even though I played it during the PS3 era, it never felt inferior. So yes, it was indeed very ahead of its time.
I think it's a testament to the art direction. Honestly, for all the rendering bells and whistles on the ps4 it's just as impressive as the original. And they mitigated that horrendous framerate with a not awful motion blur (for the day)
Nah, it looked excellent for its time, but the remake sure improves on a lot of things. Also, the original would often run at 15-25 fps during boss fights, so I'm looking forward to this.
Love these kind of videos. You can really see how games got evolved so much in terms of graphics and performance. Didn't play the original but I always wanted to and now seeing this being rebuilt from the ground up for PS4 is the perfect opportunity for me to finally play this beautiful game. Box art looks epic though.

His mind would wander, and he would lose track of what he was doing. I think the saddest this about the game is that wander didn't realized what he was doing he had one goal in mind to save mono, he didn't realized he was killing an innocents beings, only for the sake of love. Mono- the "kissing disease", Fumito Ueda said himself he wanted the game to be like the beauty and beast so I guess It's kinda related, mono also can mean alone and mono is alone(lying alone)...she also was alone in the ending of the game (away from others in the forbidden lands). Agro- Hostile, angry,Aggravation, trouble, hostile for no reason, which she kinda is ... she sometimes doesn't listen and makes things worse...and you can almost die because of her ;) Emon- means starred-be prominent(leading, important, or well-known) which Emon is, the lord of the tribe Dormin- dormiō, which means sleep(Latin), The Sleepless, Without Sleep, A Sleeping Memory Dormin is "Nimrod" backwards possibly refer to the Biblical king Nimrod who was said to be the originator of false worship. Also, Nimrod was to be credited with the creation of the Tower of Babel, a tower which led mortals into forbidden territory, the territory of God. King Nimrod's death resulted in his body being cut into multiple pieces and dispersed, similar to parts of Dormin's soul being held within the colossi. Dormin can also mean death.

I'm 13 and I had a PS2 but I only ever played some of the games, crash bandicoot and things like that. And I was only 4 so I sucked at every game I played. So I am excited to buy this game and so I can properly experience it. I bought the crash bandicoot remake and also uncharted the nathan drake collection and darksiders which was also remastered, My games library if filled with these remakes and remasters XD

I gotta be honest, as beautiful as the PS4 remake looks, I prefer the PS2. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I think that the murkiness and fogginess really adds an aura of mystique to the game.
I remember reviews of Shadow of the Colossus saying that the game was almost too ambitious for the PS2 hardware. With PS4 I think the hardware has finally caught up. This is SOTC as it was meant to look.

I will happily buy this on every PS system in the future. Can't wait for the PS10 where we wear a helmet which transports our minds into the game where we can see, touch, smell, hear, and taste everything as if we were actually there. 0:45 Am I the only one who likes the Ps2 version the most? It's just something about that hazy bluryness that kinda adds to the mystique of the atmosphere. Either way I'm glad they remade this game. SotC is easily one of the best games ever made. That ending with the colossus falling is just as heartbreaking as it was in the original. I remember I hated killing the collosi because I felt like they were gentle giants minding their own business :( EDIT: I'd also like to add that I'm a little bummed out about the fact that they made some artistic changes for the worse. I feel like a bit of atmosphere has been lost to "improve the graphics".
i think i get what you mean, like alot of ps1 and ps2 games have almost "abstract" graphics which leaves alot of it to your imagination and adds this really strange unknown almost creepy atmosphere.
Well there is something about the over saturation, bloom effects, motion blur, that made the forbidden lands have a dreamlike quality. Along with some of the taller colossi from a distance having an obscured by clouds effect, that made them seem even more gigantic. Until the definition sharpened, up close and personal. Although some of that may be lost in translation, cannot stop myself from getting this.
That graphics look amazing now, but one thing I’ll miss is that hazy look the original had. (i.e. :45) I remember thinking at the time how it made me feel like I was in a legend. It didn’t feel or look quite vivid enough to be expressly real. It felt like pure fantasy; like a story being told, and the visuals matched that. Now the visuals look even better...I just hope it still feels like a dream about slaying giants...
It's good to see it's being introduced for 39.99 instead of 59.99 since many of us already have two versions already. The PS2, the PS3 with the 3D, and here's the most visually detailed PS4 version. It's a classic game so it deserves to be kept alive, though I wouldn't mind a direct sequel with all new giants and a new landscape to explore.

BluePoint clearly puts a lot of hard work into their remakes, but I can't help but feel the PS2 and/or PS3 versions look better. There is a vey welcome haze and almost oppressive lighting that lends a real sense of mystery and vastness to the environment. In the PS4 version it just looks like a pretty backdrop a lot of the time. There is something to be said for keeping the "realism" out of certain games.
Brings back elementary school memories rushing to get home to play that and the new Matrix game that come out around the same time plus vice city tekken 4 💯
Elvick This is a remaster. Its intentionally kept exactly the same. Therefore its a remaster. If it has major differences or is an actually different game, its a remake. Remaster is updating graphics. Remake is making the same game again with more modern design mentality but the same original idea and sometimes plot. Final Fantasy VII Remake for example, is an actual remake. A completely different game with the same ideas and story.

The terms came from movies, ignore their entymology since its refering to movies, not games. Remaster means updated bitrate, resolution, added colour, 3D and/or remade CGI. AKA, better graphics, even if a massive improvement. Remake means a completely different movie with the samw ideas and plot. The meanings have not changed between mediums.

Those PS2 graphics are no doubt irreplaceable to those who loved the original. But undoubtedly this is a welcome remake as well.

BluePoint seem to be able remake games to way we remember them. The PS4 looks perfect and I cannot wait to revisit this world.

awesomekilla112 What do you mean slightly. It pushed the PS2 very far in its hardware. It even did 480p (The PS2 hardware itself wasn't intended at all for heavy 480p graphical uses use due to its internal clock more friendly aimed at 240p and 480i.)

I gotta be honest, as beautiful as the PS4 remake looks, I prefer the PS2. Maybe it’s nostalgia, but I think that the murkiness and fogginess really adds an aura of mystique to the game.
I remember reviews of Shadow of the Colossus saying that the game was almost too ambitious for the PS2 hardware. With PS4 I think the hardware has finally caught up. This is SOTC as it was meant to look.
Nah. SOTC didn't need flowing fields of grass or more polygons or less fog. The PS3 version is still the best.

I kind of wish they would bundle the PS2 version with the remake. The remake is impressive, and will probably be the way most people play the story from here on out, but it would be nice to have the original for historical purpose.

Can't wait for the PS10 where we wear a helmet which transports our minds into the game where we can see, touch, smell, hear, and taste everything as if we were actually there. The taste and feel of all that blood spraying into your face will be barbaricaly magnificent.

0:45 Am I the only one who likes the Ps2 version the most? It's just something about that hazy bluryness that kinda adds to the mystique of the atmosphere.
Either way I'm glad they remade this game. SotC is easily one of the best games ever made. That ending with the colossus falling is just as heartbreaking as it was in the original. I remember I hated killing the collosi because I felt like they were gentle giants minding their own business :(
EDIT: I'd also like to add that I'm a little bummed out about the fact that they made some artistic changes for the worse. I feel like a bit of atmosphere has been lost to "improve the graphics".

i think i get what you mean, like alot of ps1 and ps2 games have almost "abstract" graphics which leaves alot of it to your imagination and adds this really strange unknown almost creepy atmosphere.
Well there is something about the over saturation, bloom effects, motion blur, that made the forbidden lands have a dreamlike quality.
Along with some of the taller colossi from a distance having an obscured by clouds effect, that made them seem even more gigantic.
Until the definition sharpened, up close and personal. Although some of that may be lost in translation, cannot stop myself from getting this.

That graphics look amazing now, but one thing I’ll miss is that hazy look the original had. (i.e. :45) I remember thinking at the time how it made me feel like I was in a legend. It didn’t feel or look quite vivid enough to be expressly real. It felt like pure fantasy; like a story being told, and the visuals matched that. Now the visuals look even better...I just hope it still feels like a dream about slaying giants...

It's good to see it's being introduced for 39.99 instead of 59.99 since many of us already have two versions already. The PS2, the PS3 with the 3D, and here's the most visually detailed PS4 version. It's a classic game so it deserves to be kept alive, though I wouldn't mind a direct sequel with all new giants and a new landscape to explore.

BluePoint clearly puts a lot of hard work into their remakes, but I can't help but feel the PS2 and/or PS3 versions look better. There is a vey welcome haze and almost oppressive lighting that lends a real sense of mystery and vastness to the environment. In the PS4 version it just looks like a pretty backdrop a lot of the time. There is something to be said for keeping the "realism" out of certain games.
