The game just push the PS2 to its very limits. The game's creator could've make it as PS3's launch title and exclusive to show off the console's technical prowess. Also I like how faithful the remake is and Bluepoint made it closest to the original, something that other devs should take note of. IMO remakes should be just visual changes, built on new and capable engine and adding what was planned but dropped in the original due to technological limitations even improved gameplay mechanics with little to no changes in the content and story.

The PS2 version has that melancholy, ancient vibe, sad mood to it but the resolution is too old for nowadays TV. PS3 version was perfect I think, its like an upgraded version of it. While PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5 version was amazingly good in 2020s I believe, but in my opinion, it lacks the mood and vibes of the original especially to the colours. Its like watching Lord of the Rings but with Marvel movies colour styles, it still look amazing and mind-blowing-good but the vibe feels a bit less accurate. I don't know how to explain it right lol but yeah, mad respect to the team behind all this version. Love them so much.
the og has a more grey brown hue while the remake is more green and blue. The more detail section shows that off with the colors. The bloom was also really blinding in OG. Look at 4:30 to 5:00 minutes shows it well which i think adds to its character. Reminds me of Nier or Demon Souls, which also lost that blinding light when Bluepoint remade it.

those aren't PS3 graphics, it is the ps2 grapchis with upgraded resolution and frame rate, that's why it feels so hard when you go to PS4, those are Remakes, not remasters like PS3
I finally managed to play shadow of colossus on the ps5 a few months ago, but the entire time i was playing it I felt i shouldn't be seeing everything is such crisp detail. See the controls for Agro the horse are the exact same horse controls in Horsez ranch rescue, a classic ps2 game i'm sure many of you have played. So the controls for me didn't match the level of HD detail i was seeing. That said I think I'd pick the ps3 version if I had to play again.
I noticed the PS5 version is brighter than the PS4 versions. It could be that it’s automatically applying HDR to the game. You could see if this resolves by toggling that setting!

I like the atmosphere and ambient that present in the Original, it has it's own kind of charm that was totally ignored in the remake, still, gameplaywise it's the prefect remake.
I swear the ps2 is such a mixed bag for me who was born in the ps3 era, i played sh2 and i thought that was the average ps2 game where i gotta deep scan my screen to see anything more than 10 metres from james face, and then i played dbz bt3 and thought thats pretty good for 2007, and then i see this, i thought this was a ps4 title since i hadnt heard of it and now i questioning how this is even possible, you can see further in that than you can in the latest versions of minecraft

In the original they were gray and misty and very eerie looking. Like it was a lifeless forest. In the Remake, the forests are very green and lifelike. Definitely beautiful, but it just looks like a normal forest, and not the same lifeless eerie vibe that the original presented.

I agree, if you're going to brighten the lights up, and remove some of the artistic detail. At least add some epic weather effects.

HDR only matters if the Ps5 plays over 60fps on a 120hz TV.
